FIRST FILIPINO ACT TO BE NOMINATED FOR A BBMA

If there was one specific moment that foreshadowed how SB19 was reaching greater heights, it was their nomination for Top Social Artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. Not only was SB19 nominated alongside superstars like BTS and BLACKPINK, but the group also made history as the first Filipino act to make an appearance at the Billboard Music Awards as well as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian artist nominated for Top Social Artist. And while SB19 didn’t win, it was just the start for the group.

While the haters thought that it was impossible, SB19 can proudly say that they’ve topped a Billboard chart. Back in November 2021, Bazinga debuted on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart, which tracks the most talked-about songs on Twitter in real-time. The feat marked the first time a Filipino artist appeared on the chart. Just a month later, Bazinga reached the top spot of the chart, which not only marked the first Billboard chart SB19 has topped but the first time a Filipino artist has ever done so.

Bazinga really is that girl. Not only is SB19’s Bazinga a number-one hit, but it also holds the record for most weeks spent at number one on the Hot Trending Songs Chart, taking the crown away from BTS’ Butter.
FIRST FILIPINO BAND ON THE WORLD DIGITAL SONG SALES CHART

The release of SB19’s comeback track GENTO in May 2023 was met with so much hype and anticipation. One way that manifested was when the song debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, making it the first top 10 placement of the group. As you can guess, the feat made it the first time a Filipino band appeared on the chart.

This one is more of an achievement for their fans, but it still fills correct to include it here. Despite the fact that they were up against fandoms of some of the biggest artists in the world, A’TIN proved their might and powered through each round of Billboard’s 2023 Fan Army Face-Off. All their hard work resulted in a win after beating SEVENTEEN’s Carats in the finale after a tight 51.1% to 48.9% vote.

After making history on Billboard countless times, it was only right that SB19 was chosen to be one of the first cover stars of the maiden issue of Billboard Philippines. Together with OPM icon Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, SB19 fronted Billboard PH as an embodiment of the best of OPM and its growing place in the world. It honestly feels like a full-circle moment seeing SB19 go from appearing on Billboard charts to being the cover star for Billboard Philippines, and the first one at that.
