The next Filipino hoping to make it big in Hollywood? Why ABS-CBN of course as they make moves to set up their first office in Los Angeles.

Hollywood seems to be on the mind of quite a few in the local entertainment industry as of late. Liza Soberano made her intentions known earlier this year that she wanted to build a career in Hollywood. Now, she is in New Orleans filming her first Hollywood movie. A few local stars are also set to appear in Hollywood projects in the coming months, increasing the presence of Filipino talent in arguably the biggest entertainment hub in the world. And now, another local unit is heading to Hollywood, and it’s none other than ABS-CBN.
HOLLYWOOD, HERE COMES ABS-CBN
Recently, it was revealed that ABS-CBN International Production was in the works of setting up an office in Los Angeles. The new office, which is currently in the midst of adding staff, is meant to “develop, collect and curate material to produce from Hollywood, for the US, and the world.” In essence, this new presence is meant to help ABS-CBN build more partnerships in Hollywood and further increase their global stable of content. Already, two projects are set to be produced under this new office, the Filipino-American crime drama series Concepcion starring Sharon Cuneta, and the second season of Almost Paradise, an American TV show following Christian Kane as a retired DEA agent who runs a gift shop in Cebu before he’s brought out of retirement to face the city’s criminal elements. The show currently airs on cable channel WGM America.
GLOBAL PRODUCTIONS
This isn’t the first time though ABS-CBN has dipped their toes in Hollywood. In 2019, they began a partnership with Electric Entertainment with their most notable work being Almost Paradise. In March 2022, they also revealed that they were working on a global crime show called Sellblock starring Jericho Rosales. Even their Star Magic artists have been making the rounds in Hollywood. Just recently, stars like Alexa Ilacad, AC Bonifacio, Maymay Entrata, and KD Estrada attended acting workshops from veteran acting coaches among other workshops they’ve been to. And that’s from the plans that we know of. Who knows what other career moves they have been making while in Los Angeles.
This new office though seems to be the network’s biggest foray into Hollywood yet. Even though ABS-CBN lost their franchise in 2020, they have been making major strides to further their reach, like partnering with Viu and entering a joint partnership with TV5. Now, with this new Hollywood office, it may just open the doors for more of our favorite Kapamilya stars to appear in more global productions.
