Sometimes, all we need to get through the tough days (and it’s tough being a girl in this world, but you’re tougher) is to know that we’re not alone—that we’ve got people rooting for us, believing in us, standing with us. Not being yourself and always feeling like you’re living in someone else’s skin is exhausting. This struggle doesn’t end in your teens, nor does it disappear in your late 20s—trust me. But with age comes grace. The grace to let yourself grow out of the things and people that no longer resonate. The grace to realize that putting yourself first and pursuing something you truly want is not selfish.
Whether that’s starting another 9-5 job, applying to a completely different field that feels unfamiliar, training for a marathon, leaving that long-term relationship that kept you stagnant, or simply learning a new recipe—it’s not selfish at all to make time for yourself.
All my life, I thought I would always pursue journalism because of how much I used to love writing. But when life happens and you walk your own path, your expectations won’t always align with reality—and sometimes, it turns out to be even better than you imagined. Instead of writing all my thoughts, I’ve found a way to give others the space to tell their own stories visually. Becoming a multimedia editor has given me so much openness and freedom to have a voice for myself.
