As of this writing, there are a little over two weeks left to register to vote for the 2022 elections. With voter registration ending on October 30 with no more extensions, we are now down to the wire. While it is important to get registered to vote, it is also important to know your registration status. That is because around six million people have been removed from the rolls after the 2019 elections. Under the Voter’s Registration Act, a voter’s registration may be deactivated if the person fails to cast his ballot in two successive regular elections, among other reasons.

Six million people is not an insignificant amount. But the good news is that Comelec has allowed online reactivation in order to make the process easier. If you or someone you know falls into this category, here is how to reactivate your voter status.

VOTER REACTIVATION PROCESS

Voters can apply for reactivation as long as their complete biometrics data is still in the database of the city, municipality, or district where they are filing the application. This applies to all qualified voters, not just senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and persons deprived of liberty. When you apply for reactivation, there are a few categories you can choose from. They are Reactivation, Reactivation with correction of entries, Reactivation with transfer within the same city/municipality/district, Reactivation with transfer within and correction of entries, and Reactivation with updating of records of senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Fill out the form

The first thing you need to do is go to the Comelec website. Get the application form called Revised CEF-1 form. You can fill this online then print it or print it first then fill it out. The form has two pages. On the first page, check the circle corresponding to your desired type of reactivation. On the second page, fill out the form with the needed information. Make sure to write your active phone number/email addresses at the right top portion of the first page of the application form, just below the printed word “Revised CEF-1.”

Scan the necessary documents

Once complete, scan the pages of the application form and any valid ID like your driver’s license or passport. Also include a supplementary data form (for senior citizens, PWDs, and PDLs who want to update their records). Send the scanned forms and documents to the official email account of the Office of the Election Officer (OEO) in your area. Indicate the type of application in the email’s subject line. If you are unsure of where to send it, you can check out Comelec’s NCR Directory, Regional Directory, and Municipal/City Directory.

Online interview

After you send the forms, wait to receive an email or message informing you of when your online interview will be. The interview will be for the election officer or the authorized interviewer to determine your application and complete the process. You may be required to go to the office in person if you have corrupted biometrics. You also may be asked to submit additional documents if you have incomplete information. Do note that your registration status might not automatically be renewed once the interview is over. The interviewer may inform you that your voter reactivation may occur at a later date.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR VOTER STATUS

If you don’t know your voter status or just want to be sure and check, there is a way to do that. You can email at itd@comelec.gov.ph or registrationstatus@comelec.gov.ph to ask about your status. Make sure to include your full name, birthday, address, date of registration (year), and contact number in the email. They should get back to you with an update on your status.
