Standing tall with striking LED lights, you can recreate what a dance party is like through a speaker that can make you groove to every beat and enjoy every moment.
“I don’t want to hear the words/ I just want the sound, sound, sound, sound,” were lyrics that popstar and sword-wielding queen Carly Rae Jepsen once said through her song, The Sound, from her Dedicated album. While the overall message of the song was heart-rending, a music lover like me resonates with beats and harmony the most.
Beyond hanging out with friends on a Friday night with cocktails in tow, I know it’s going to be a good night when the thrill of barhopping, surrounding myself with pulsing bass, the rhythm moving my hips and my heart racing, especially in anticipation of what the DJ will play.
When I heard that I’ll be reviewing the Samsung Sound Tower MX-ST50B and learned about its features, I knew I should put this lofty Bluetooth speaker to the test and recreate this feeling in the comfort of my room.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I own a Bluetooth speaker myself. It’s compact and it’s enough to move around with me at home. The Samsung Sound Tower is a different story. Its tall and triangular exterior can be overwhelming at first glance, almost toddler-like in height. It can take up space, which means you’ll need to make sure you have the room to accommodate the towering speaker.
Once I got past its bulky feature though, I went straight into exploring. The play buttons on top help you navigate and control your sound experience. It even has a bass button option to amp up the beats of each song, especially for hip hop and rock songs with deep-toned harmonies.
Behind the sound system are where the Bluetooth, stereo, group play buttons, and USB ports are placed. I also found out that with the stereo and group play options, I can attach aux cords and connect it with extra speakers. It also has microphone attachments and volume and echo dials if you want to use it for karaoke night. This Samsung music player has built-in woofers below where the LED lights are placed.
There’s also an option to go wireless for up to 18 hours of playing time.
PLAYING BY EAR
When I first started using the Samsung Sound Tower MX-ST50B, I immediately noticed how much bass there was without being overwhelming. It’s just enough so that you can feel it in your bones without grating your ears. It didn’t feel like the woofers were getting in the way of vocals and other harmonies either.
When you listen to a podcast, you can hear the varying modulations of the hosts’ spiels. And with my music mix, I could hear crisp highs and deep lows. I placed the Sound Tower in various points of my room and house as the tonality I play with each song reverberates with the Bluetooth player’s bi-directional speakers, where you can push the audio to two directions giving a more intense, room-filling sound.
NO WHITE NOISE
If we’re talking about how loud this Samsung device is, I was impressed by how far sound can travel with it. A friend came to visit me one weekend and he shared that he heard music coming out of our house. It excited me even more as I had more friends coming over with the prospect of playing Melanie Martinez’s album and live music from our favorite artists.
As expected, the live music we pulled from YouTube made us feel like we’re in an actual concert. It’s unlike any I’ve experienced from the more compact Bluetooth speakers I’ve had.
To mix things up, I connected the Samsung Sound Tower MX-ST50B with the Sound Tower app and became the night’s DJ. To feel like we’re in the clubs we frequent, we made use of the LED lights by controlling it from the app. We chose from the ambient, party, star, and dance options.
Aside from its music-geared features, it’s also IPX5 water-proof rated. This means you can take the stereo for wireless playing outdoors and it won’t disrupt your listening even with dust and splashes in the area.
The Samsung Sound Tower may be massive in size, but it can also be mobile with its ability to play music whenever and wherever you want, making every place you go to a dance floor.
