NEXT TO NORMAL

Tony Award-winning rock musical Next to Normal is landing in the Philippines thanks to The Sandbox Collective! The show, which also won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010, was deemed groundbreaking in the world of musical theater. Next to Normal delves into themes of mental health, family, grief, love, and loss, and was previously staged in the Philippines back in 2011. Catch a performance of this new staging at the Power Mac Center Spotlight theater in Makati starting February 2025.

I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE

They’re back! From February 20 to March 9, catch the encore run of comedy musical I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change by Repertory Philippines at the REP Eastwood Theater to learn a thing or two about love, dating, and relationships in the modern age. The musical was previously staged by Repertory Philippines in 2024. It’s a lively series of vignettes with heart and a feel-good show for those who just want an evening of laughter and love.

JEPOY AND THE MAGIC CIRCLE

Jepoy and the Magic Circle, staged by Repertory Philippines, continues its run this January and February at the REP Eastwood Theater in Eastwood City! The fantasy-folklore musical is perfect for a younger audience, as it “introduces children to legendary Filipino characters and rare Filipino animals through costumes, songs, dances, simple dialogue, and puppetry.”

THEORIA OMNIUM

Expect the unexpected at this curated theater experience with CAST PH! This season, with Theoria Omnium: Theory of Everything, they’re bringing back their staged readings at the WHYNoT Culture Hub in Makati, where audiences will only find out the play and the playwright moments before the show starts.

LIWANAG SA DILIM

Isigaw mo sa hangin! New original Filipino musical Liwanag Sa Dilim is debuting on the Philippine stage soon, starring emerging young names in theater as well as seasoned veterans of the art. Featuring songs from former Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco, the musical by Robbie Guevara will open its curtains March 7 at the RCBC Plaza in Makati.

OTHELLO

CAST PH brings back its staging of Othello for only eight performances this March at the Mirror Theatre Studio in Makati! Theater Fans Manila describes Othello as “the story of a Moorish general who is manipulated by his envious ensign, Iago, into believing that his wife, Desdemona, is unfaithful, leading to tragic consequences.”

INTO THE WOODS

The skies are strange, the winds are strong, and the stage is set for Into the Woods to open in the Philippines! The dark comedy musical based on several fairy tales, which spawned a movie adaptation in 2014, will be staged locally by Theatre Group Asia. Starring musical theater legend Lea Salonga as The Witch, Into the Woods will open its curtains on August 2025 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati.

DELIA D: A DRAGTASTIC MUSICAL

Delia D.: A Musical invites you to be at your glitziest and most glamorous as they stage an original jukebox musical all about showbiz and reaching for your dreams featuring Jonathan Manalo’s music. The show takes the stage starting April this year at Newport World Resorts Performing Arts Theater.

SINTANG DALISAY

Romeo and Juliet, but make it Filipino and arguably more extravagant. Tanghalang Ateneo is bringing back Sintang Dalisay, a story of two “star-crossed lovers in a Muslim community in Southern Philippines,” to the stage this February 2025. Catch the show at the Hyundai Hall in Areté at the Ateneo de Manila University in Katipunan.

MGA ANAK NG UNOS

Dulaang UP highlights climate justice and humanity at the mercy of our own actions in their upcoming twin bill Mga Anak ng Unos, which “engages with the Filipino experience amidst the climate crisis.” Details are yet to be announced.

ANINO SA LIKOD NG BUWAN

Jun Robles Lana’s one-shot film Anino sa Likod ng Buwan is being adapted into a stage play by IdeaFirst Live! this March 2025 at the PETA Theater Center. The film’s synopsis reads: “The armed conflict between the Philippine military and the communist resistance at the beginning of the 1990s forms the backdrop to this study of three individuals who, for different reasons, are trying to resolve an untenable situation.”
