They have captivated us with their voices, charmed us with their acting chops, made us fall in love with their unproblematic love team, and now will show us the all-around performers that they are. As if they have yet to prove their immense talents and skills, Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada give us another reason to stan harder as they venture in the theater stage with their first-ever musical play, Walang Aray.
HOTTEST MUSICAL PAIR
With the biggest announcement released by Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), it is official that former Pinoy Big Brother housemates Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada, our beloved KDLex, will be the next stars to be indoctrinated in of one of the top theater organizations in the country. Introduced as the “Hottest Musical Pair” and the “Breakthrough Loveteam of 2022,” Alexa and KD will take on the discipline of theater as part of PETA’s hit musical comedy, Walang Aray.
“Samahan niyo kaming tumindig at muling umibig,” says KDLex in the announcement video much to the delight of their excited fans. Alexa and KD will play the lead duo Julia and Tenyong in the newest musical offering from the hit-makers behind 3 Stars and a Sun and Rak of Aegis.
Co-presented by Indie.Go Media, PETA’s Walang Aray is a contemporized and comic adaptation of Severino Reyes’s classic zarzuela, Walang Sugat. First shown in 2019 as part of PETA Lab, Walang Aray is described as a “fiercely irreverent, seriously hilarious musical farce” that features a gripping and amusing storyline about love and war. It’s written by award-winning playwright Rody Vera and is directed by Ian Segarra, with music from Vince Lim.
“I am very proud to announce that a new challenge awaits,” shares Alexa in an Instagram story. “This is a wish come true for me. Kaya naman buong puso at lakas ang aking ibibigay.” The singer-songwriter duo will alternate with theater veterans and triple threat performers Marynor Madamesilla and Gio Gahol, who is also the choreographer of the musical play.
Walang Aray was hailed by a theater critic as a “joyous romp that feels unmistakably of our time” and a play that “captures the idiosyncrasies of modern Filipino culture in a way that is both refreshing and mind-tickling.” The genre-defying musical also marks the return of PETA’s live performances and highlights the theater organization’s emerald year. And knowing Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada’s passion for music and performance, we could only expect the best from them in their first-ever theatrical endeavor.
