An important moment in Pinoy pop culture is set to go down this May. We are, of course, talking about the one and only Sarah Geronimo celebrating her 20th anniversary in the showbiz industry. It was in 2003 when the Popstar Royalty made her debut in the music scene, and it’s been a steady climb for the star since. Marking this milestone is her return to the live concert stage in May, which will take an even more passionate and personal turn as Sarah breaks new ground as the show’s co-director.
SHE’S TURNING 20
Sarah Geronimo is a true multi-hyphenate who is about to add “concert director” to her already long list of titles. Last week, Viva announced Sarah G’s 20th-anniversary concert, which will be held at the Araneta Coliseum on May 12. The occasion makes her return to the Big Dome after her joint concert with Regine Velasquez in February 2020.
This will also be Sarah’s first solo concert at Araneta Coliseum since 2018’s This 15 Me 15th-anniversary concert, which, by the way, holds the record as the highest-grossing local concert in history. Finally, it will also be the OPM star’s return to the concert stage in general since March 2021’s Tala: The Film Concert. It’s not hard to see why tickets have been selling out fast.
But aside from the absolute joy of seeing the pop icon on the concert stage doing what she does best, it gets even better with her hand being involved in the behind-the-scenes work. Sarah is set to co-direct the show with concert director Paolo Valenciano. While Sarah hasn’t said much about her decision to co-direct, Paolo did share a pic of Sarah writing on a whiteboard, most likely sharing her ideas with the team. Celebrating 20 years in the entertainment industry is no joke, so Sarah’s decision to help lead the production is her way to make sure that her creative vision is realized. This is going to be a special show for all the right reasons.
BEHIND-THE-SCENES WORK
ICYDK this won’t be the first time the superstar went behind the camera for her work. She’s credited as a co-producer on The Great Unknown LP. Meanwhile, she co-directed her iconic Ikok-Ikot music video. And with her recent work, Sarah G’s creative input came through coming up with the concept for the music video of Dati-Dati and the performance video for Duyan, which was directed by Paolo Valenciano.
Clearly, she’s more than just a killer performer who can figuratively set the stage on fire. She’s also a creative who has ideas of her own. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see how Sarah Geronimo brings to life her 20th-anniversary concert.
