Filipinos may be known for their singing skills (well, some of us), but let’s also not sleep on Filipino talent in dancing. In particular, the country has its fair share of dance crews who’ve rocked stages, locally and abroad, with their moves, choreography, and undeniable stage presence. A win for a Filipino dance crew is a win for Filipino talent. One group doing just that is And Friends.
Established in 2022 under the co-direction of Carlos Serrano III and Lean Mangrobang (both of whom are icons in the local dance community), And Friends is a rising force in the Philippine dance scene that aims to be a home for artistic freedom and a safe space for Filipino dancers to hone their craft while helping them find a community that celebrates art with love and intent. They’ve been competing since their formation and have performed at various dance concerts, brands, and fundraising events. Most notably, they repped the local dance community with a heart-wrenching piece that won the championship title at the World of Dance Philippines 2024, and Dance Supremacy 2023 – Small Crew Division.
Now, they’re set to go to Japan this November to represent the Philippines in an international competition. But first, they need your help getting there. Here’s how.
PHILIPPINES ✈️ JAPAN
And Friends recently competed at the Dance Supremacy International 2024 where they bagged the Championship title and secured a spot to compete in Japan for the finals. To help raise funds for the trip, the team will be holding a fundraiser later this month. That comes in the form of a dance showcase entitled “Love” this November 17.
The fundraising event for their participation in Dance Supremacy International 2024 will be a show that delves “into the diverse facets of love expressed through the powerful language of dance.” It tells the story of love found, lost, and reimagined. As a nice twist, the show will also be an immersive experience that blends dance with the theatrical as audience members will be invited to “feel part of the journey through intimate, emotionally charged performances and interactive elements.”
The show will take place at Nude Floor in Makati City this November 17. There will be two performances, the Matinee at 1 PM, and the Gala show at 7 PM. You can attend either just one or both shows. Tickets will cost 1000 pesos if you want to attend one show and 1,500 pesos if you want to attend both shows. Do note that the production will be a free seating arrangement with guests seated on the floor (though there will be chairs for seniors and PWDs). You can get your tickets now here.
