From the hot song to rain showers and thunderstorms, it seems as if the weather can’t make up its mind this month. But one thing that we are deadest on is watching the new titles coming out in the next four weeks. From horror films, dramas, and some of the biggest blockbusters of the year, July is packed, and we wouldn’t want to have it any other way. Get your watchlist ready for these new movies and shows of July 2023.
INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR
The Lambert family’s nightmare is finally coming to an end, and it won’t be pretty. The horror franchise’s original cast returns for the final chapter of the Lambert family’s terrifying saga. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and a college-aged Dalton (Ty Simpkins) must go deeper into The Further than ever before.
Doing so, they face their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door. Fun fact; not only does this serve as Patrick Wilson’s return to the Insidious franchise, but the film is also his directorial debut. Who knows what nightmares the actor can come up with. The film is now screening in local cinemas nationwide.
CAMP ZEROBASEONE
ZEROBASEONE is on track to have one of the most anticipated debuts in K-pop this year. And in the lead-up to that, fans will be treated to this series. CAMP ZEROBASEONE is a reality show in which the nine members set off on a mysterious trip in a customized camping car. Follow the boys as they show off their various charms while playing fun games and completing unique missions throughout their journey. It premiers on July 6.
MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN
Most of you are probably familiar with Superman’s origin story. But this new animated series offers a new spin to the coming-of-age story as it follows Clark and Lois during their early years in Metropolis. The show’s stylized and anime-inspired art style is another bonus of what could be a worthy addition to Superman lore. The series streams on Max beginning July 8.
SEASONS
The classic tale of best friends to lovers takes center stage in this movie starring Lovi Poe and Carlo Aquino. The two play best friends, who, on their quest to find the right one, decides to help each other in their love lives. Little do they know that who they’ve been searching for is right in front of them. The film streams on Netflix beginning July 7.
NINETEEN TO TWENTY
Nothing like a slice-of-life Korean show to start off the month. Follow a group of young adults as they spend their last weeks of being a teenager before turning the big 2-0, a big move many young people can relate to. And aside from centering on young people during a moment of their lives, the show will also give an insight into what goes on with Gen Z who are dealing with approaching adulthood. It streams on Netflix beginning July 11.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE
Ever since Ghost Protocol, The Mission Impossible franchise has been getting bigger and better with every new installment. So, considering that this is part one of a two-part finale, we’re expecting big things. In Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt and the IMF team go on their latest globe-trotting adventure as they try to prevent a dangerous weapon from falling into the wrong hands. The movie rappels onto local cinemas staring July 12.
BIRD BOX BARCELONA
Bird Box caused a collective meltdown in early 2019 with an absurd premise that got everyone talking. And now, a spin-off is here, this time set in Barcelona. The film follows a father and daughter, as well as other survivors, as they try to survive a malicious entity they shouldn’t look at in the European country. More blindfolded scares await when it lands on Netflix this July 14.
BURN THE HOUSE DOWN
Did somebody say revenge drama? After Glory, we’ve been itching for another thriller series to sink our hours into, and we might have just found it. The show centers on a young woman who plots her revenge against a woman who she believes caused the house fire that ruined her family a decade ago. Consider us seated when the series drops on Netflix on July 17.
BARBIE
Whether you see it in the malls or the news about its potential banning, Barbiemania is here. July 19 will see cinemas nationwide in a sea of pink as fans will finally get to watch one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. The Greta Gerwig-directed film sees Barbie (Margot Robbie) leave Barbieland after she experiences identity crisis and travels to the real world to discover who she really is. Live the Barbie fantasy when the film screens in cinemas later this month.
OPPENHEIMER
While one half of the cinema will life the plastic fantastic fantasy on July 19, the other half will be watching the dramatization of the origins of the nuclear bomb. Christopher Nolan’s latest film follows J. Robert Oppenheimer as he works on the development of the atomic bomb, as well as the fallout he experiences from helping create the destructive device. Feel the atomic power when the movie screens in cinemas nationwide later this month.
STEPHEN CURRY: UNDERRATED
The story of NBA legend Stephen Curry is explored in this in-depth documentary from A24 (yes, that A24). It streams on Apple TV+ beginning July 21.
DREAM
What happens when you make a movie starring superstars Park Seo Joon and IU? You get a film about homeless football players, of course. This drama centers on a football coach as he helps train a team of homeless people to compete in the Homeless World Cup. It streams on Netflix beginning July 25.
PIRA-PIRASONG PARAISO
Drama, deceit, and delusion is what this teleserye is all about. Starring an A-list cast that includes Alexa Ilacad, KD Estrada, Ronnie Alonte, Joseph Marco, Elisse Joson, Charlie Dizon, and Loisa Andalio, the show is the latest thriller to hit local airwaves and follows a group of people who take revenge and betrayal to the next level. The show, which will be ABS-CBN and TV’s first series collaboration, airs later this month.
