Ah, March. For many, it signals the start of the summer season. To others, it’s when the temperature gets even hotter. From K-dramas, blockbusters, animated shows, and more, check out this list of new movies and shows coming this March you don’t want to miss.
SPACEMAN
Adam Sandler in space who embarks on an introspective journey in life with the help of an alien? That’s the premise of this sci-fi flick about an astronaut on a research mission who, six months into his solo mission, encounters a mysterious creature on his ship who helps him confront the cracks in his marriage. It’s now streaming on Netflix.
IMAGINARY
Imaginary friends are the latest piece of our childhood given the horror treatment in this movie about a woman who returns to her childhood home and learns that the imaginary friend she abandoned is real and out to get her. You don’t have to imagine this story as the terror of this evil teddy bear is now showing in local cinemas.
KUNG FU PANDA 4
After years of adventure Po, the Dragon Warrior is called upon by destiny to pass on his mantle as the Dragon Warrior. More specifically, he’s tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. But first, he must first find and train a new Dragon Warrior. Things are made even worse when the sorceress Chameleon, is out to steal Po’s Staff of Wisdom, which would give her the power to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.
So, to stop her, Po recruits the help of quick-witted thief Zhen. In the process, Po will discover that heroes can be found in the most unexpected places. Catch this in local cinemas now.
THE COLOR PURPLE
The classic film gets a musical reimagining in this bold new take on a story of love and resilience, adapted from the beloved novel and the Broadway musical. Torn apart from her sister and her children, Celie faces many hardships in her life but ultimately learns to find extraordinary strength in the unbreakable bonds of a new kind of sisterhood. DAMSEL
This is no Prince Charming story. Elodie, a young woman set to be married to Prince Henry, is betrayed after she is thrown in a pit as a sacrifice to a fire-breathing dragon. Alone and with no one to rely on but herself, she must take arms and embark on a fierce fight for survival against the people who sought to wrong her. Damsel was one of the more exciting offerings in Netflix’s catalog in 2023 before it got pushed to this year. So, it will be exciting to see it when it drops on the steaming service this March 8.
SPY X FAMILY CODE: WHITE
Your favorite spy family is headed to the big screen. Loid Forger receives an order to step down from Operation Strix. To keep his assignment and continue with his mission, Loid helps Anyawin in a cooking competition at Eden Academy by making the principal’s favorite pastry. To perfect the recipe, the Forgers travel to the pastry’s origin, where they unintentionally set off a series of events that could threaten world peace.
It lands in local theaters on March 13, but if you’re itching to see the Forger family on the big screen ASAP, there will also be advance fan screening events on Saturday, March 9, at 7 pm at SM Megamall cinema 4 and SM North EDSA cinema 3. Bob Marley’s life heads to the big screen in this celebration of his music and legacy. Discover Marley’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music when it lands in local cinemas this March 13.
RED OLLERO: MABUHAY IS A LIE
Filipino comedy takes center stage in Red Ollero’s first major stand-up special. The Pinoy comedian and actor takes aim at fast food, awkward sex, and the trouble with being not-quite-famous in a way only a Filipino can. It drops on Netflix this March 14.
CHICKEN NUGGET
K-dramas can be your classic love story, and some can just go all out, like this upcoming series involving a chicken nugget. When a mysterious device is mistaken to be for fatigue relief, a woman steps into it and gets turned into a chicken nugget (yes, you read that right). Now, it’s up to her father and admirer to embark on a zany quest to bring her back to her human form. See how this story unfolds when it lands on Netflix this March 15.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH SECRETARY KIM
The Philippines remake of the beloved story of a vice-chairman of a major company who tries to persuade his longtime secretary to not resign is finally here. Starring Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino in their latest project that looks primed to get netizens talking once more, the adaptation lands on Viu this March 18.
EXHUMA
This box-office-breaking Korean film follows a wealthy family who uncover something darker as they try to cast out the paranormal forces in their home. What they thought would be a relief as the hired shamans to perform an exhumation on a grave at a shady location in a remote village in Korea to appease the haunting force, turns out to be just the start of their nightmare. Unaware of the consequences, they unleash a malevolent force buried underneath. Consider our tickets secured. The movie arrives in Philippine cinemas on March 20.
X-MEN ‘97
With the X-Men set to make their imminent debut in the MCU, the hype train for our favorite mutants is real. And it chugs along as the well-loved 90s animated X-Men series is back with X-Men ‘97. Following the events of the original show, the sequel series centers on the surviving X-Men as they are challenged like never before and forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. It streams on Disney+ beginning this March 20.
ROAD HOUSE
This remake of the 1989 movie of the same name stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC fighter who takes up work as a bouncer in Florida, only for the job to lead him down a dangerous path. You can watch this on Prime Video on March 21.
3 BODY PROBLEM
Games of Thrones series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are back on the small screen with their newest show. Across continents and decades, five brilliant friends make earth-shattering discoveries as the laws of science unravel and an existential threat emerges with the arrival of an alien race set to invade Earth. The series streams on Netflix beginning March 21.
GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE
From enemies to besties, Godzilla and King Kong team up against a colossal undiscovered threat. The movie is set to delve further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever. The epic tale roars its way onto cinemas this March 30.
NEW SEASONS
The binging sessions begin with these new seasons coming out this month. Young Royals Season 3 (March 11), Physical 100 Season 2 (March 19).
