DALL-E Mini Is Giving Life To Either The Most Beautiful Or Horrific Images You’ll Ever See

Technology strikes again with the Dall-E mini’s ability to turn nearly any combination into what we can only describe as works of art.

Technology, it truly is a gift that keeps on giving. It seems that every other week there is a new invention coming out, taking advantage of or ushering in the next advancement in technology. And one area of science that has improved greatly as of late is in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It can be used as a great tool for advancement or even usher in a dark future as seen in the recent news of a former Google employee claiming that the AI he was working on became sentient. And with the internet being the internet, AI can also be used to create hybrids of art and nightmare fuel as seen in the recent explosion in popularity of DALL-E mini.

AI MEETS THE INTERNET’S CREATIVITY

If you’ve been on Twitter recently, you may have come across images featuring a 3×3 grid displaying anything the imagination can think of. This is the work of the DALL-E mini, an AI created by Boris Dayma in July 2021.

How it works is that users type whatever, and we mean whatever, they want on the text bar. The AI will then comb through billions of data across the internet to come up with the desired image. The AI uses these images to build an association with the written text. Since DALL-E mini is a learning AI, the idea goes that feeding it enough images will let it learn what the users want and know what to create. Every time someone uses it, it is supposed to be learning and getting better. The DALL-E mini is based off the DALL-E and gets its name from Wall-E the robot and painter Salvador Dali who is known for his surrealist imagery. The service was initially used to auto-create captions for images. But now it’s going in reverse, developing images from captions.

If you’ve seen the DALL-E mini creations, some of them can come off as the visual definition of a word vomit. Depending on how you use it, DALL-E mini can create images you thought would never be possible or give abstract and nonsensical art best appreciated in a museum. Either way, it the internet’s favorite new AI with its popularity soaring thanks to places like Weird Dall-E Generations on Twitter and Reddit.
