In case you didn’t know, there are only 41 days left to register to vote for Halalan 2022. Registration ends on September 30, 2021, and Comelec has already said that they will NOT extend the registration period. With the deadline for voter registration fast approaching, young stars have been using their platforms and influence to encourage people, especially the youth, to register to vote. Because even though Comelec has already reached 60 million voters for the 2022 elections, there are still millions of people who have yet to do so, and a majority of them are young people. So here are some stars who are using their voice to encourage the youth to register to vote.

STAR MAGIC x BAYAN MO, IPATROL MO FOR HALALAN 2022

On August 19, 2021, Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo, and Star Magic jointly launched a new voter registration and education campaign for #Halalan2022. Hosted by Jeff Canoy, the event was actually the idea and brainchild of Robi Domingo as a way to encourage the youth to participate in the elections. The campaign would incorporate the citizen-focused journalism of Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo, with ambassadors from Star Magic to encourage people to register to vote and educate them on what they need to know.

During the event, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez stressed the importance that the youth would be playing during Halalan 2022. He said that youth voters make up nearly 1/3 of all voters in the upcoming elections and will be the single largest block demographic-wise. “Ang kabataan ang magiging prime mover.” He also said that with the campaign season shifting towards online due to the pandemic, young people can also use their internet skills to help disseminate fact from fiction.

So, to help achieve the goal of having more of the youth register to vote, a handful of Star Magic ambassadors were on-hand for the event. The stars present included Edward Barber, Donny Pangilinan, Miles Ocampo, Karina Bautista, Heaven Peralejo, Aya Fernandez, Ani Salvacion, Charles Kieron, Ria Atayde, Josh Colet, Dominic Ochoa, Alora Sasam, and Pepe Herrera. In the lead-up to September 31, some of these Star Magic artists will be participating in online voter workshops and other voter education-centric events.

OTHER YOUNG STARS USING THEIR VOICE

But these aren’t the only young stars using their influence for a better cause. Alyssa Valdez and Donny Pangilinan both took to Twitter to implore their followers to register to vote for Halalan 2022. Daniel Padilla shared an Instagram story asking his followers if they have registered to vote already with the caption: #tayoangsolusyonsapolusyon. He also shared a series of voter registration guides and resources on his platform. Maris Racal has also been vocal about encouraging people to register to vote and even extending the voter registration deadline past September 30.

Meanwhile, Comelec did announce new protocols to make it more convenient for would-registrants. Comelec’s will extend their operating hours to 8 AM-7 PM. Their offices will also be open from Monday-Saturday, including holidays. The new schedule will be implemented starting August 23–September 30. Meanwhile, Commissioner Rowena Guanzon has said that for the 6.3 million voters who had their voter registration deactivated for failing to vote twice in a row, they will be able to reactivate their status later this month online via email.
