In December 2013, Beyoncé pulled off pop culture history and stopped the world when she did a surprise drop of her self-titled fifth studio album. In 2016, she surprised us once more with an out-of-the-blue announcement that Lemonade and its musical film was coming. And now, Queen Bey has done it again when she delighted the Beyhive with the surprise announcement that B7 is actually real and coming in July.

B7 IS COMING

On July 16, Beyoncé got the world to stop once more when she revealed that her next studio album was coming and it was going to be called Renaissance. The LP is set to drop on July 29 and feature over 16 songs. Beyoncé didn’t reveal much, but given how the album is coming in over a month, expect to see more of the queen soon. And speaking of, Beyoncé was British Vogue‘s July 2022 cover star and in the accompanying cover story, Edward Enninful said that “New music is coming – a thrilling abundance of it.”

He further added once her heard her new music, “Soaring vocals and fierce beats combine and in a split second I’m transported back to the clubs of my youth. I want to get up and start throwing moves. It’s music I love to my core. Music that makes you rise, that turns your mind to cultures and subcultures, to our people past and present, music that will unite so many on the dance floor, music that touches your soul.”. And according to a report from Variety, the album will feature both dance and country music. To make things even better, the project includes act i, which seems to allude to that this is the beginning of whatever Beyoncé has planned.

True to this, her first single of the LP, Break My Soul, is a track that feels tailor made for the dance floor. Beyoncé is no stranger to making dance music, but this song feels extra special with its noted bouncy and club vibes. She really said bring it to the runway with her take on disco. She also wants us out here moving and shaking to a song about living your life and finding a new lease on your purpose. Break My Soul ask the listener to just let go and let the music take you away as it heals your spirit. We also love how Beyoncé teamed up with Big Freedia once more after Formation. And Beyoncé’s rap, she’s always one to experiment with her music.

BEYONCE’S RENAISSANCE

For eagle-eyed members of the Beyhive, this announcement wasn’t that much of a complete surprise. A few days ago, Beyoncé got the internet talking when she removed her profile pic across her social media channels. The move, among other clues, hinted that B7 was coming as she pulled a similar stunt before Lemonade dropped. That wasn’t a guarantee though and the fact that Beyoncé’s new album is actually real is giving us all the joy we need.

Given how its title includes act i means that we most likely have more new music coming from the icon. And with it being titled Renaissance, this new Beyoncé era might showcase a whole new rebirth for her. This is the first new original music we’re getting from Beyoncé not tied to a movie since Lemonade, so that six year drought is sure to be worth it. (In 2021, Adele made her grand comeback after six years with 30 and now Beyoncé is doing the same this 2022.) Not trying to jinx things but, Rihanna, we’re looking at you.

If you’d already like to get your hands on Renaissance, pre-orders are currently up on iTunes and Beyoncé’s website. For 2200 pesos, it includes a CD, T-shirt, a 28-page photo booklet, and a mini poster. As we wait for the album to drop and potentially a lead single release, here’s how the internet’s been reacting to Queen Bey’s imminent return.
