If you asked us to list our core memories as students, we’d unapologetically put down “whenever there was a class suspension announcement”. Going on your phone and scrolling on social media or section gc as you wait for updates from the LGU on whether classes are suspended is a right of passage for any student.

With the rainy season upon us, expect those moments to be more frequent in the coming months. But while many cheer whenever classes are suspended, what do you do now? Don’t let the boredom win with our suggestions of how you can make the most of a class suspension. And in all of this, let’s not forget that being stuck at home during a typhoon or rainy day is a privilege some students don’t have. SLEEP

No school? Then use the day to catch up on your sleep. School is harsh enough as it is with how it messes with the sleep schedule, so take the day off to enjoy the comforts of your bed by getting in those missed sleep hours. It’s time to put the chaos of school behind (for the day at least) and focus on rest and relaxation. Your health, after all, shouldn’t be neglected and is important to take care of.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

With a whole day to yourself, you now have more time to work on that paper you’ve been cramming. Use your new free time to get on the homework, tasks, projects, and readings you’ve been meaning to do. And if you’re feeling extra productive, you can also do some extra studying to prepare for a test or exam.

DO HOBBIES

If you don’t have any homework to do or that needs to be completed soon, why not work on your hobbies that you seemingly never have the time to do because of school? Read a book, draw, paint, or assemble a Gunpla kit. Whatever you like to do as a hobby (and that can be done safely in your home), do it. And the fact that you get to take your mind off school, at least for a few hours, is a bonus.

Raise your hand if you never have any free time because you’re so busy with school. 🙋‍♂️ With a whole day to yourself, use your newfound free time to enjoy what you like to do. Whether it be playing video games, binge-watching shows, or just scrolling on TikTok while lying on your bed, this is a day to focus on yourself and what makes you feel good.

PREPARE FOR BAD WEATHER

Most of this list is based on being stuck but safe at home during a typhoon or heavy rains. But students call for #WalangPasok to mainly to keep safe during bad weather, so if you live in a flood-prone area, your priority should be to prepare for the upcoming storm or hazardous weather. Your safety is your top priority, so keep safe, stay updated, and take all necessary precautions.
