Blackpink is reinventing the world, one area at a time.

In their quest to be more, to be better, and to evolve, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé of Blackpink are starting the year with a bang. On the heels of the runaway success of their debut album aptly called, well, The Album, the K-pop quartet are hard at work with their first livestream concert, The Show. However, as is characteristic to 2020, the rug was pulled from underneath the all-girl supergroup and their fans as it was announced that the show originally scheduled on December 27 was to be postponed following the mandated restrictions and regulations mandated by the South Korean government as a response to the surge of COVID-19 cases in their country.

“Thank you so much Blinks for your support for The Show,” begins Jennie in the announcement video published on their social media channels. “Due to the consistent spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re sure that many of you are going through hard times,” continues Rosé, followed by Jisoo, who broke the news, “Unfortunately, we have made the decision to postpone The Show from December 27th to January 31st of next year.” Time notwithstanding, the first-of-its-kind virtual experience was and still is meant to be source of entertainment and much-needed respite from such a challenging year. “Through our concert, we wanted to give you some sort of comfort during these difficult times,” underscores Lisa.

As heartbreaking as it sure was to deliver this news last year, the K-pop superstars are choosing to look at the brighter side of things, and making sure that the health and safety of everyone taking part in The Show, the girls included, are of utmost consideration and important. “In order to make sure that we prepare for the concert in a safe environment, we have decided to postpone The Show,” says Rosé. Assuring their fans of an even better show, Jisoo says, “Blinks, don’t be so sad and we’ll be back with a great performance on January 31st.”

In a heartwarming gesture, Blackpink goes on to highlight the tireless efforts and sacrifices of the front liners through Jennie who articulates, “Thank you so much to all the medical staff who are working nonstop to give their best efforts even at this moment, and all the people who are working very hard to disinfect, quarantine, and prevent the disease.” Finally, with a sliver of hope well in place, Lisa punctuates this video by saying: “Please stay safe and healthy and see you next year at The Show!”

A treat for the Blinks who have patiently been waiting for them, Blackpink is all set to set the stage ablaze with their topnotch songs, high-octane choreography, and next level visuals in The Show. Sure, it’s no live concert, but that’s the reality we have to live with still. But the thrill and euphoria of the physicality aside, it also makes the most sense to produce such an undertaking with YouTube Music, especially since Blackpink is way up there on the list of most followed channels on the video-sharing platform with 55.5 million followers as of this writing and their releases getting consistently views well above the 100 million mark. “We hope everyone can comfortably enjoy our first-ever livestream concert The Show at home and hopefully join in on some special perks we’ve prepared for those who join our channel,” they said in a statement. “Overall we’re super excited to share this fun moment with our Blinks and we can’t wait till The Show.”

While we count the days to The Show, there is a whole lot of Blackpink to tide us over. Whether it be streaming The Album, watching dance performance videos, or watching their Netflix documentary, you can get your dose of Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé before they show up and we blow up.
