While there were a few amazing looks last night at the 2022 Met Gala, we have to admit that we felt a little underwhelmed. As per usual, not everyone was in theme, but that’s not entirely the fault of the stars though. There’s a reason behind it, which we talked about in the past. Like what the late Andre Leon Talley once said matter of factly, there is a famine of beauty. In honor of these year’s non-attendees, here are the stars who could’ve nailed the gilded glamour theme at the Met Gala this year.

1. LIZZIE MCGUIRE

If Vogue and the Met invited Lizzie McGuire when she was 14, she would’ve ate everyone else.

2. DOJA CAT

Fresh after her Grammy win, we were expecting Doja Cat to kill it once again in the Met Gala 2022 red carpet. But she was already on-theme even before the First Monday of May and that’s alright.

3. DUA LIPA

To be clear, this was during Dua Lipa’s music video shoot for Demeanor. Her in period costumes just hit different for some reason, not to mention the golden Schiaparelli moment in her Sweetest Pie video that could’ve been the perfect gilded look.

4. HARRY STYLES

Another red carpet favorite that was missing was Harry Styles. We all know how he’s been fronting most of Gucci’s campaigns looking like a real-life prince.

5. LADY GAGA

What is the Met Gala without Lady Gaga? She wasn’t even there, but she already won when she wore this archive Alexander McQueen gown on the red carpet back in 2019.

6. TAEHYUNG

Just imagine Taehyung walking on the Met Gala steps like royalty. This is why we can’t have nice things.

7. ZENDAYA

Let’s be real, the Met felt a little empty without Zendaya in it. Imagine the power she would’ve had in an archival John Galliano for Dior look. An elite serve.

8. ALEXA DEMIE

The ultimate baddie was nowhere to be seen last night and we’re still a little hurt. Alexa Demie’s one of the few people who look like real life classical paintings and she could’ve made it iconic.

8. SELENA GOMEZ

Selena Gomez never fails the period look, most probably because she has the face of an angel that you can easily turn into a blank canvas. Plus, she has the tiniest waist.

9. TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET

The way we didn’t have Timothée Chalamet on the Met Gala red carpet alone was devastating. He would’ve spiced it up instead of just wearing a plain suit and tie.

10. MILEY CYRUS

Where’s Miley when you need her? Nonetheless, she’s been in her gilded look in the past and was too cool to attend the red carpet.

11. LIL NAS X

What’s a little fun on the red carpet without Lil Nas X? He’s been on our radar ever since his dramatic entrace at the Met a year ago with three outfit changes. So, it was a little unfortunate that he wasn’t present this year.

12. RIHANNA

Rihanna wasn’t even there, but she already devoured everyone else. She’s the queen of the Met Gala at this point. Just check out her iconic looks throughout the years as proof. Sorry, we don’t make the rules.
