The fashion nexus of Milan meets the neon-lit nightscape of Tokyo in a fashion film that celebrates the power of expression, even when there’s no one watching
The cold gust of wind, the faint glow of neon signs in the distance, and the eerily silent streets—who would have thought that this would be the setting for the energetic merger of fashion and sports in Onitsuka Tiger. The Japanese brand returned to the main stage of Milan Fashion Week with a look at their Spring/Summer 2022 collection in a film that’s both ominous yet thrilling. It’s a unique take on the typically bright and sunny outlook on these seasons, but it still captures the unanimous spirit of exploration, discovery, and nonconformity.
The Travelling Tiger
Staying true to their pursuit of heritage and innovation, Onitsuka Tiger travels back home to Tokyo with a new collection of vibrant color blocking and horizontal stripes on tracksuits, jackets, dresses, shorts, and skirts. Prominently featured is the tiger print, an homage to the brand name and an apt visual for the arrival of the Year of the Tiger in 2022.
The fashion presentation was captured in a head-bopping, picturesque film entitled “MILAN-TOKYO”, under the creative direction of Andrea Pompilio, that transports the Milan runway to the streets of Tokyo. The journey sees viewers traversing through bridges basking under the moonlit sky, expressways lined with taxis yet void of traffic or pedestrians, tight alleyways lined with the fronts of convenience stores and hidden bars, and concluding on a skyscraper rooftop lined with neon lights that form a runway—a visual callback to an airport runway, which was the first location seen in the film.
Take a look at all the styles featured in the collection on their website, and you can take the trip yourself and watch the entire fashion film, “MILAN-TOKYO”.
