Based on what went down this past few days, the first full week of the month did not leave time for us to rest. For starters, J-Hope made history as the first South Korean artist to perform at Lollapalooza while Charlie Puth let slip that he most likely has a collab with the group in the works (more on BTS later). SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu broke the internet with an IG post that screamed both material while the Spotify pie became the latest trend to show of our taste in music.

Billie Eillish performed an unreleased and emotional new song called TV. ITZY’s Yeji and Ryujin came for wigs with their joint Studio CHOOM performance while PPOPCON announced that a special edition recording of the concert plus some extras is hitting streaming soon (you can get tickets here). There’s also the drove of new music drops that came our way this week. If you’re looking for new songs to add to your playlist or new tracks for that next jamming session, this list is here to help. Here are just some of the many new music releases of the week to get into.

YET TO COME – BTS

Instead of the pop and dance tunes of their previous releases, BTS gets sentimental with their new song Yet To Come. Featuring a more laid back band sound, the song sees the members reflect on their success, where they came from, and what they have instore for us  in the future. For any long time ARMY, it’s a meaningful song and music video that cuts deep. They also dropped their first anthology album called Proof filled with mostly their past hits as well as a couple of new songs. If this is truly the end of chapter one of BTS, we can’t wait to see what else they have in store.

GLIMPSE OF US – JOJI

After a nearly two year drought, Joji is finally back to releasing music with his new song Glimpse of Us. And after taking a listen to the song, the wait was worth it. The emotional and brooding piano ballad will hit you right in the feels as Joji narrates a tale of heartbreak that leads to lose, pain and struggle. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song that manages to somehow make us feel hopeful in the end.

GRRLS – LIZZO

Lizzo always knows how to deliver the vibes and bravado as seen in her latest single Grrrls. Despite being just 2 minutes long, the R&B bop is a mood as Lizzo sings about having the best time with her girls. It’s the kind of song to play the next time you have a night out with your besties. It’s just a shame though that she originally included an ableist slur in the lyrics. Though she did listen to the criticism and released a new version without it.

SO GOOD – HALSEY

Halsey is back with new music and for their first release of 2022, they gives us the pop-rock banger that is So Good. The song is a breakup tune that sees Halsey reflect on a past relationship, one that they doesn’t necessarily have ill feelings towards. It’s a great song and Halsey delivered in the vocals department.

HEAVEN – CALUM SCOTT AND DARREN ESPANTO

Calum Scott recently dropped new versions of his song Heaven that feature collabs from different artists from around the world. And one version features our very own Darren Espanto. As you can expect, Darren kills it vocally, matching and complimenting Calum’s emotional tone and vocal prowess. The song is right up Darren’s wheelhouse and he naturally bodies it.

SOMEBODY LIKE YOU – GATTUSO, FROGMONSTER, AND KZ TANDINGAN

KZ Tandingan’s repertoire spans many genres. And she can add electronic to that long list with her recent collaboration with global electronic producers GATTÜSO and Frogmonster. The trio have come together for a song called Somebody Like You, a progressive banger full of high emotions and feels. The lyrics highlight that special moment when you realize that it’s possible to end up with your partner forever.

SKIN OF MY TEETH – DEMI LOVATO

Demi Lovato is entering a new era of their career, and this time, she’s finally returning to her rock roots. SKIN OF MY TEETH is their first sampling of this new era and it’s a banger. The rock track references Demi’s many struggles in their past as they sing about coming out of that tornado alive, even if its barely. RIP to Demi’s pop music for the time being. But we are very much here for their incoming rock era.

LARO LARO LARO – MARIS RACAL

Maris Racal has a new song out and she continues her laid back streak with Laro Laro Laro. The heartwarming love song is about always being by the side of your partner and seeing him as your number one teammate in the game of life. With just a guitar and sounds of waves hitting the shore in the background, Maris enchants the listener in a lullaby like trance of love. Maris sounds so good and it’s honestly some of her most beautiful vocal work in a while.

NUMB – MARSHMELLO AND KHALID

Even if it’s already June, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy tunes tailor made for summer. And besides, it still summer somewhere else in the world. Marshmellow recently collabed with Khalid for a new song called Numb that screams fun. The upbeat and bouncy love song will get you moving once the beat hits you.

I’M NOT HER – JANINE BERDIN

Janine Berdin reached a major milestone recently as she dropped her very first EP, cheekily entitled WTF I actually wrote these songs. The six track EP are all songs, as you guessed, she wrote which makes for a fun and personal 16 minutes into Janine’s mind.

TREAD CAREFULLY – SZA

The wait for a new SZA album will continue as she didn’t release a new one. But with her groundbreaking Crtl album celebrating it’s five year anniversary, she did decide to bless us with the deluxe edition of the album filled with brand new songs. As if we couldn’t love this album even more.

ONTO THE NEXT- RAMENGVRL

Indonesian rap star Ramengvrl has no time for her ex in her new song Onto The Next. The flowy and fun hip-hop tune sees the rapper chide an ex for being beneath her standards and that she’s ready to move on to a new man. As she should.

CIRCUS – STRAY KIDS

For their latest Japanese single, Stray Kids take us on an enjoyable trip to the circus in the fun and addicting Circus. It’s a solid tune from start to finish with an addicting beat and earworm of a chorus. But the second verse featuring Han and Lee Know’s verses hit extra hard and we like how they sampled typical circus music at the end of the song.

SOMEONE TO BLAME – DIXIE D’AMELIO

Whenever social media stars release new music, the results can be hit or miss. But Dixie D’Amelio’s music honestly is more of the former than the latter. She recently treated her fans to her debut album, a letter to me, and it has its bangers.

TRIGGER – CLAUDIA AND CURTISMITH

Back in May 2022, Claudia Barretto dropped the glamorous Trigger as a single. This go around, she dropped a new version of the song which has a feature from Curtismith. His rap verse fits the song quite well.

HAPPIER THAN EVER – KELLY CLARKSON

If you’ve ever seen an episode of Kelly Clarkson’s talk show, then you know that she occasionally starts the show with her doing a cover song. And often times, these cover are so good. Kelly clearly heard the clamor for more of her cover songs as she recently dropped an EP called Kellyoke. The six track album is filled with cover songs including Happier Than Ever by Billie Eillish and Queen Of The Night by Whitney Houston.

A KIND OF MAGIC – ENHYPEN

When we first heard that ENHYPEN was going to release a song as part of their partnership with Coke, we were a bit suspicious because you never know how these things turn out. But after hearing A Kind Of Magic, we’re honestly here for it. It’s way better than we thought and we love hearing the deep singing voices of Ni-ki and Heeseung. It’s a new experience that they should try emulating in the future.

AWIT NG KABATAAN (JOY NG PINOY) – FRANCINE DIAZ, ADIE, AND ALEX BRUCE

You know what, let’s just say this, we’ll give props to Jollibee for managing to gather Francine Diaz, Adie, and Alex Bruce in one song. It’s a trio we never expected to be formed but are happy it exists. The song is an interesting listen but we appreciate the deep and meaningful lyrics. Maybe later down the line all three can come together again to make another song.

WE’RE GONNA DIE ANYWAY!!! – RENE AND MARIAN CARMEL

Philippines born Marian Carmel and Singaporean musician RENE and have teamed up for a collaboration that’s fit for any Pride celebration with we’re gonna die anyway!!!. The upbeat track is a light-hearted song celebrating queerness and life in a jokingly-nihilistic manner familiar to most growing up and falling in love in the midst of a climate catastrophe.
