February is the shortest month of the year, but that doesn’t mean we’re short on new content. From major blockbusters to new show premieres, February has its fair share of fresh releases for the big and small screen. And yes, it’s not all romantic movies for Valentine’s (though there are a couple of picks here in case you’re interested). Check out the new movies and shows of February 2025 that should be on your radar below.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Do we have a new lowkey series that might become our newest binge-watch? We’ll have to wait and see, but so far, we’re liking what we’re seeing in this Netflix show about two young women who advocate for wellness remedies to cure deadly illnesses, and in the process unravel their lives as they unknowingly — and knowingly — mislead the world. You can stream this on Netflix now.
NEWTOPIA
February is a busy month for Jisoo (but then again, when is it not a busy month for the K-pop star?). Aside from her solo comeback, the month also promises her return to acting in the new series Newtopia. In it, Jisoo plays a woman who breaks up with her boyfriend just when a zombie outbreak takes over South Korea. But instead of saving themselves, the couple attempt to reunite during the end of the world. While we have our fair share of Korean zombie projects, this one looks different with it’s comedic take on a zombie apocalypse. It streams on Prime Video this February 7.
BE THE NEXT: 9 DREAMERS
There’s a new idol reality competition series, and this one has a local touch to it. Be the NEXT: 9 Dreamers brings together 75 trainees from around the world to the Philippines as they vie for a spot in a new 9-member global boy group. These dreamers will go through an intense journey, guided by an esteemed panel of mentors and judges to achieve their dreams of becoming global idols.
And who are those mentors? Oh, just major K-pop and P-pop stars like AB6IX’s Park Woojin, Bang Ye-dam, HORI7ON’s Vinci, and Hyebin (formerly of MOMOLAND). Add to that Sandara Park serving as the host, you have the star power secured. The show begins airing on TV5 this February 8.
THE WITCHER: SIRENS OF THE DEEP
This animated film is set during season 1 of the live-action Netflix series and follows Geralt of Rivia as he investigates a series of attacks in a seaside village. Given that this is The Witcher series we’re talking about, Geralt soon gets drawn into an epic, centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. You can stream this on Netflix this February 11.
BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY
Nothing yet planned for Valentine’s 2025 weekend? Then consider catching the latest entry in the Bridget Jones franchise. This go around, Renée Zellweger returns as our titular protagonist, this time alone once again, widowed four years ago, when Mark was killed on a humanitarian mission in Sudan.
She’s now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel and is stuck in a state of emotional limbo, raising her children with help from her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver. As she navigates widow life and being a single mom, Bridget is pursued by a younger man and maybe – just maybe – her son’s science teacher. The movie screens in cinemas this February 12.
EX EX LOVERS
Oh, the nostalgia is about to hit hard here. One of the it love teams of the ’90s and early 2000s, Jolina Madgangal and Marvin Agustin make their big screen reunion in this rom-com about a woman who is forced to reconnect with her ex for their daughter’s wedding. See it all go down in cinemas this February 12.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD
For a little romantic break for Valentine’s 2025 weekend. The MCU’s first movie of 2025 centers on Sam Wilson navigating his role as the new Captain America. After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. The film flies into cinemas this February 12 (yes, it’s a busy weekend).
THE GORGE
If a date at home is what’s calling your name over Valentine’s weekend, then consider checking Apple’s latest big-budget blockbuster with an A-list cast. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy star as two operatives tasked with protecting opposite sides of a gorge that so happens to be a gateway to the underworld. However, the two develop feelings for each other despite rules against it, and their relationship puts them on a dangerous path. It streams on Apple TV+ this February 14.
THE MONKEY
Romance isn’t the only genre having a moment this February. So too is horror. And one of the big ones is this film written and directed by Osgood Perkins, the same man who gave us Longlegs, one of 2024’s most talked-about horror movies. Based on the 1980 short story of the same name by Stephen King, the film follows twin brothers Hal and Bill who stumble across their father’s vintage toy monkey in the attic.
As you can expect, a string of horrifying deaths happens around them, causing them to discard the toy and pursue separate paths. However, when the inexplicable deaths resurface, the brothers are compelled to reconcile and embark on a mission to permanently eliminate the cursed toy. Catch this in local cinemas this February 19.
THE ROOM NEXT DOOR
It’s not every day we get arthouse films like this in local cinemas, so catch it while you can. Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton play Ingrid and Martha respectively. Once close friends in their youth when they worked together in the same magazine, Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation. Catch this exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas this February 19.
EVERYTHING ABOUT MY WIFE
For their first movie together as a married couple, Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo play, you guessed it, husband and wife. But there’s trouble in paradise as they begin to feel that maybe this life wasn’t meant for them with their constant fighting. To make things more complicated, the guy asks a womanizer to seduce his wife so that she’d leave him instead. But the plan backfires as he realizes that the spark might still be there after all. Sounds like a mess (in a good way) we can’t wait to see it in the cinema this February 26.
NOSFERATU
Good things come to those who wait, and that includes getting to (legally) watch one of 2024’s best movies. Robert Eggers’s gothic reimagining of the classic 1922 vampire film of the same name, Nosferatu is a tale of obsession between a haunted young woman, Ellen (Lily Rose-Depp), and the vampire Nosferatu (Bill Skarsgård). He becomes infatuated with her, causing untold horror in his wake. See it all go down in PH cinemas this February 26.
A COMPLETE UNKNOWN
This acclaimed musical biopic chronicling Bob Dylan’s early years is finally making its Philippine debut this February, specifically this February 26, just in time for the 2025 Oscars a week after.
SECRET: UNTOLD MELODY
Music, romance, and time travel meet in this romantic fantasy starring Doh Kyung-soo, Won Jin-ah, and Shin Ye-eun. The movie, which is a remake of the 2007 Taiwanese film Secret, follows gifted pianist Kim Yu-jun who travels to Korea to teach at a prestigious music school after an accident cuts his performing days short. There, he meets Yoo Jung-a, a captivating musician that he develops feelings for.
However, things take a turn when Yu-jun discovers that Jung-a is more than what she seems. Soon, he realizes their love is caught in a time-bending paradox, forcing him to make an impossible choice that will determine their fate. You can watch this in local cinemas on February 26.
SOSYAL CLIMBERS
Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings star in their first movie together where they play hustler couple Jessa and Ray respectively. After being thrown out of their apartment and stuck with a massive debt after falling for a scam, the newlywed couple and wannabe socialites secretly stay in an abandoned house in an exclusive subdivision. The problem? They get mistaken as the real owners, forcing them to create elaborate fake identities to pretend to be rich themselves. The film streams on Netflix on February 27.
