Netflix was quite on a roll last year releasing high-profile titles that satisfied our entertainment needs, even shattering the streaming service records. From its most-watched and most expensive movie to date, The Gray Man, and the Ryan Reynolds-led The Adam Project, to the quiet success of the divisive military-oriented romance Purple Hearts, the sensational true crime doc Tinder Swindler, and the Oscars-worthy All Quiet On The Western Front (most-watched non-English movie), Netflix really worked hard in 2022.

And recently, the streaming giant got to flex its media muscle once more as it released a sneak preview of its 2023 slate of movies. Covering all the genres you love, from a lighthearted rom-com, action packed-thriller, dragons, and an epic sci-fi adventure, here are some of the Netflix films this year that we’re most hyped up about.

Your Place or Mine

Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher are best friends and total opposites Debbie and Peter who after swapping homes and live together for a week, discover something that might open the door to love. Prepare to be charmed in the love season as Your Place or Mine streams on February 10.

Extraction 2

When Netflix actioner and Chris Hemsworth-starring Extraction became the streamer’s most-watched original movie ever in 2020 with almost a hundred million views a month after its premiere, it was only a matter of time before a sequel would be released. And that time has come as Extraction 2 goes to streaming this year. Hemsworth returns as the black-ops gun for hire, this time saving a battered and imprisoned family of a ruthless Georgian gangster. Sam Hargrave returns at the helm of the sequel that promises more action and bitter fights as it comes to Netflix on June 16.

They Cloned Tyrone

Giving off some The Matrix vibes, They Cloned Tyrone is a mystery action thriller that follows an unlikely trio who after a series of eerie events at the hood are thrust into taking on a nefarious government conspiracy. Oscar winner Jamie Foxx joins John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Teyonah Parris (Candyman) as the rebels Slick Charles, Fontaine, and Yo-Yo in this relevant and mind-bending caper. Unlock the mystery as They Cloned Tyrone streams on July 21.

Heart of Stone

Wonder Woman and Red Notice actress Gal Gadot continues her action star era with Heart of Stone. She plays Rachel Stone, a no-friends no-relationships covert intelligence agent who stands between a powerful peacekeeping organization and the loss of its most valuable and dangerous asset. Gadot calls Heart of Stone an “extremely epic” and “super grounded, raw, action-thriller.” Get ready for this explosive offering as it gets released on August 11.

Damsel

From being a superpowered teen and a daring detective, Millie Bobby Brown is now set to slay some dragons in Damsel. Brown plays a faithful, well, damsel, who agrees to marry a handsome prince only to discover that his family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. As a result, she is thrown to a cave and must rely on her own abilities to fight a fire-breathing dragon. Quite an intense premise, isn’t it? And by the looks of its short snippet in the preview, Damsel is going to be one hell of a ride. It starts streaming on October 13.

Pain Hustlers

Adding more starpower to Netflix’s 2023 lineup is this crime drama Pain Hustlers. Top-billed by Emily Blunt and Chris Evans, it follows a struggling blue-collar woman who falls into a dangerous scheme after taking a job at a failing pharmaceutical company. While the sneak peek shows the characters in their winning moment, it’s exciting to see when the nosedive happens. Pain Hustlers debuts on Netflix on October 27.

The Killer

David Fincher, the great mind behind cult-classics Fight Club, Gone Girl, and Academy Award-winning films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network, returns to his crime-thriller roots with The Killer. Starring Michael Fassbender (and Tilda Swinton), the slick-looking thriller finds an assassin battling his employers (and himself) on an international manhunt. “Trust no one,” says Fassbender’s character in the teaser that’s worth the hype. The Killer streams on November 10.
