Doechii has been in the rap game for years, and her recent success in taking over our feeds and playlists is deserved.

This year’s Grammy Awards had some of pop culture’s best moments in years. From Beyoncé winning her first Album of the Year Grammy Award for Cowboy Carter, to Chappell Roan’s powerful acceptance speech, these moments already have a place in the 2025 pop culture zeitgeist. One of those moments is rapper Doechii winning her first-ever Grammy for her 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, nabbing the Best Rap Album award. Add to that her performance that arguably was the best of that night, she was one of the show’s main characters.

The self-proclaimed ‘Swamp Princess’ (a name inspired by her roots in Tampa, Florida) has been on everyone’s radar as one of rap’s rising stars, and as she should. For many of us, she’s become a new staple in our playlists. With tracks like NISSAN ALTIMA, her music is filled with bars and beats that fans have been playing on repeat. Doechii’s dedication to her craft makes her one of our favorite musical acts to follow. With that, we’re more than excited to share why we love this legend in the making.

SHE’S MADE OF PURE TALENT

Industry plant who? The Florida native has been hard at work for a long time, perfecting her craft since high school. And it’s clear her years of dedication have paid off, as everyone has been paying attention to how skilled she is. She is an all-around performer, from rapper to dancer, she’s made of 100% pure talent. Doechii is a master with her pen, writing lyrics and verses that have become beloved by fans. Most may know her for her recent tracks like DENIAL IS A RIVER, but Doechii has been at this for years. Remember What It Is back in 2023? Yeah, that was her. And for the OGs, the love goes back to tracks like Yucky Blucky Fruitcake

She’s a flexible artist who is able to get vulnerable on tracks such as Oh The Places You’ll Go, to being able to exude pure baddie behavior on songs like Booty Drop. Her stage presence is everything too. Her performance at the Grammy Awards had everyone locked in (the part where she gets on the treadmill is just so good) and her NPR Tiny Desk concert is on our Favorites folder. From her flow to her moves, she is giving us everything.

OUR FAVE FASHION ICON

Doechii’s fashion looks has been on everyone’s mind. The past year has seen Doechii embrace her now iconic preppy and signature aesthetic: Thom Browne pieces and her visible face tape. Her creativity and personality shines through every outfit she’s rocked so far. Stylist Sam Woolf is to thank for this, as he brings Doechii’s creative vision to life every single time. One of her iconic looks (and one of our favorites) includes her performance for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which features “three Doechiis” onstage wearing the same Gucci outfit and connected by braids (her idea BTW). Her mind!

HER MUSICAL COLLABS ARE EVERYTHING

Doechii has become a favorite for artists to collaborate with as she proves that she’s an addition that makes any song 10x better. Her infectious energy and amazing presence makes any track become a beloved bop. Doechii has done her fair share of features, and has had some of our fave artists on her own tracks, too.

Some of our faves include ALTER EGO featuring JT, the danceable track with house influence that’s got everyone moving. Another favorite is her collaboration with SZA on her track Persuasive, the sleek beat and SZA’s vibe just make this song extra delicious. Her recent feature on Tyler The Creator’s latest album CHROMAKOPIA on the track Balloon has Doechii rap one of our favorite verses yet.

THE VISUALS ARE VISUALING

Another thing that we love about Doechii is her creative vision. The Swamp Princess has been dedicated to leaving her mark in the world of music by also coming up with iconic imagery as part of her artistry. Her music videos feature striking visuals that fans have been loving. Our personal introduction to Doechii was through her music video for her single Crazy, which features her and her backup dancers giving the performance of their lives. Her latest music video for her single DENIAL IS A RIVER features Doechii starring in her own 80’s sitcom ala Family Matters, showcasing how her creativity runs through everything she does.

SHE MADE HISTORY AT THIS YEAR’S GRAMMYS

Doechii’s win at this year’s ceremony made history, as she is the third woman to win the Best Rap Album award, an honor she shares with artists Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. With how big a year Doechii has had, she is more than deserving of this win. Her acceptance speech has also made waves online as she spoke from the heart about what this Grammy means to her as well as how black women can achieve success despite the odds. She even released Nosebleeds, a track that celebrates her win. We love a queen who knows she’s good!
