And just like that, we’re 50% done with 2025. But as time continues to work in mysterious ways, we at least can take comfort in knowing that July won’t be a slouch when it comes to new content for the cinemas and streaming services. The month is already exciting, considering that it will see the streaming debut of major titles such as Anora on Max on July 12 and SB19’s Pagtatag! The Documentary on Netflix on July 23, but don’t sleep on the new movies and shows because it’s a loaded lineup. Get your watchlist ready and scroll down to see what your viewing habits might look like this July.

HEAD OF STATE

Start your month with a little popcorn movie action courtesy of Idris Elba and John Cena. In this action-comedy, the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardizes their countries’ “special relationship.” But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary, they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other.

Ultimately allied with the MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world. The movie is now streaming on Prime Video.

THE OLD GUARD 2

Remember The Old Guard, the Netflix movie you probably watched during the pandemic? Well, the sequel is here. Charlize Theron returns as immortal warrior Andy as she reunites with her band of immortal mercenaries charged with defending the Earth and faces off against a new evil out to end humankind. Did we mention that the villain is played by Uma Thurman? Here for this baddie showdown. You can catch this now on Netflix.

JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH

The first blockbuster of the month is a return to the land of the dinosaurs. Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Scarlett Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades. LAW AND THE CITY

This K-drama promises to be a legal drama about the lives of Seoul’s overworked and underappreciated legal professionals. Tucked away from the bright lights of Gangnam and the party scene of Hongdae lies Seocho, a bustling legal district that’s home to countless lawyers struggling to reconcile their past ambitions with their present reality. We follow ninth-year associate Ahn Juhyeong, a competent lawyer who’s mastered his craft but who’s too comfortable to take the next step in his career.

Jaded from fighting for clients who don’t always align with his moral principles, Juhyeong is shocked when Huiji, a bright and ambitious newly qualified lawyer, joins the firm and reminds him of what he used to aspire to. The show makes its way onto Disney+ on July 5.

NYAIGHT OF THE LIVING CAT

Zombies, but make it cats. This horror-comedy anime has a fun spin on the end of the world. Set in the year 20XX, a mysterious virus is causing people to turn into cats whenever they come into contact with one. Among the survivors is Kunagi, a man with a mysterious past and a deep knowledge of cats, who may just be humanity’s last hope.

Knowing that Takashi Miike, the director of Audition and Ichi the Killer, serves as the show’s executive director, and Tomohiro Kamitani, who served as a director on One Punch Man, is directing the series, has us even more excited for this quirky show. It streams exclusively on Crunchyroll starting July 6.

SUPERMAN

One of 2025’s most anticipated movies is finally here. James Gunn begins the DC Studios era with a new take on the iconic superhero as we find him already adapted to his superpowers and tries to balance love with protecting the world. Seeing a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind is the kind of thing we need in today’s climate. The movie flies into local cinemas on July 9.

New decade, new reboot. When Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette (Rihanna) leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world (specifically Paris) to save him. With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe. It plays in cinemas on July 16.

BRING HER BACK

If you loved the horror film Talk to Me, then you may want to have this movie on your radar as it’s the newest project from that movie’s directors Danny and Michael Philippou. It tells the tale of a brother, Andy (Billy Barratt), and his low-vision sister Piper (Sora Wong) as they enter the care of their new foster mother. Slowly, they uncover a terrifying ritual in their new secluded home. Discover the dark secrets of the house when it screens in cinemas on July 16.

LOW LIFE

When a group of opportunistic chancers who are down on their luck hear about a world of riches discovered at the bottom of the sea, knives will be drawn in this new K-drama. Set in 1970s Korea, the show follows Oh Gwanseok and Oh Heedong, an uncle and nephew who’ve spent the best part of their lives chasing get-rich-quick schemes. When word begins to spread that an ancient treasure ship has been discovered off the coast of Korea, the two will race against time and other opportunists to recover the sunken treasure and claim the lives they’ve always dreamed of. See how this unfolds when it streams on Disney+ on July 16.

BULLET/BULLET

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where people are forced to repurpose junk from the Old World to survive, this original anime from Sunghoo Park, the director of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, follows Gear, a junk dealer with a secret. Working as a thief by night, Gear partners with Qu-0213, a robot with multiple personalities, and Shirokuma, a polar bear with a gambling problem, to steal whatever their clients require.

Known as some of the best in the business, things take a turn for the team when they save a girl from a group of assassins, setting them on a path that puts them in direct conflict with the top echelons of their broken society. The show comes exclusively to Disney+ on July 16.

BAD GENIUS: THE SERIES

Atasha Muhlach, Jairus Aquino, Gab Lagman, and Hyacinth Callado star in the Philippine adaptation of the hit Thai movie. This series follows a brilliant young woman who uses her intellect to help her classmates cheat, for a price. Soon, though, the authorities start closing in on the illegal activities. The show premieres on Viva One on July 17.

IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY

July looks to be a big month for Philippine remakes, such as this adaptation of the hit K-drama. Starring Anne Curtis in her acting comeback, Joshua Garcia, and Carlo Aquino, the show follows an author with severe antisocial tendencies who learns to confront her deep emotional wounds when she meets a stranger who challenges her cold facade. The show premieres on July 18 on Netflix, the following day on iWantTFC, and on July 21 on Kapamilya platforms, just in case you need options on where to watch the show.

THE NICE GUY

Lee Dongwook and Lee Sungkyoung star in this K-drama about a reformed gangster trying to escape his past. Born into the third generation of a family of gangsters, Seokcheol grew up knowing nothing but the thrill of violence and family loyalty. Yet, even though he’s seen by others as nothing more than a thug, Seokcheol secretly harbors a dream of sailing off into the sunset to become an author like Ernest Hemingway.

Torn between his love for his family and a desire for something more, Seokcheol will find himself further tested when he reconnects with his first love, Miyoung, an aspiring singer with stage fright. Supporting each other on the road to achieving their dreams, will they be able to break through and find happiness, or will they be forced to succumb to their fears and their past? Find out when the show premieres on Disney+ on July 18.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS

The MCU saved their (hopefully) best for last. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, the movie finally introduces The Fantastic Four into the MCU as we find Marvel’s First Family dealing with the impending arrival of Galactus and their quest to save their world. Catch one of the summer’s biggest movies when it screens in local cinemas on July 23.

SUNSHINE

Following its world tour, Sunshine is finally making its anticipated Philippine debut this month. The movie follows a young aspiring Olympic gymnast named Sunshine, whose life gets turned upside down as she deals with an unexpected pregnancy. What follows is a poignant tale of women’s choice and autonomy in a country that is still far from reaching it. The movie plays exclusively in SM Cinemas starting July 23.

MY MELODY & KUROMI

In between all the superhero action and big-budget explosions, sometimes, all we need is a fun, lighthearted, and wholesome watch, like this stop-motion anime. The show follows My Melody and Kuromi as they prepare for a sweets-making contest that comes with its fair share of unexpected happenings. You can stream this on Netflix on July 24.

THE BAD GUYS 2

DreamWorks Animation’s sequel to the crackerjack crew of animal outlaws finds the now-reformed Bad Guys trying (very, very hard) to be good, but instead find themselves hijacked into a high-stakes, globe-trotting heist, masterminded by a new team of criminals they never saw coming: The Bad Girls. It comes to local cinemas right at the end of the month on July 30.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

Did someone say semi-remake/sequel of a 90s slasher? When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them, and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth that someone knows their dark secret and is hell-bent on revenge. But, as one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help. Watch this in local cinemas on July 30.

P77

From the minds of the writers of Green Bones comes this psychological horror flick. It stars Barbie Forteza as Luna, a newly-hired housekeeper taking care of a wealthy old woman. But as she gets into the job, Luna begins to discover that the house contains some dangerous spirits. Uncover the mystery when the movie plays in local theaters on July 30.
