Another day, another dance challenge taking over TikTok. But instead of revolving around a dance move or song, the latest trend making its way around the platform started as a meme. If you’re confused as to why people are preparing themselves to do a dance battle with kids from Brazil, we’ve got you covered.
A few weeks ago, a video of a group of kids in Brazil dancing to Tubarão Te Amo by DJ LK da Esocia, MC Ryan SP, and Tchakabum went viral. Soon, the video started to take on a life on its own as people began joking that they were challenging people to a dance battle. Other users began spreading the joke of the Brazilian dance battle before it eventually became a trend on TikTok that even reached the World Cup.
Tubarao means shark in Portuguese, and the song generally talks about being careful of a shark that might bite you. (Think of it as the Brazilian Baby Shark in a way.) The accompanying choreo to the catchy track isn’t the easiest to do, but it admittedly is fun watching it be done, especially as you get ready to face off against those kids in the thumping streets of Brazil. Even some of our favorite stars and TikTok creators have tried to do the trend. And let’s just say, they’re more than ready to win the battle.
