Bunnies, we’re so back. K-pop girl group NewJeans has been through it this past year. But no matter what challenges have come their way, these five girls have proven time and time again that they will rise to the occasion. So, with the start of a new year, the girls are ready for a refresh, and that starts with a new name.

Recently, they revealed that they will no longer be going by NewJeans anymore and instead have adopted a new name: NJZ. Known for mega hits such as Super Shy, OMG, and Hype Boy, members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein were introduced to the world with their iconic cute concept and bunny motif. Now, after splitting with their former agency ADOR (a subsidiary of HYBE), NJZ is back with a new name, and a new look.

Despite their current legal battles with their former label, the group has pushed forward and has set the internet ablaze with the announcement. Defined by their shift towards streetwear and darker colors, they’ve definitely got our attention with this new era.

SLEEK AND STREET

NJZ has always been known for the Y2K aesthetic they followed. This time, they’re going at it from a different angle. In their exclusive interview with CNN, member Hanni talked about leaning into a style that is “a lot more sharp, a lot more bold”. They definitely did just that with their recent social media posts showing the group’s new look. The girls are all wearing complex hairstyles adorned with braids, oversized pieces, and bright red contacts (a personal favorite). Hanni also mentioned in the interview that she and the other members love streetwear and non-gendered clothing, and these new ‘fits definitely reflect the look that they are going for.

This new style isn’t NJZ’s first time exploring streetwear. When they were still NewJeans, the group often wore outfits that had elements of streetwear in them. Notably, their Supernatural era had tons of outfits that reflected their personal style. The era had a 90’s flair to it, which was reflected in the fashion too. Their performance outfits on shows like Music Bank featured the girls wearing nostalgic streetwear staples such as Timberland boots, baggy jeans, and oversized rugby tops.

Does this mean that their music will also change in this rebrand? Only time will tell, and when they finally drop new music, of course. But NJZ is coming in strong with this new chapter. They are ready to distinguish themselves this go around, and we just know the artistry is going to eat. These girls are hungry, and the table is all there’s. Their previous foray into streetwear has definitely prepared them for this new bold look, and Bunnies are more than ready to see the girls own like they always do.
