No tricks, only treats here. The only thing scary about this month’s food picks is the fact that you might end up with no more money left after you’ve tried all of our favorites out yourself. (And trust us, it’s worth it.) Whether you’re a beverage goblin or a savory foodie, we know your list of go-to orders and cafĆ©s has no limit. So, as part of our monthly effort to expand all of our gastronomic endeavors, here are some of the food, drinks, and meals that lived rent-free in our minds all October long.
Vida Zero Salty Lychee Sparkling Drink – Maggie Batacan, Editor-in-Chief
While I was disappointed to find out that this drink has zero lychee in it (it uses artificial lychee flavor, not juice or anything), it tastes really good. Itās just the right amount of sweet and is extremely refreshing. The added saltiness really hits for me. I always make sure to snag a couple of cans every time I go on a grocery run.
Harlan + Holden Coffee X Lagrima – Raf Bautista, Managing Editor
The idea of a collab between a coffee shop and a Mexican restaurant might sound unexpected, but it works here. The food options, both the Lagrima staples and exclusives for Harlan + Holden Coffee hit the spot. Iām especially a fan of the nachos and taco shells. The crunch was crunching.
Sweet Idiot’s Caramel Toast Latte – Precy Tan, Copywriter
I loved the Sweet Idiot’s Caramel Toast Latte because it perfectly blended comfort and indulgence in every sip. The rich, velvety coffee was complemented by a smooth caramel flavor that wasn’t overly sweet, striking the right balance. The toast undertone added a unique twist, making it feel like a warm hug in a cup. Plus, it has frosted cereal on top!
Dennyās Banana Hazelnut Waffle – Jasmin Dasigan, Production Associate
This brings me so much joy every time I order this in the morning! It has enough blend of banana and chocolate inside which doesn’t feel too cloying to eat.
Din Tai Fung’s Dry Noodles with Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wontons – Gelo Quijencio, Multimedia Artist
Din Tai Fung’s Dry Noodles with Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wontons is such an easy dish to love! The noodles have that perfect, chewy texture, and the sauce is so well-balancedāspicy, but with a hint of sweetness. The wontons are plump and juicy, with tender pork and shrimp that make every bite satisfying. Plus, the way the sauce clings to everything ties all the flavors together beautifully. Itās one of those dishes that’s bold and comforting at the same time!
Chick Chickenās Chicken One Meal – Kristiel Andrade, Marketing Intern
I discovered this shop on TikTok and when I found out itās only in Pasig, I immediately made an order. It’s among my fave chicken tenders ever. Crispy and juicy, it’s just the right amount of saltiness, because the dips are very flavorful.
Hand Hand Coffee – Bernice Ignacio, Multimedia Art Intern
Hand Hand Coffee is hands down the best coffee shop in the South! They first set up shop in Marcelo Green Village at the height of the pandemic and have not stopped serving coffee and smiles ever since. On random afternoons around the village, I like to stop by Hand Hand and get my usual Strawberry Latte fix. But the real winner is really the Spanish Latte. Oh, and did I mention that they’re pet-friendly too?
Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha – Jhezrylle Roxas, Marketing Intern
The Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha is my go-to drink. Iām obsessed with it! Itās the perfect mix of creamy white chocolate and smooth espressoāsweet but not overpowering. Itās super refreshing and always feels like a nice treat, especially on a sunny day.
