What do you get when you combine the vast creative medium of art with the open green spaces of a public park? You get Art in the Park, one of the most popular art events in the Metro. For almost two decades, Art in the Park has, as its name suggests, been putting art and parks front and center with public parks serving as the venue for hundreds of visitors to appreciate local art in the open air. Out is the typical art gallery, and in is the outdoor space and communal energy of a public park (that the Metro needs more of).

For its 18th edition, Art in the Park is back this 2024 and promises to gather over 60 exhibitors representing galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups. They will present a vibrant showcase of diverse talents and offer an opportunity for fair-goers to engage, interact, and immerse themselves in Filipino creativity. Looking to spend your Sunday on an art-filled adventure at the park? Then check out what’s in store for Art in the Park 2024.

THREE SPECIAL EXHIBITS WILL BE THE STAR OF THE SHOW

ART IN THE PARK 2024

As in years past, Art in the Park 2024 features special exhibits by Filipino artists carefully handpicked by the fair’s organizers. This year, those creatives are multimedia graphic artist Demi Padua, and abstractionists Pepe Delfin and Clarence Chun. Demi Padua, considered one of the most sought-after Filipino contemporary artists, is known for blending figurative and abstract elements. The effect is a series of collage-like images that conceal and reveal subjects beneath layers of photo-realistic materials, peeling away to unmask their real identities, without fear of judgment.

Pepe Delfin explores abstract forms through geometric shapes, squiggles, and lines. She produces a visual storytelling of her experiences, observations, and relationships with people and contemporary life. Clarence Chun, meanwhile, primarily engages in abstraction to create narratives centered on his connections and relationships to places he had lived in. Chun’s body of work depicts biographical narratives drawn from his personal history as a first-generation immigrant. It all makes for some eye-catching and thought-provoking pieces at the park.
