The Newest Core Memory In Inside Out 2? Joshua Garcia

We fear Inside Out 2 is going to be even more relatable with its Tagalog dub, and a special cameo from Joshua Garcia.

Inside Out 2 has no business being as good as it is. When it first released in cinemas back in June, the sequel to the 2015 acclaimed animated movie hit us right in the feels as it followed Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear dealing with Riley’s new emotions, Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui, as she enters puberty.

The film hit a little too close to home as it spoke to not just kids, but also young adults about the pitfalls of anxiety, dealing with your emotions, peer pressure, growing up, and more. Anxiety may just be one of the best movie villains of 2024 because of how realistic she is. But if you want more, prepare for the feels to hit even harder as Inside Out 2 is getting a Filipino dub (yes, you read that right). And as a nice bonus, it includes a special cameo from Joshua Garcia.

MGA EMOTIONS NI RILEY

ICYMI, Disney announced that Inside Out 2 would be making its streaming debut when it drops exclusively on Disney+ this September 25. That alone is honestly good news for those who missed the movie in cinemas or want to relive the magic. But when Filipino Disney+ users check out the film on the streaming service, they have a special treat awaiting them with the added option of watching it with Filipino dubs. This makes it the first-ever Filipino-dubbed movie on Disney+. Considering that we rarely get localized versions of Hollywood blockbusters, especially those of Inside Out 2’s caliber, it’s a cool option. We can already tell Joy’s breakdown is going to hit even harder in Filipino.

INSIDE OUT 2 JOSHUA GARCIA

To make things even more special, Joshua Garcia was tapped for a special cameo in the Filipino dub as he voices Lance Slashblade. In case you need a refresher, Lance is the dramatic anime hero from one of Riley’s favorite video games whom she had a secret crush on. No spoilers here, but let’s just say Lance has a small but memorable part involving the main gang and his “special move”.

The role marks a new career milestone for Joshua as this is his first foray into animation dubbing, an experience he said was difficult but rewarding. “Fan talaga ako ng animation at ng Inside Out, kaya na-excite ako sa opportunity na ‘to. Akala ko nung una madali lang siya, pero hindi biro yung experience kaya looking forward ako makita yung final,” he shared. Joshua isn’t the only Filipino to voice a role in Inside Out 2 though as Disgust is voiced by Liza Lapira, who is of Filipino descent, while Kendra Kramer visited the Pixar offices earlier this year where she had the opportunity to voice Joy.

Inside Out 2 and its Filipino dub make its debut on Disney+ on September 25. And if you decide to catch the highest-grossing animated movie in history, just don’t forget all the talented and hardworking individuals who worked on Inside Out 2, especially since it was revealed that a lot of employees at Pixar, some of whom were eventually laid off, had to work overtime just to finish it. Inside Out 2 wouldn’t be what it is without them, so they deserve their flowers.
