For all the negatives we get from TikTok (fostering shorter attention spans, platforming fake news and falsehoods, etc.), the social media platform has also been a space for some fun content that inadvertently speaks to how we act as a society. That’s the case with skit content that comes across our FYP now and then. While the topics or scenarios are different, they all parody, point out, or have a little fun with daily life or certain parts of society that we don’t really give much thought to. That’s something Gen Z musician and content creator Reneé Dominique knows how to do well.
Reneé, whose bread and butter is music and started on social media doing song covers, has built a following on TikTok for her conyo impressions, such as her conyo girl skits. But instead of making fun of conyos or playing to negative stereotypes, Reneé’s content is more on having fun with their personalities as rich but still caring people that’s based on her own experiences. It’s a skill she’s honed over the years. And her newest addition to the conyo universe? The Manila Mom, and we’re lowkey living for her.

Ever since Reneé introduced Manila Mom at the start of the year, we’ve been obsessed with following her storyline. Reneé’s acting is scary good because Manila Mom reminds us of those actual rich Manila moms we’ve come across at least once in our lives. They can be the mom of your friend, your classmate, your cousin, or even your own mom, and with Reneé’s skits, you feel like you know this person. TBH, what we’ve gathered from Manila Mom’s story arc is that even if she can’t read the room sometimes, she’s still a sweet person who shows her love to her kids in her own way. She may provide her kids with a great life, but that doesn’t mean Manila Mom will let them get away with anything. She’s not one to pass teaching her kids valuable life lessons like right etiquette. While some kids get a timeout and have to sit at the corner of the room, Manila Mom takes away her kid’s PS5 privileges, as she should. Our favorite Manila Mom lesson though was when she taught her child proper communication skills and using words to express emotions, something a lot of people need to learn nowadays.

While some people chika at the street corner, Manila Mom probably chikas with the other rich moms at an expensive gym in Rockwell. If this video taught us anything, it’s that chismis and your kids asking you to buy cartolina for school last minute is a shared experience every parent, regardless of social class. No yaya, no slight problem.
