From The Batman, Bridgerton season two, Moon Knight, and more, March 2022 is shaping up to be an exciting month for new movies and series.

It’s March, which means that we’re almost 25% done with 2022, believe it or not. The new month also means a new cascade of new movies and shows sure to provide hours of entertainment. Now, some of the biggest and most anticipated titles are finally releasing, which makes for an even more exciting month. As you plan out your next few weeks, here are just some of the new offerings that you shouldn’t miss.
THE BATMAN
The time has finally come. One of the most anticipated movies of the year swings into action as The Batman is now out. This new iteration of the caped crusader sees Robert Pattinson take on the mantle and follows Batman during year two of his activities. The main villain in the film is the Riddler (Paul Dano), whose crimes is causing Batman to rethink is family history. Along the way, Bruce will come across familiar faces like Catwoman, this time played by Zoe Kravitz. The Batman lands in cinemas on March 2 and reviews have called the movie one of the year’s best.
PIECES OF HER
Toni Collette in a thriller? Yes, please. If you’ve seen Hereditary, then you know Toni Collette can deliver the tension and emotion. And her new show, Pieces of Her, looks to do just that. The series follows a young woman who, after an attack on her small town, begins to realize that her mother is hiding some dark secrets. We love a good mystery and we hope Pieces Of Her will give just that. The series is available to stream on Netflix starting March 4.
DIABOLICAL
The Boys season three is still a few months away. So, to tide us over, Amazon is giving us Diabolical, an animated series set in the universe of The Boys. The show is an anthology with each episode being separate from one another and dealing with their own scenarios. From what we’ve seen though, Diabolical promises to deliver on The Boys’ signature twisted humor and extreme violence. And now that it’s in animated form, were curious to see how far they can go. TURNING RED
After giving us Luca in 2021, Pixar is back with their first offering for 2022. Turning Red follows 13-year-old Mei Lee who, like any teenager, deals with the balance of social life and life at home. One day, she discovers that whenever she gets too excited, she literally transforms into a giant red panda, which turns out actually runs in the family. Aside from the humor the situation naturally brings, Turning Red looks to also impart Pixar’s signature storytelling about the importance of family and culture, especially through the lenses of Asian Americans. Fun fact, Domee Shi is directing the movie, which makes this Pixar’s first movie to be directed by a woman of color. She also directed the extremely wholesome Pixar short Bao. Turning Red hits Philippine cinemas on March 10. On March 11, it will be arriving on Disney+.
THE ADAM PROJECT
If you loved Free Guy, then we suggest you keep an eye out for this project as it reunites director Shawn Levy with Ryan Reynolds. In The Adam Project, a time-traveling pilot (Reynolds) teams up with his younger self (Walker Scobell) and his late father (Mark Ruffalo) to come to terms with his past while saving the future. If the time travel aspect of the movie isn’t enough for you, then note that this film also serves as the reunion of Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner since 13 Going On 30. The two play a couple here. You can stream The Adam Project on Netflix on March 11.
AMBULANCE
In the mood for some action this March? Then maybe you should check out Ambulance. In the movie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jake Gyllenhall play adopted brothers who team up for a history-making bank heist in LA. But when things go south, the two hijack an ambulance along with hostages on board and try to escape a city-wide manhunt all while making it out with the money. Ambulance is directed by Michael Bay and while his movies are either hit or miss, he knows how to deliver on the action, stuns, and set pieces which are always fun to watch. Catch Ambulance in Philippine cinemas on March 16.
WINDFALL
Jason Segel trades in his comedic chops for this unique take on a heist. In the movie, Segel plays a robber who breaks into a tech billionaires empty vacation home. But things don’t go as planned when the billionaire (Jesse Plemons) and his wife (Lily Colins) suddenly arrive for a last-minute vacation. What happens next looks to be an interesting story of two parties trying to outsmart the other. Stream Windfall on Netflix starting March 18.
X
A24 is back with their latest horror movie and this one looks to be both steamy and bloody. From writer/director Ti West comes X, a movie about a group of young people in 1979 who travel to rural Texas to shoot an adult film. The problem though is that they didn’t tell their reclusive hosts what their true intentions are. So when they get caught in the act, the cast and crew must now fight for their lives. Add to the movie’s interesting plot is the fact that it features a cast that includes Jenna Ortega, Mia Goth, and Kid Cudi (yes, Kid Cudi). X slashes its way onto cinemas on March 18.
UMMA
Sandra Oh has had a storied carrier but she’s about to take on what looks to be one of her most memorable roles in Umma. Written and directed by Iris K. Shrim, Umma, which is the Korean word for mother, follows Amanda (Oh) and her daughter living in an American farm. But one day, the ashes of Amanda’s estranged mother arrive on the farm, she soon becomes haunted by the ghost of her mother. This movie looks to be an intense ride and we can’t wait to see it. Umma hits cinemas on March 18.
THE SENIORS
Moving to a new school is never easy, especially if you go from the city to the province. This is central theme The Seniors. Starring Julia Barretto, Ella Cruz, Awra Briguela, and Andrea Babierra, it follows a group of high school students in Pacaque rural high school. One day, a new student from the city (Barretto) transfers to the school which doesn’t sit well with a group of students (Cruz, Briguela, and Babierra). What follows next is a story of high school drama, as well as the complicatedness of teenage life. You can watch this on Viva Max starting March 20
SOUNDTRACK #1
Han So-hee and Park Hyung-sik join forces for the first time in this limited-series romance about love, friendship, and music. Park plays the confident and attractive young photographer Han Sun-woo, while Han is Seo Eun-soo, an outgoing and candid lyricist who gets straight to the point when it comes to how she feels. The two have been friends for two decades, but after sharing the same roof for just two weeks, they learn that the boundaries between love and friendship begin to blur. Their developing bond begins to inspire the lyrics of Eun-soo’s compositions. You can stream this K-Drama on Disney+ beginning March 23.
HALO
For many Halo fans, this series has been a long time coming. Announced over nine years ago, the Halo TV series is finally set to air this March. The show is not connected to the main Halo timeline in the games so prepare to see some changes here and there. But regardless of where the story goes, we’re just hopeful that the Halo series can finally be a worthy adaptation of the video game franchise. And we’re also hoping that the show is just a great sci-fi series in general. Halo premieres on Paramount Plus on March 24.
PACHINKO
Apple has recently been dabbling into Korean-focused content. And their latest series may just be their grandest yet. An adaptation of Min Jin Lee’s best selling novel, Pachinko follows a Korean immigrant family who leave their homeland in search for better opportunities. The series features a stacked cast that include Lee Minho and Oscar winner Youn Yuhjung (Minari). Expect Pachinko to be a sweeping epic as it follows the lives of over four generations of Korean immigrants. The show lands on Apple TV+ this March 25.
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE
The multiverse has been a hot topic as of late thanks to properties like the MCU. But in this movie, it takes the concept of the multiverse to a whole other level. From the Daniels, directors of the eccentric Swiss Army Man, comes this insane tale of a Chinese immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) who goes from trying to pay her taxes to traveling across universes to save the world. If you’ve seen the trailer, then you know this movie is going to be a wild ride featuring hotdogs for fingers and Michelle Yeoh getting into fight scenes with Jamie Lee Curtis. The film arrives in cinemas on March 25.
MORBIUS
While there won’t be any MCU movies released this March, there will be one based on a Marvel property. Morbius stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, a biochemist who tries to find a cure for his blood disease. But the cure he finds inadvertently gives him a form of vampirism. Aside from the novelty of having a new Marvel character to follow, Morbius also intrigues us because of its possible ties to the MCU as a whole. It’s set in the same universe as the Venom movies but we all know that universes can be crossed now. It will be interesting to see how this movie goes. Fun fact, two Pinoy fans won the movie’s global contest for fan art, which Jared Leto himself picking the winners. You can watch Morbius in Philippine cinemas starting March 30.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2
The sequel to 2020 hit movie, Sonic 2 continues to the story of the blue hedgehog as he faces off once more with Dr. Robotnik, this time with his signature bald head. But this time, Sonic will also have to face against one of his own as Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) enters the fray. Luckily, Sonic has allies by his side including Tom and the introduction of Tails. If the first movie is anything to go buy, then we have hope that Sonic 2 is going to be just as good, if not better. You can catch this in Philippine movie screens on March 30. Yup, that’s right, we’re getting Sonic the Hedgehog 2 a full week ahead of it’s US release in April.
MOON KNIGHT
The first MCU related project to technically be released this year, Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, a former US marine whose dissociative identity disorder manifests as different distinct personas. He is soon granted powers by an Egyptian god that brings with it both positives and negatives. The show looks to be dealing with Marc’s struggle to control his personalities as he eventually embodies the titular Moon Knight. But what has us even more excited is how Moon Knight is expected to be the MCU’s most intense project to date as it combines darker and more extreme elements into the MCU. May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke co-star alongside Oscar Isaac. It will be out on Disney+ on March 30.
NEW SEASONS
While not technically new, these shows are premiering new season this March that you should take note of. Star Trek: Piccard Season 2 (March 3), Outlander Season 6 (March 6), Formula 1: Drive To Survive Season 4 (March 11), Atlanta Season 3 (March 24), Bridgerton Season 2 (March 25).
