Coming from a family heavily steeped in sports, it’s little surprise that Dave, Shaun, and Pia Ildefonso are seen as some of the brightest sports stars of today. Dave recently played for the UAAP Men’s Basketball, helping bring team Ateneo to a finals finish. And while they did not win (congrats UP), Dave does have one more season left in the UAAP. Shaun, meanwhile, played for NU and recently wrapped up his UAAP journey by being drafted by Rain or Shine to be part of their PBA team.
As for Pia, she recently made her much hyped and anticipated debut in the UAAP, playing for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in Women’s Volleyball. But while all three are beasts on the court, the Ildefonso siblings have a bond that is as solid as the ground they play on. It doesn’t take a while to realize that the love and bardagulan, is strong in this trio.

When the women’s volleyball tournament of UAAP Season 84 began, most eyes were on the new players taking to the court. And one of those was Pia. She became the latest Ildefonso to play in the UAAP and her family was in full force to support her. Both Dave and Shaun have been supportive of Pia’s athletic journey. They shared their congratulations online while Shaun was at the MOA Arena to watch her first game.

Being able to play in the UAAP was definitely a special moment for Pia and her family. And her brothers were more than willing to welcome her the best way they can. Did they share pics of Pia showing off her skills on the court? Absolutely not. There was Dave who shared this cute photo of Pia sleeping with gummy worms in her nose and mouth.

Of course, not one to be outdone, Shaun also got in on the fun. While congratulating her on Twitter and welcoming her to the UAAP, he shared a photo of the two of them. At first glance it looks pretty normal, until you realize that Pia’s eyebrows have been edited out of the pic. Older brothers, they’re so sweet aren’t they?

While Shaun and Dave have on occasion made fun of their sister, the two are definitely loving as her older brothers. In fact, the two were more than game to be apart of Pia’s debut in 2020. While she couldn’t have a full blown party because of the pandemic, Shaun and Dave served as Pia’s escorts to her Mexican-themed debut and even danced with her. Shaun and Dave, best kuyas indeed.
DAVE AND SHAUN BEING PROTECTIVE KUYAS TO PIA
The topic of the younger sister being in a relationship is something most older brothers want to avoid. It’s either that or they become super protective. Dave and Shaun are definitely every chance they get, showing how much they really care for her. And when the topic comes to boys, that’s a whole other conversation. On occasion, the basketball stars have half-jokingly stated their disdain of Pia being in a relationship or even talking about boys.

If you want to know just how close the Ildefonso siblings are with each other, just look at this tweet. A fan tweeted that he was turning 22 soon. Pia, thinking that the fan account was her actually brother Dave, replied with a very sisterly response. That’s definitely one way to show your love to your brother. Bonus points for how she didn’t delete it.

It’s an open secret that one key ingredient for a thriving brother-sister relationship is for the brother to annoy the sister on occasion. And that was on display during this moment when Dave and Shaun held a livestream. Pia pointed out that someone commented that she was the better Ildefonso. And the two, being the best brothers that they are, were not here for it.

How do siblings show their love to each other? For some, it’s through being there for each other. But for others, like the Ildefonsos, it’s through teasing each other. And usually, the teased is Pia. One day, you can be resting on the couch and the next your older brothers grab you and throw you in the pool. The bardagulan between the Ildefonso siblings is as strong as their athletic skills. It’s almost like a hobby for them. But honestly, all siblings should have room for that lighthearted jokes and roasts because it’s not fun if you are all serious all the time. Siblings who know how to have fun with each other are some of the best siblings you can find.

Shaun and Dave both get serious when on the court. But one thing we love about them is that they know how to do lighthearted roasts at each other. They aren’t afraid to make fun of each other, or themselves, because it all comes from a place of love. Not every sibling group can say that.
