While there are friendships that come and go, some stay with you and become a significant part of your life. That’s the case for Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes. After first working together in the mid-2000s in Goin’ Bulilit, Kath and Julia have gone on to form a friendship that has flourished as much as their careers have. Whether it be on-screen or off, the chemistry between the two actresses is evident.

Even after all these years, the duo is still close, which is no wonder that they’ve referred to their friendship as being the OG love team. From kids to adults, the duo has kept up their bond which is the definition of friendship goals for many people. It really goes to show that it is possible to keep up a friendship through the many stages of life. Here are just a few reasons why Kathryn and Julia will always be one of our favorite celebrity BFFs.

THERE’S NO COMPETITION BETWEEN THE TWO

In an industry that sometimes pits women against each other, Kathryn and Julia have nothing but love for each other. The two actresses don’t try to one-up each other, but instead cheer whenever one of them achieves a career milestone. “Parang akong ate ni Kathryn na every time may naa-achieve siya ako ‘yung pinaka-isa sa masasaya,” shared Julia in an interview.

She went on to add, “Parang natataon nga po na lagi kami ‘yung nadidikit pero happy kami kasi ang lagi naming biro sa isa’t isa, tayo and original love team. Nami-miss na natin ang isa’t isa, kailan tayo gagawa, may ganun po kami and our bond is really special.” Unlike their characters in Mara Clara, there’s no rivalry between the two stars.

THEY SUPPORT EACH OTHER’S PROJECTS

Friends support friends, so it’s no wonder Kathryn and Julia have been there to support each other’s projects. Most recently, Julia attended the premiere night of Kathryn’s movie comeback, A Very Good Girl, and Kath returned the favor as she attended the premiere of Julia’s new movie, Five Breakups and a Romance. We love seeing these two be there for each other’s career goals.

THEY STILL MAKE TIME TO MEET

Despite their busy schedules and the fact that they haven’t starred in the same project in a while (which needs to be rectified ASAP), Kathryn and Julia still have found the time to reunite over the years. Whether it be for ABS-CBN’s Christmas specials or meeting up with their Mara Clara co-star Dimples Romana, we’ve been blessed with a handful of Kath and Julia reunions recently.

But the fact that the two are still tight even if they don’t see each other often also shows that a strong friendship can still be maintained without the need for seeing each other every day. A true friend will always be there for you even if you aren’t constantly in their presence, something that can be seen with Kathryn and Julia.

THEY’VE SEEN EACH OTHER GROW UP

There are a few things that make a friendship more special than the bond staying with you as you get older. That’s the case for Kathryn and Julia whose friendship started when they were kids and continues well into their adulthood. The two first got to work together on Goin’ Bulilit, with Julia joining in 2005 and Kath entering the show a year later. They would graduate together in 2008 and soon star in the seminal Mara Clara remake.

Afterward, they starred in Growing Up, which marked the first time Kathryn and Daniel Padilla were paired up together, as well as the movie Way Back Home. They’ve literally seen each other grow up and remain friends since. Talk about wholesome.

THEY SEE EACH OTHER AS SISTERS

To show just how far their friendship has evolved, Kathryn and Julia have transcended being just friends. The two practically see each other as sisters for life. It just goes to show you how special they consider each other. As Julia once shared in an interview, “Parang dumating lang na para kang nakikita ng sister and you’re so proud of your sister na whatever happens, you’re just there for her. And ‘yun ako sa kanya until now, na parang ups and downs, hindi lang ako laging present pero andito ako lagi.” Their friendship is radiating walking green flag energy at this point.
