It’s only been a little over the first full week of September, and already the music industry has been moving left and right. Among the many things that happened over the past week, LAPILLUS arrived in Manila and have done a whole host of activities. Meanwhile, their company, MLD Entertainment, announced that they were partnering with ABS-CBN to form a new global P-pop boy group. TXT’s Taehyung became the latest K-pop idol to give praise to Young Cocoa’s Manila while Adele now needs to win a Tony to attain EGOT status. Harry Styles got himself in some (fake) drama that he spat on Chris Pine at the Venice Film Festival, Seulgi is releasing her solo music in October, and Paramore teased what most likely is new music.
On the concert front, NCT 127 had their Manila concert and it was everything Filipino NCTzens wanted and more. BGYO was announced as part of the line-up of the first-ever Hallyuween concert, and that’s a pretty big deal. Justin Bieber postponed, not cancelled, his Justice Tour, so Pinoy beliebers will have to wait a little longer for to see him again. Oh, and a remix of Bella Poarch’s Build a B*tch featuring BLACKPINK’s Rosé is real. With all that and more, you may have missed all the new tracks that came our way over the week. Luckily, we’re here with our weekly round-up of new songs that you should know of. Check them out below.
BLUE – JACKSON WANG
Prepare to meet the Magic Man as Jackson Wang’s new album, MAGIC MAN, is finally out. It’s ten tracks that explore Jackson’s alternate persona, from the bombastic Blow to the personal opening song, Blue.
MOOD – AL JAMES AND MURIC
When Al James named his new song Mood, he meant it. Together with Muric, the two Pinoy rappers deliver a head-bopping hip-hop number.
IT’S YOU – MAX AND KESHI
If you’re looking for a new song to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, this MAX and keshi collab is the one for you. IT’S YOU is an acoustic-driven love song all about realizing that the person is the one for you. These two artists together make for some heart-fluttering moments.
AYOKO PA – ALEX BRUCE
Entering a relationship isn’t an easy decision that some make it out to be. This is what Alex Bruce talks about in her new song, Ayoko Pa. Over slick beats and boppy melodies, the young singer-rapper expresses her decision to take her time before entering in a relationship, which is definitely something we can all take to heart.
DISKARTE – THE JUANS
The Juans’ new song, Diskarte, is a fun pop track that uplifts the listeners with its wholesome message. Life may be hard, but all you need is some faith, confidence, and a little bit of diskarte.
MADE FOR ALL – BINI
The next time you go make-up shopping, we suggest you use BINI’s Made For All as your shopping soundtrack. Their cute new song that they made in partnership with Maybelline, Made For All expresses the power of make-up and how anyone can embrace their beauty through it.
DON’T I MAKE IT LOOK EASY – MEGHAN TRAINOR
In case you didn’t know, Meghan Trainor has a new album coming this October (releasing the same day as Taylor Swift’s Midnights). And Don’t I Make It Look Easy serves as her latest single of the new LP. Throwing it back to the 50s and 60s vintage sound Meghan is known for, the song is a cute pop number about keeping cool under pressure.
FOLLOW THE SUN – ARTHUR TAN AND MASSIAH
Inspired by nights on the beach on those tropical moments, Follow the Sun sees Arthur Tan and Massiah capture the spirit of community through layered vocals and colorful vibrations. The tune sustains a distinct warmth throughout, reminiscent of a slick summer evening’s slow burn. Meanwhile the drums and synths, all underscored by a punchy beat, reminds of pop rave songs of the early 2010s.
ONE IN A BILLION – ENHYPEN
One In A Billion serves as part of the OST to ENHYPEN’s Dark Moon series and it’s actually pretty good. The pop-rock sound is something the boys don’t do often, but it suits them. And Heeseung’s one in a billion part serves as a clear standout.
RUN THE CREDITS – OLIVER SIMS
The xx’s Oliver Sim shares the defining moment of his recently released debut album Hideous Bastard with Run the Credits. The track pays homage to his favorite film characters, from Buffalo Bill to Patrick Bateman, draped in harmonies and sharp one-liners. Confronting heavy subjects, from his HIV status to queer identity, this album is Oliver’s heartfelt journey towards self-acceptance, laying bare his own painful story as catharsis for all.
ATOPOS – BJORK
Let’s just say this, if you get it, you get it. If you don’t, you don’t. Bjork has always been the queen of experimental music and Atopos follows in that similar vein, her first new song in years. She takes the listener on a ride all told through meaningful lyrics.
