After months of competition, the time has finally come to crown a new Miss Universe Philippines. This year’s competition has been an exciting one, to say the least, thanks to some unexpectedly strong contenders and new rules that allowed a diverse selection of women to compete. Netizens got to watch the 40 candidates show off their skills through numerous interviews and challenges over the past weeks. And now, it all comes down to the coronation night on May 13. The much-awaited moment is sure to have pageant fans talking throughout the night. As we count down the days until we get a new Miss Universe Philippines, here is what you need to know about coronation night.

THE NIGHT’S HOSTS

If last year’s hosts were all women, this year sees MUPH go the opposite direction with an all-male hosting lineup. Xian Lim, who is no stranger to hosting pageants with several stints of Binibining Pilipinas under his belt, will serve as one of the night’s hosts. Joining him will be Alden Richards, who has a bit of pageant experience from when he was younger, as the second main host. Meanwhile, Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2021 Maureen Montagne and Tim Yap will deliver all the behind-the-scenes action as backstage hosts.

GLOBAL PERFORMANCES

Sure, the coronation night will see a new queen be crowned. But can we also talk about how the Jessica Sanchez is performing at the event? She deserved a big career after American Idol, and we’re happy to see her take this big stage where she’ll flex her killer vocals and stage presence. And if that wasn’t enough, MUPH is adding a little K-pop to the festivities with the inclusion of INFINITE’s Nam Woo-Hyun as a performer. We’re hoping he’ll serenade the girls with one of his many ballads.

THE JUDGES

The judges panel of a Miss Universe coronation night is always an interesting one given the diverse selection of names chosen. And for MUPH 2023, it’s all women with an all-female panel. The judges? Oh, just some of the pageant’s former winners and runner-ups such as Miss Universe 2015 2nd Runner-Up Olivia Jordan, Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete, and Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam.

VERY SPECIAL GUESTS

It goes without saying that the 2023 MUPH coronation night will see its fair share of VIPs. And the biggest names in Miss Universe will be in attendance. The organization’s owner, Anne Jakkapong Jakrajutatip, is currently in the Philippines and is set to attend the coronation night. Joining her will be none other than the current Miss Universe, R’Bonney Nola, and Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi. No pressure on the contestants.

THE PRIZES

The coronation night will, understandably, crown a new Miss Universe Philippines, the runner-ups, and the preliminary challenge winners. As such, the winners will take home some fun prizes. For the new Miss Universe Philippines, not only will she be the country’s representative for Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador, but she’ll also get to wear the La Mer en Majeste crown from local jeweler Jewelmer, which will be passed down to her by Celeste Cortesi. And that isn’t to mention the other prizes courtesy of the sponsors.
