Esnyr’s new YouTube video brought together some of the most unexpected cast of characters in an Avengers: Endgame-style series of skits that give us the giggles, the kilig, and the nostalgia.
We’ve come a long way from content creator Esnyr Ranollo’s TikTok skits about high school life. We’ve even come a long way since his first all-out YouTube production Highschool Crush Moments. From one longform video to four, Esnyr has built a series and a world of pure entertainment just by capturing the purest essence of high school—from classroom antics to young love—and turning it into a YouTube series that shows his comedic chops, creativity, and dedication.
Esnyr’s most recent video is an almost 40-minute production that rivals those on TV or film. It’s camp, it’s relatable, and it’s as kilig-inducing as it is hilarious. Highschool Section Wars not only depicts warring school sections (why were we so competitive?), but also competing love interests for Esnyr’s character Precious.
Like its predecessors, the video is filled with distinct, personable characters, clever lines, and scenarios that are both realistic and thoroughly entertaining. It’s genuinely like watching your own high school experience in all its ridiculous and cringe-worthy glory. And yet you can’t look away.
In this recent episode, Esnyr brought together some familiar faces that basically makes High School Section Wars the Avengers: Endgame of Pinoy pop culture and content creation. From his fellow TikTok creators to rising actors of this generation, Esnyr’s castmates are a who’s-who from different niches of local pop culture, and they all stamp their signature on the creator’s ever-engaging series.
MY PRECIOUS
As we follow our main character (who is truly feeling like she’s the main character—and who could blame her?) Precious Marie Batumbakal, let’s catch up on the love interests that only seem to increase in number and get more charming.
First, there was the sweet Shan (Shan Vesagas)—the OG love interest from Highschool Crush Moments and typical classroom crush whom Precious falls for, but mistakenly thinks was taken.
Shan eventually steals Precious away from her would-be marriage (in a Marriage Booth) to Brent (Brent Manalo), who Precious had quite a bit of animosity towards in Highschool Heartbreak Experience because of a misunderstanding. But the sosyal charmer is trying his best to win her back. He comes on a little strong, but history still carries weight sometimes.
After trying to one-up each other for Precious’ affection, the two come to blows—that accidentally land on the girl they’re fighting for. Visiting the canteen, her feelings messed up and her patience thin, Precious gets her feelings even more tangled up with the addition of another love interest.
Aside from Precious’ OG campus crush Shan and her first love-slash-first heartbreak Brent (Brent Manalo), Highschool Section Wars introduces Precious’ childhood best friend Jared (Jeremiah Lisbo). Jared reconnects with Precious, adding another factor into this romantic equation.
From lengthened banter to raunchy jokes, Florante at Laura skits to rekindled friendships, all three pairings bring the comedy and the chemistry, surely dividing audiences’ opinion as to who Precious should end up with. The next episode can’t come fast enough as we wait what happens to this love…square? Pyramid?
CONTENT CREATOR CAMEOS
The series doesn’t just revolve around Precious and her lovelife. Her story is interspersed with scenarios of all kinds of high school experiences, not just romantic. Esnyr is able to weave together references, jokes, characterizations, relationships, and dynamics that are so scarily reminiscent of high school. You sometimes don’t even realize he’s playing most of the main characters, interacting with other actors, real-life students, and special guests.
Moving from their home base of TikTok and joining Esnyr over on YouTube are content creators Sassa Gurl, Perlas (Patricia Funtanares), and live-selling comedy icon Jenny Chua (or EDSSUE Jenny). Perlas and Jenny are classmates from the other section, sent to spy on the other class’ chant and performance. Sassa Gurl brings her sass and her Ciffy-Jelly to the school fair, bantering with Esnyr’s Balong.
Another standout and incredibly random cameo includes Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Satoru Gojo, which clearly makes Esnyr’s world one where anything could happen. Regardless, we’re seated for more cameos, more relationship drama, and more classic high school nostalgia.
