When BYS Fashion Week made its debut in 2022, the event made a splash on the scene in more ways than one. And this year, the second edition of the fashion week brought that same energy and then some as the Filipino identity was celebrated and highlighted through a variety of styles and creative visions. Some of the country’s most talented and promising designers held shows in intricate sets across different locations in the Metro. Naturally, it got social media talking, and not just for the clothes.

From designers bringing out the best to walk their shows to muses making surprise appearances, BYS Fashion Week 2023 did what needed to be done. We’ve listed down some of the most unexpected but welcome moments during fashion week that we’re still thinking about.

NADINE LUSTRE CLOSES RAFA WORLDWIDE

RAFA WORLDWIDE has established itself as one of the country’s most exciting new labels with the energy they bring to the scene. That was front and center with the brand’s debut at BYS Fashion Week, which had Nadine Lustre, a muse of the label, closing out the show. Nadine looked red hot in her outfit as she stomped that runway like the queen that she is. What a way to open BYS Fashion Week.

SB19’S SURPRISE PERFORMANCE

If the breathtaking designs were not enough, the Neric Beltran show had a special surprise up its sleeve when SB19 delivered a performance of I WANT YOU while dressed in shades of white and blue. A fitting track given the bridal theme of the collection. Decked out in head-to-toe Neric Beltran, the group brought the vibes of the show to another level. A fashion show and SB19 performance for free? Yes, please.

MIMIYUUUH SLAYS, TWICE

Mimiyuuuh walked not one, but two shows during BYS Fashion Week with labels that consider her their muse. First, the social media star gagged us as she opened RAFA WORLDWIDE and devoured the runway in her red hair and black dress. Later that night, she gave a different kind of energy as she floated her way down the catwalk for HA.MU’s show in a head-turning green gown. Find a girl who can do both effortlessly.

James Reid added a new section to his flowing resume when he walked the ANTONINA show in an all-black leather ‘fit and sheer top that matched his black hair. The look was rounded out by a variety of face piercings that further enhanced the edgy number.

DAVID GUISON AND ANGELIQUE MANTO MAKE A SPLASH

David and Angelique were already winning in the best-dressed department with their attendance at multiple shows. But if that wasn’t enough, the duo delivered a joint slay when they walked the runway for Orias Studio.

P-POP TAKES OVER FASHION WEEK

Given how P-pop groups are often at the forefront of what’s next in fashion, it was no surprise many of them had appearances during the BYS Fashion Week. Alamat’s Jao, Taneo, and Mo walked the ANTONINA show while BGYO’s Mikki made black even hotter as he strutted down the catwalk at the Chris Nick show.

THE QUEENS OWN THE RUNWAY

Just like with last year’s shows, this year’s BYS Fashion Week had a cadre of drag queens walking the shows. Turing graced the runway of HA.MU, Marina Summers delivered the heat at Chris Nick, and Minty Fresh and Naia Black turned Nike’s Courtyard in BGC into their fashion playground as part of the Randolf show.

EJ NACION OPENS CHEETAH RIVERA

Cheetah Rivera’s show at BYS Fashion Week 2023 celebrated her 10th anniversary in the industry as the veteran designer put together a collection that celebrated love, freedom, and happiness. And it couldn’t have opened any better with EJ Nacion as lights and graphics slowly enveloped the space and EJ owned the catwalk like it was nobody’s business. How can you not say mother?
