BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER
Batman is back on the animated scene, this time courtesy of Prime Video after Warner Bros initially dropped the series from Max (a crime, we know). Assembling an all-star cast and crew, the show promises everything you love about the Batman animated series, but this time through a darker and noir-infused atmosphere. The show is now streaming on Prime Video.
CINEMALAYA 2024

IT ENDS WITH US
Colleen Hoover stans, this one is for you. The movie adaptation of the author’s best-selling novel tells the story of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own flower shop. A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship.
When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future. The movie screens in local cinemas beginning today.
LOLO AND THE KID
Movies about grandparents and their grandkids have been hot property this 2024. And this local production looks to continue the hype. A hustler and the child he took in routinely con the wealthy as they use their street smarts to get by. But that is tested when a life-changing opportunity could end their inseparable bond. This Filipino movie is streaming on Netflix now.
BORDERLANDS
The popular FPS looter shooter finally heads to the big screen in this movie adaptation. But will it live up to expectations? You can find out when the movie plays in local theaters starting today.
ARE YOU SURE?!
Most of the members of BTS are still in the military, but that doesn’t mean the boys haven’t kept us fed. Case in point: Jungkook and Jimin star in this travel show that follows the duo going on a journey around the world and having a good time. Sounds like an absolute blast. It streams on Disney+ beginning August 8.
ALIEN: ROMULUS
Sure, nostalgia hits hard. But you know what else fans want? Competent sequels. And that might be something this sequel looks to deliver. From director Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead), comes this sequel/prequel set after Alien but before Aliens. A group of young space colonists explore an abandoned space station, only for them to come face to face with the dreaded Xenomorphs. You can check this out in PH cinemas this August 14.
THE ROUNDUP: PUNISHMENT
This long-running Korean franchise heads to the Philippines in its latest entry. In the borderless action-comedy, The Roundup: Punishment timely touches on the controversies of online gambling (aka POGOs) as it sees the team of Ma Seok-Do (Don Lee) tracks down one of Korea’s dangerous criminals Baek Chang-gi (Kim Moo-yul) who now operates an online gambling business in the Philippines. In the country, ex-special forces mercenary Baek Chang-gi monopolizes Korea’s illegal online gambling business using abduction, confinement, assault, and even murder. Meanwhile, back in Korea, IT genius CEO Chang Dong-cheol (LEE Dong-hwi) is hatching even bigger plans. See how all this unfolds when it lands in local cinemas this August 14.
UN/HAPPY FOR YOU
Four years after their last big-screen team-up, Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto reanimate their JoshLia love team in this reunion project. Fittingly, it follows two exes who deal with the emotional ramifications of a breakup years after it ended. Get the tissues ready when the movie screens in local cinemas starting August 14.
BLINK TWICE
Zoe Kravitz enters her director era in this thriller of how paradise can hide dark secrets. When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time.
No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place, and she’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive. This documentary series chronicles 20 contestants from around the world over a year-long journey as they compete to become KATSEYE, a one-of-a-kind global girl group formed using K-pop methodologies. With unprecedented access, unfolding over eight episodes, the result is a compelling portrayal of the road to international stardom. You can binge this on Netflix starting August 21.
PAGTATAG! THE DOCUMENTARY
2023 was a rollercoaster year for SB19. And that takes center stage in this documentary film of the group’s PAGTATAG! era. Get the behind-the-scenes tea when the movie drops in local cinemas this August 28.
LOOK BACK
Based on the award-winning and acclaimed manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man, Look Back is a heart-wrenching and impactful story of growing up. It centers on the overly confident Fujino and the shut-in Kyomoto, who couldn’t be more different. Their love of drawing manga is the one thing connecting these contrary girls. One day, however, something happens to them that shatters everything. No spoilers but, if it’s anything like the manga, we’re seated for the movie. It screens in cinemas this August 28.
TERMINATOR ZERO
Anime Terminator? You had us at anime. This eight-episode season is set between two timelines of 2022 and 1997 and follows a soldier sent back in time to protect a scientist who creates an AI program that can compete with Skynet. The series drops on Netflix this August 29.
