Starting the new year with new favorites and experiences that we will be thinking about for months to come.

While it’s easy for many of us to dread the start of a new year, it helps to think about things through a different mindset. For example, a new year means a new year of entertainment coming our way in the form of movies, shows, music, concerts, and more. That’s the case for us this past January as we watched, listened, and cheered our way through the month. Scroll down to check out the media picks we loved in January 2025.
COMPANION – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, MANAGING EDITOR
I watched some pretty good movies in January, such as Anora. But for my favorite new movie of 2025, so far, my pick goes to Companion. It’s best if you watch this horror movie without knowing too much of the plot, so all you need to know is that it follows a group of friends on a getaway at a Russian billionaire’s lakeside retreat who find themselves in a troubling situation that spirals out of control. Jack Quaid is so good with how he plays with stereotypes while Sophie Thatcher continues her rise as one of horror’s newest it-girls.
ALTER EGO BY DOECHII AND JT – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, MANAGING EDITOR
Yes, I did learn about this song thanks to RuPaul’s Drag Race. And ever since they used the track as a lipsync song, I’ve been obsessed. The chorus is so chaotic in a good way and is something I didn’t know I needed in my life. Also, this bop further deepened my appreciation for Doechii as a talented artist. I think this is my most streamed song of 2025 so far, I don’t mind it.
SEVENTEEN RIGHT HERE IN BULACAN – BIANCA LAO, BRAND ASSOCIATE, AND NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES WRITER
@seventeen17_official SEVENTEEN [RIGHT HERE] WORLD TOUR IN BULACAN #SEVENTEEN #세븐틴 #SVT_RIGHT_HERE_WORLDTOUR #SVT_RIGHT_HERE_IN_ASIA #SVT_RIGHT_HERE_IN_BULACAN ♬ 오리지널 사운드 – SEVENTEEN
Since seeing them in their FOLLOW TO BULACAN tour in 2024, I was lucky enough to catch SEVENTEEN again in concert last January 18 at the Philippine Sports Stadium.
As a CARAT myself, I made sure that this would be my first concert of 2025 to rightfully kick off the year. SEVENTEEN RIGHT HERE in BULACAN was also the first tour of SEVENTEEN where I let myself be surprised with the show (The hardest part was not knowing the setlist), and I found it to be one of the best decisions when watching the show — getting to experience everything in this show for the first time took me on quite the emotional roller coaster, so I apologize to my seatmates at the concert.
I’ve been a fan of SEVENTEEN for almost four years now, and I can definitely say that they’re my top artist to see live and live up to their title of being the K-pop Performance Powerhouse. My favorite numbers at the show were: Cheers to Youth, God of Music, and IMA If the world ends. – Bianca
Yes, my favorite media includes all the ones immortalized in my camera roll. I had such a great time at SEVENTEEN’s concert in Bulacan, where they played some of my favorite songs (any other Home enjoyers out there?) and had fun performing to an always-pitch-perfect Pinoy crowd. – Nica
OUT THE DOOR BY GOT7 – NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES WRITER
GOT7’s done it again! This time, for one of their rare but worth-it comebacks, GOT7 released an album of songs that showed each member’s distinct style and color as well as their teamwork. OUT THE DOOR is my favorite (besides PYTHON) from the WINTER HEPTAGON album, because it’s such a catchy, pop-rock track that’s right up my alley.
THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY – GELO QUIJENCIO, MULTIMEDIA ARTIST
I know I am kinda late with The Summer I Turned Pretty but recently, I’ve binge-watched two seasons and I fell in love with it. It’s been a while since I connected with the characters, the plot, and was hooked by the lead characters. TSITP is the perfect series because it beautifully captures the magic of first love, friendship, and coming-of-age moments.
The beachy setting and dreamy summer vibes make it feel like a nostalgic escape. The characters are so relatable, making you root for them as they grow and navigate love and life. Plus, the soundtrack and cinematography add to the warm, feel-good experience that makes you want to rewatch it every summer! And Season 3 is coming this summer so YASS!! (Forever #TeamBonRad)
DANK BY JAY PARK – PRECY TAN, COPYWRITER
I can’t believe my introduction to K-pop was Jay Park, but my friends were convinced I’d love him—especially his song Dank. And they were so right. It’s smooth, catchy, and effortlessly cool, with that perfect mix of hip-hop and R&B vibes. Now, I catch myself playing it on repeat, and honestly? No complaints.
SONGS ABOUT YOU SPECIFICALLY BY MICHELLE – LEONA ABRERA, EDITORIAL INTERN
This album is just so good! It’s earnest and well-produced. This has been the album that’s been getting me through my last couple of months before I graduate. My favorite tracks include Oontz, Akira, and Dropout!
