One of the most talked about K-pop moments of 2021 was the reality survival idol competition show Girls Planet 999. MNET’s latest survival show pitted female contestants from South Korea, China, and Japan against one another until a final line-up of 11 would be voted and introduced as a girl group. That girl group, of course, became Kep1er, who after a delay made their debut in the beginning in January with the addicting WA DA DA and their first EP, FIRST IMPACT.
Airing between August to October 2021, Girls Planet 999 became a talking point amongst many K-pop fans as they hoped their faves make it to the final lineup. Like with most shows that become successful, Girls Planet 999 got itself a sequel, or more appropriately, a spin-off, this time focusing on would-be male idols. And there’s a chance you can be part of the cast.
BOYS PLANET
Announced during MAMA 2021, Boys Planet is set to air this year and will focus on a group of male contestants as they compete and perform every week to achieve their K-pop idol dreams. While Girls Planet 999 only featured contestants from South Korea, Japan, and China, the new show is open to all nationalities. Auditions have been open since December, but if you’re interested in auditioning and think you have what it takes, read on.
THE AUDITION PROCESS
According to MNET’s rules, submissions will only be open to males born before Jan 1, 2009. You also must be able to travel to South Korea if chosen to be part of the show. Aspiring contestants must also not be part of an agency. When auditioning, you need to pick up to two of the following categories: vocal, dance rap, acting, and producing.
They require you to submit two audition clips. While they aren’t blocking you based on your nationality, MNET is looking for people who know how to speak Korean as you need to have a self-introduction video both in Korean and the native language you speak. It has to be a bust shot in landscape mode. The second clip is an audition video where you demonstrate your skills in the categories you chose. It has to be a frontal body shot in landscape mode and must be under two minutes per category. You also shouldn’t use any filters.
Once that’s done, send your videos to boysplanet2022@naver.com. In the email, include your social media profiles, ID, phone number, messenger IDs, etc. Also include basic profile information like your name, nationality, age, height, and weight. Once you feel confident with your submission, click that send button. The deadline for application is until February 11, 2022, 11:59 PM KST, 10:59 PM PHT. If you have any questions or inquiries about the audition process, MNET says to send them at boysplanet2022@naver.com. So if you are any guys you know feel that are fit for this, send in that audition. And who knows, we may soon be rooting for you on TV.
