If Maki had a good 2023, then he’s probably having a great 2024, and the year isn’t even over yet. Building on the success of Saan?, Maki continued the hit train with arguably an even bigger smash, Dilaw. The number 1 song, which is a love song both for that special someone and yourself, helped propel Maki to even bigger heights. Every day seems to bring a new blessing to the Gen Z artist, but the weekend of Oct 12-13 was probably one of the best he’s ever had. How so? We break it down below.

DILAW SUPREMACY

During LANY’s well-attended show at the Philippine Arena last October 12, the act performed to 50,000 eager Filipino fans. Even before the concert, LANY had netizens talking when they shut down a Jollibee branch in BGC as they served fans dressed in full employee attire. But if that wasn’t enough, they had one more surprise when they brought out Maki as a special guest in the Philippine Arena. Together, they performed Out of My League and a special rendition of Dilaw to the deafening screams of tens of thousands of fans.

Speaking of Dilaw, hours away at MOA Arena that same night, ZEROBASEONE had a surprise for their Filo ZEROSE at their concert when they treated the crowd to a cover of Dilaw. Okay, but can we talk about their pronunciation though? Not only did ZB1 do a good job with the song, but they also lowkey sounded fluent. Park Gunwook? No, that’s Gunwook Garcia right there. Bonus points for Zhang Hao singing the song during his Weverse livestream later that night (and talking about eating adobo in the most wholesome way possible).

As you can imagine, Maki had the best reaction to the news. The fact that Maki went from covering K-pop songs on TikTok just a couple of years ago to K-pop idols covering his songs is a full-circle moment that feels correct. Two international stars singing your praises and covering your music on the same night? We know that’s right.

LANY and ZB1 weren’t the only artists who covered Dilaw as Alden Richards also sang the song over the weekend during the Hello Love Again Tour. Add to that the announcement that Maki’s two-day solo concert at the New Frontier Theater was getting a livestream on iWantTFC, Maki won the weekend. Local, international, the stars were stanning for Maki, as they should. We’re looking forward to more of Maki’s Ws.
