We’ve been loving Liza Soberano’s new, more unapologetic chapter of her life. Ever since she dropped her introspective vlog, This Is Me, in late February, the actress has made sure to have a more direct say in her career and the direction she wants to take it. So, when we saw that Liza was the latest guest on Bea Alonzo’s lie detector test YouTube series, we felt that she wasn’t going to sugarcoat it like the Capricorn that she is. And the tea kettle was piping hot as Liza did not hold back on hot topics that Bea threw her way. Here are just some of the head-turning revelations that Liza dropped.
SHE SEES NOTHING WRONG WITH PLASTIC SURGERY
When asked whether she’s gone under the knife, Liza flatly said no. However, she also made it known that she doesn’t like it when people make plastic surgery out to be a bad thing. Liza has nothing against people who decide to get cosmetic enhancements.
SHE FELT COMPETITION AGAINST OTHER LOVE TEAMS
LizQuen, JaDine, and KathNiel were seen as the Holy Trinity of love teams in the 2010s. But in the video, Liza revealed that being part of one of the country’s top loveteams gave her a lot of pressure. In particular, she told Bea that she felt an internal pressure to compete with the other love teams to see who could make the bigger box office hit. For Liza, it made for some unhealthy competition in making movies.
BEING IN A LOVE TEAM NEGATIVELY AFFECTED HER CAREER
You know Liza Soberano is in her unapologetic era when she admitted that being in a love team stopped her career from going to certain places. In fact, Liza shared with Bea that, at one point, she and Enrique were being eyed towards doing Hello, Love, Goodbye. It was a project that she wanted to do. But the film underwent further development with Enrique and Kathryn at one point attached to star before Star Magic settled on Kath and Alden Richards. As she was busy at the time doing Bagani and Darna, Liza felt that she would lose her loveteam. However, looking back, Liza now sees it as the love team from stopping her from pursuing different career opportunities.
SHE HAS CONFRONTED FELLOW CELEBS
Despite being one of the country’s top actresses, Liza has never let her ego reach the size of her Instagram following. However, that doesn’t mean she isn’t afraid to confront her fellow stars. She admitted to Bea that she confronted two stars in the past, one her senior and the other her contemporary. While she didn’t say who they were, Liza did say that she talked to them maturely to work through whatever beef or misunderstanding they had.
LIZA SEES NO SHAME IN CLOUT CHASING
Being tagged as a social climber or clout chaser is social poison to many. That, however, doesn’t apply to Liza Soberano. In a candid moment, she agreed with Bea on the prompt that people think she’s a social climber. In Liza’s eyes though, there’s nothing wrong with doing that as that is the nature of the industry. To her, clout chasing is exposure and collaboration as Liza tries to build those connections and get her name out there in Hollywood and beyond. And that’s how you secure the bag.
WHY SHE RARELY POSTS ABOUT ENRIQUE
Liza Soberano has made it known that she has little love for the loveteam system. As such, her new career chapter is all about moving away from what she feels is a toxic practice. This is why Liza has rarely if ever, posted about Enrique in the past months. Liza is on that love team cleanse, which means less Enrique on her feed, for now. Instead, she focuses more on herself, something she admits is not being taken seriously by some people.
LIZA AND ENRIQUE ALMOST STARRED IN A LOCAL REMAKE OF IT’S OKAY TO NOY BE OKAY
Last year, a rumor circulated on social media that Liza and Enrique were offered the lead roles in the Philippine adaptation of the K-drama hit, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay. It’s something that has remained in the rumor mill, until now. And we have Bea Alonzo to thank for this as she directly asked the actress and burgeoning singer whether the rumor was true.
Liza said it was and shared how two were approached to do the project. However, the offer came at a time Liza was starting to think of her next career moves, and as such, she had to decline the role. As for It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, it has yet to materialize, but is rumored to still be in development.
SHE DEALS WITH BODY ISSUES
With her internationally-recognized beauty, you would think that Liza Soberano is confident with her looks. That isn’t the case though as she shared with Bea that she does suffer from body issues. Given her mixed-race background, her body type is different from her peers, and being compared to them negatively affected the way she saw her body. Liza did say though that she is trying to change that mindset.
