Celebrity makeup artist Jake Galvez has worked with some of the biggest names in the media and beauty industry – here are some of his secrets. 

Content creator, entrepreneur, consultant, and former cosmetology professor Jake Galvez has cemented his place as a professional makeup artist with over a decade of experience in the field. As a pro-MUA he has worked with some of the biggest titles in media, and the biggest stars in the industry, including: Kim Chiu, Belle Mariano, and even recently Esnyr Ranollo for his cover with NYLON Manila

Jake has even collaborated with O.TWO.O on a limited edition collection of lipsticks featuring three nude shades perfect for a multitude of skin complexions, demoing them in a Makeup Masterclass held in celebration of the brand’s 8th anniversary. There are plenty of foundation applicators that have ebbed and flowed into the public consciousness. However, the brush vs. sponge vs. fingers debate still rages on. So which one is the best? According to Jake Galvez, “The best tool is the one you feel most comfortable using.” While this does vary depending on the coverage you’re after, he states that the comfort level of the person applying the makeup carries the biggest weight. Jake stated that, for himself, he prefers to use his fingers for quick application that results in a natural finish.

Mix your liquid highlighter with foundation. Jake says this provides a more luminous, “glowing from within” finish to your highlight, making it more appropriate for everyday.

If you’re an on-the-go girlie/guy, you’ve probably experienced your fair share of makeup malfunctions. For Jake, the solution is setting spray as rehydrating the face is key to being able to troubleshooting your look. He even recommends carrying around a spray bottle with water if that suits you better. Then you can reapply powder after for the longevity.
