While Nadine Lustre is an A-list and award-winning actress, her love for the environment is anything but an act. Over the years, she has used her platform to champion numerous causes, with environmentalism being at the top of her concerns. In a time when climate change and environmental degradation are some of the pressing issues facing the world, Nadine has used her star power to remind people that protecting the environment is no joke. More than just lip service, Nadine’s environmentalism is the real deal. Here are a few moments where her green thumb inspired us to make the world a better place.
WHEN SHE CALLED FOR ENVIRONMENTALISM TO BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS
ENVIRONMENTALISM should be a curriculum in school
— Nadine Lustre (@hello_nadine) December 29, 2021
Typhoon Odette ravaging parts of the country in December 2021 was a disaster that affected millions. And in its wake was the reminder that, because of climate change, abnormally strong typhoons like Odette are, sadly, set to become a more frequent presence in the Philippines. It was during this time that Nadine took to Twitter to ask that environmentalism be taught in schools and highlight the importance of environmental literacy to the youth. She expounded her thoughts in a follow-up tweet saying, “It should be taught at a very young age + continuously so kids grow up being aware and compassionate with everything that coexists with us.”
TEACHING KIDS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT
Nadine isn’t just tweeting about teaching kids, she’s doing it, too. As part of the Siargao Environmental Awareness Movement, Nadine volunteered in a read-aloud session where she, along with other stars, read children’s books on the environment to students in the area. We all know Nadine considers Siargao special, which is why it’s nice seeing her actively participate in the community to make it a better place.
WHEN SHE RAISED FUNDS TO PLANT 88,000 TREES
In early 2021, Nadine teamed up with Bioten for The Green And Honest By The Numbers Campaign, a project to raise funds to help plant trees in the Philippines. Specifically, they teamed up with For The Future, and Make A Difference Travel for the reforestation project of the Aetas of Yangil, Zambales. It was a collaboration that funded the planting of 88,000 trees in the area.
WHEN SHE JOINED GREENPEACE TO RAISE AWARENESS OF PLASTICS IN THE OCEAN

Nadine Lustre loves beaches, and more importantly, making sure they’re clean of plastic and other harmful pollutants. She even once chastised someone for not throwing away their trash properly. As such, it’s no surprise that she’s a vocal advocate for plastic-free oceans. In 2019, Nadine took a break from promoting her movie, Ulan, to board Greenpeace Philippines’ Rainbow Warrior ship. It was all part of their Ship It Back: Plastic Ship Tour that raised awareness for removing harmful plastics in the ocean.
BEING AN HONORARY PARK RANGER FOR MASUNGI GEORESERVE
As one of the few remaining nature reserves in the country, Masungi Georeserve has remained steadfast in the protection of the plants, flora, and wildlife in its protected area. And joining them is Nadine Lustre, a Masungi Georeserve ally. She’s such a supporter of them that Masungi named her an honorary park ranger in 2021. Just recently, she visited the georeserve to take part in tree-nurturing activities.
SAYING THAT SHE WOULD GET ARRESTED FOR FIGHTING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Nadine’s championing of the environment is the kind of cause she’s willing to go to jail for. When asked in an interview what her family and friends would think if she ended up in jail, Nadine Lustre said that it would be for fighting for the environment. She went on to say that, while she doesn’t hope it reaches that point, she does see it happening for her eventually. She’s a true ally for real.
WEARING SUSTAINABLE FASHION
Over the years, Nadine has incorporated a green lifestyle into her life, from recycling to using sustainable materials in her home. This sustainable lifestyle also reflects in the looks she serves. Over the years, she’s worn pieces made from upcycled materials. For example, discarded plastic and recycled RTV silicone were used to mold the armor of her stunning Scorpio dress from Job Dacon.
The crystal look she wore on the Pop Off Ate episode of Drag Race Philippines was an upcycled corset from Neric Beltran made of water bottles and crystal droplets. And her mermaid fantasy cover for the 30th anniversary of MEGA magazine, where she served as creative director, was her way of raising awareness about how we often neglect the environment.
