SB19 ended the night as the most awarded nominee with four awards followed by Ben&Ben with two. The 2021 MYX Music Awards also had performances from BGYO, Maris Racal, Ed Sheeran, and more.
It was a night of music, celebration, and success at the 16th annual MYX Music Awards. Held on August 7, the 2021 MYX Music Awards celebrated, recognized, and awarded the biggest hitmakers and trendsetters of 2020 in the Philippine music scene and beyond. This was the second year in a row the event was held virtually because of the pandemic with Edward Barber, Ai dela Cruz, and Samm Alvero as the show’s hosts. Here’s a rundown of what went down.

Going into the 2021 MYX MUSIC AWARDS, Ben&Ben, Moira Dela Torre, and SB19 led the pack with the most nominations with five, four, and three respectively. By the end of the night, SB19 and Ben&Ben emerged as the biggest winners of the awards show. The winners were determined by a mix of fan voting (60%) and artist polls (40%). SB19 took home four awards, the most of any nominee. They won Song of the Year for Alab, Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year for Alab, and was voted as the kumu Audience choice award. This is the second year in a row where the boys won Song of the Year and Artists of the Year at the MYX Music Awards.

Ben&Ben, meanwhile, bagged two awards: Mellow Video of the Year for Sa Sununod Na Habang Buhay and Collaboration of the Year for Paalam with Moira Dela Torre. Other winners of the night include New Artist of the Year for rapper Matthaios and Rock Video of the Year for Lakas by COLN featuring Dale Jarius. R&B/Hip-Hop Video of the Year went to Love by Michael Pacquiao. Dynamite by BTS took home the award for International Video of the Year. The 2021 MYX Music Awards included for the first time the kumu Streamer of the Year category, which went to Jex de Castro.
SPECIAL AWARDS
This year’s recipient for the MYX Magna Award went to the Pinoy folk-rock band, Asin. The group has been active since the 70s and has been noted for including local folk sounds into popular music. Member Lolita Carbon accepted the award on behalf of Asin. Some of their hits songs include Balita, Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran, and Himig Ng Pag-ibig. Olivia Rodrigo was also awarded the Global Achievement of the Year Award in recognition of the breakout year the young singer and actor has had. Finally, Nadine Lustre was given the Special Achievement Award for her groundbreaking 2020 visual album, Wildest Dreams.
THE PERFORMANCES
Of course, the 2021 MYX Music Awards wasn’t just about giving awards. It was also filled with musical performances with a total of 31 performances for the night. Aside from taking home a bag full of awards, SB19 also delivered a heartfelt performance of MAPA while dressed in purple suits. Ben&Ben had us jamming to their performance of Upuan. BGYO mesmerized us with their moves during their performance of He’s Into Her. Maris Racal performed Ate Sandali, Inigo Pascual delivered a performance for Neverland, while Jex De Castro sang Tagpuan. Kianna V, Ebe Dancel, Rico Blanco, Leanne & Naara, Nameless Kids, Zild, KZ Tandingan, and Moira Dela Torre, among others, were also on hand to perform.
The show also featured performances from international artists most notably Ed Sheeran who sang Bad Habits. Pink Sweat$ sang At My Worst while MAX performed Butterflies. Other acts included AJ Mitchell, K-pop boy group T1419, New Hope Club, Alec Benjamin, LANY, and Lukas Graham, among others.
