While some assume that celebs just do their job, put their heads down, and keep their opinions to themselves, more and more are we seeing a new generation of stars break the mold and use their platform to call it like it is. And Alexa Ilacad firmly sits in that camp. Aside from her talents, the Gen Z actress and musician has endeared herself to many with how she isn’t afraid to keep it real and say what needs to be said. Alexa will spill hard truths if she has to, and as she should. From not taking rude comments sitting down to clapping back at misogynistic thinking, we rounded up a few of Alexa’s mic drop moments below.

WHEN SHE OPENED UP ABOUT HER MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLES

It’s not easy to open up about mental health struggles, especially in a society that can still be quick to disregard the subject. But in helping break the stigma, Alexa bravely opened up about her internal battles, notably when she was a housemate on PBB. Behind Alexa’s self-confidence is a young woman who, like many her age, also feels imperfect on the inside. Her honesty was not only powerful, but it also reminded us that it’s okay to not be okay and that there’s no stigma in getting help.

WHEN SHE SHUT DOWN NOSE JOB ALLEGATIONS

Alexa is sadly no stranger to being the subject of negative rumors. But that doesn’t mean she won’t shut down nonsense when she sees it. When rumors that Alexa got a nose job started swirling because netizens noticed a scar on her nose, she took to her Instagram stories to tell people to “chill out” because the scar came from her cat scratching her nose. “Some of you are soooo funny! Sending me rude DMs coz you think I had a nose job coz of this ‘scar’ on my nose (as seen in my previous story),” she wrote.

In the same IG story, she also stated that even if she did get work done, there’s nothing wrong with getting surgical enhancements for your physical features. “There is nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery if a person wanted to. Periodtttt.” Ending ridiculous rumors while also advocating for no judgment for going under the knife? You better spill, Alexa!

WHEN SHE ENDED A NETIZEN WHO SAID THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING “OFF” WITH HER BODY

How is it that it’s already 2024 and people are still bothered by other people’s appearances? When a netizen commented in one of her IG posts that there was something “mejo off” about her body, Alexa wasted no time teaching the body shammer a lesson. “2024 na pero hindi ka pa rin aware na our bodies come in different shapes, sizes, and proportions? I’d suggest you hit the books before making comments that are very… ‘off’,” she said in her fire response. And when the same netizen tried coming at her again, Alexa shot it down with quickness. “Me being a celebrity doesn’t give you a free pass to be rude.”

Sharing the interaction on her IG stories, Alexa reminded people that even as a public figure, it’s not right to just say whatever you want to her. “Last time I checked, ang trabaho ko po bilang artista ay umarte, kumanta, sumayaw minsan, at magpasaya ng tao. (Which I love doing). Buuut it isn’t part of my job description to tolerate rude comments like this. Constructive criticism—I accept with open heart, but this? Nah. Such a toxic mindset.” Exactly queen.

WHEN SHE SHUT DOWN THINKING THAT WOMEN DESERVE THE HARASSMENT THEY GET

It’s dumb, we know. But there are people in this world who sadly think that the harassment women face is because “they were asking for it” with what they were wearing. Responding to a basher who said, “Kaya ka nababastos kasi kabastos-bastos pananamit mo,” Alexa ended them with one sentence. “No, kaya kami nababastos kasi bastos ka.” The actress went on to add that blaming victims is not the way to go as everyone, regardless of how they act or what they wear, deserves to be respected. “Wala sa pananamit ‘yung dahilan kung bakit nababastos ang mga babae. Kaya nababastos ang mga babae kasi may bastos.” Louder to the people in the back!

WHEN SHE TOLD PEOPLE TO MIND THEIR BUSINESS ON WHAT OTHER PEOPLE WEAR

There’s nothing greater than a woman who knows her worth. Such is the case for Alexa, who’s that girl energy manifests in, among other ways, unapologetically embracing her curves. But it seems that her confidence, especially her decision to wear two-piece swimsuits, has rubbed some people the wrong way. To that, Alexa had the best IDGAF response. “Bakit tayo nangingialam sa isusuot ng ibang tao? ‘Di naman tayo ang nagpapakain sa kanila. Hindi naman tayo ang bumili ng damit nila. Hindi naman ikakasira ng buhay mo kung nag-two-piece sila.” She said “Mind your business” and we’re here for it.

WHEN SHE SAID THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH MEN WEARING MAKEUP

Last time we checked, makeup is not gendered and men and women can wear it however they like. Alexa knows this too and made known her support when she responded to a comment saying men shouldn’t wear makeup. “We now know, accept, and understand that make-up has no gender,” she said. “Lahat tayo may karapatan mag-make-up. Pera mo, binili mo, do what you want with it.” Serving face card isn’t limited to a specific gender, so take it from Alexa and live your best life.

WHEN SHE SAID IT’S OK FOR WOMEN TO NOT HAVE CHILDREN

Whether or not a woman wants to have kids is a decision that is hers to make. And if some women don’t see being a mom in the cards for them, so what? That’s the case for Alexa, who shared her understanding and support for women not wanting to have babies in an interview. As she sees it, women shouldn’t feel pressured by society to do something they don’t want to and instead have the freedom to do what they want with their lives. “I think now, we’re more open to living our lives the way we want to live without fear of judgment from other people.”
