2021 had its fair share of breakthroughs from the rise of young musicians likes Zack Tabudlo and Olivia Rodirgo to superstars in the making like Belle Mariano. And 2022 looks to deliver us another batch of up-and-comers ready to make their mark in the industry. While some of these new artists may not be household names just yet, they do show potential to become one and make a name for themselves as ones to watch out for. As we look forward to what this year has in store for the world of acting, music, social media, and everything in between, keep these newcomers on your radar. Who knows, some of them might become your next fave.
ASHTON SALVADOR
Acting runs in the blood of Ashton Salvador. After all, his cousin is Daniel Padilla. And now, he, along with his sister Analain, are ready to make their mark in the industry. Both are already members of Squad Plus and are set to make a big splash this year when they star in iWant TFC’s Bola Bola, JP Habac’s next project that also stars Francine Diaz and BGYO’s Akira.
ADIE
While Adie may have only released a handful of singles in 2021, some of those songs became some of the biggest OPM hits of the year. In particular, Paraluman and Tahanan became playlist and repeat favorites for those looking to get into their feels. 2021 was definitely a breakthrough year for him and it’s clear that Adie knows how to pen an emotional banger. Our hearts may not be 100% ready, but we can’t wait for more songs from Adie. Maybe an EP or LP this 2022?
AERIEL GARCIA
Initially starting out as a freelance model, Aeriel Garcia is now one of the freshest faces in the PH gaming scene. On her FB page, which has more than 400,000 followers, you can catch her stream games like PUBG and COD. And as a signed talent under Tier One, she’s part of a roster of some of the most popular streamers in the country. Not to mention the fact that she is getting married to Pat Sugui and has famous besties like Gabbi Garcia.
ANDI ABAYA
Looking for your next style inspo? Then look no further then Andi Abaya. Initially appearing on our screens as a housemate on PBB, Andi has slowly made a name for herself as a budding style star and lead actress potential. She recently was able to show off her acting skills in Saying Goodbye along with her love team partner Kobie Brown. With fun personality and sense of style, keep an eye out for this one.
ANGELA KEN
Angela Ken is proof that you can go on to achieve bigger and better things with social media. After the demo of her song Ako Naman Muna went viral on TikTok, she got signed to Star Magic and became a regular performer on ASAP. She already has a hit single under her belt and we can’t wait to hear more music from her. She is also set to make her acting debut this year in the anticipated musical series Lyric & Beat where she co-stars with some of the brightest stars of today such as Andrea Brillantes, Seth Fedelin, AC Bonifacio, Darren Espanto, and Jeremy Glinoga.
ANGELINA CRUZ
To some, Angelina Cruz is just known as the eldest daughter of Sunshine Cruz. But the eldest Cruz sister is proving that she is more than just her last name. Already, she has appeared in her fair share of advertisements and magazine covers and will likely appear in more in the future. She had a supporting role in last year’s Love Is Color Blind, which is the highest grossing local movie of 2021. Not bad for her film debut. She is a star in the making and we’re excited to see where her career goes from here. Oh, and she’s also a singer as if she wasn’t talented enough.
ANJI SALVACION
If you’ve been on Twitter in the past few months, then you may have noticed Anji’s name trending seemingly every other day. And that’s for good reason. Initially starting out as a musician, the Siargao native rose to fame thanks to her participation in the recent PBB Kumunity Season 10 celebrity edition. Despite being nominated for eviction six times, she powered through each one and charmed many viewers with her personality and story. She shined in the season and made it all the way to top two alongside Alyssa Valdez. With legions of new fans and a regular spot on ASAP Natin ‘To, Anji has the world in her hands.
ASHLEY DEL MUNDO
Like many of her peers, Ashley Del Mundo got her start by appearing on PBB where she made it far into her season. It was clear that she was a fan favorite and used her newfound fame to jumpstart a career in showbiz. Making her acting debut in He’s Into Her as Khloe, Ashley has so much potential behind her. And she’s a style star in the making that you shouldn’t sleep on.
ARTHUR NERY
Arthur Nery has been in the game since 2019. But it was only in 2021 that many truly recognized what this rising music star had to offer. His single, Pagsamo, became a number one hit and even broke Spotify PH records in the process. With critical and commercial success to his name, Arthur has a big career ahead of him. Fingers crossed that he drops that highly anticipated second album this year.
CHARLIZE RUTH
Charlize Ruth is a content creator who has built a following of over two million strong thanks to her videos that hit close to home for many people. Most of her videos have her recreating mundane life experiences that make us feel like we never had any original event happen in our lives such as her teacher. She’s just so charismatic on her videos, which is no surprise that many brands have gone to tap her. But aside from securing those checks, she also recently made the jump to TV where you can catch her on Quizon CT on Net 25.
CRIZA TAA
While Criza Taa’s time on PBB was short lived, she left an impressionable mark on viewers. So much so that she was able to start a career in acting, which includes appearances in Kadenang Ginto and MMK. But her most memorable role to date is that of Max’s best friend, Naih, in He’s Into Her. With, talent, the looks, a fun yet strong personality, and go-getter attitude, Criza Taa has the makings of a Gen Z star.
DANIELA STRANNER
While the name Daniela Stranner may be new to many, she actually has been active for a while. She was first introduced as part of the Star Magic Circle Batch 2018 alongside stars like Donny Pangilinan and Charlie Dizon. And while some of her batch have already gone on to achieve big things, Daniela’s time has finally come. She made her TV debut in Make It With You, which was sadly cancelled due to COVID-19. But she made her comeback in 2021 as she stared in Cathy Garcia-Molina’s Love at First Stream and snatched a best actress nomination at the 2021 MMFF. The stars are indeed aligning for this young actress.
JC ALCANTARA
JC Alcantara proved he can act in his episode of MMK. And his starring role in Hello Stranger and its movie sequel made us love him even more. 2022 is showing no signs that his momentum is slowing anytime soon. Already, he appeared in the third season of Click Like Share and is set to star in a new project featuring fellow new gen stars like Anthony Jennings, Daniela Stranner, Vivoree, and Kaori Oinuma.
JEREMIAH LISBO
Did someone say future leading man? Because Jeremiah Lisbo has all the potential to become one. The past year and a half proved to be a breakthrough for the FEU graduate as he appeared in Four Sisters Before The Wedding, He’s Into Her, Love At First Stream, and Love Is Color Blind. While often appearing as the third wheel to DonBelle, it’s only a matter of time before Jeremiah gets to shine on his own.
KAIA
As the first in-house P-pop girl group under ShowBT Philippines, KAIA understandably had expectations to meet. But the fact that they are the sister group to SB19, the pressure is on. But so far, it seems that KAIA has been meeting those expectations. With their pre-debut single KAYA, Charlotte, Angela, Sophia, Alexa, Charice, and Joanna proved that they have what it takes to go all the way. 2022 will be interesting to see what else they have to offer.
KAORI OINUMA
Kaori Oinuma has really gone from housemate on PBB Otso to future top-billed actress. The Japanese-Pinay landed 8th overall in her season and then quickly landed a role in 2019’s Parasite Island. But 2021 was her moment as she started in He’s Into Her as Michiko and Love at First Stream as Megumi. With season two of HIH coming this year as well as other projects, Kaori has the potential to make it big. And it also does help that she’s part of two rising love teams.
KD ESTRADA
Prior to his time on PBB, KD Estrada was mostly known as an up-and-coming musician. But his career got a healthy boost during his memorable run on the most recent celebrity edition of PBB. From opening up about his mental health, to his moments with Anji Salvacion, and his friendship with Alexa Ilacad, KD became a favorite. And speaking of Alexa, the two are now part of the breakout love team of 2022 and are set to have their own fancon and show this year. Add to that his role in Bola Bola, the future is bright for this young crooner.
LITZ
The past year saw many P-pop groups make their debut in the music scene, and from it we have our eyes on LITZ for 2022. Technically they haven’t debuted yet, which is why it’s all the more exciting to see their potential. Even though pre-debut single, Natataranta, was a cover of James Reid’s song, they gave it the LITZ twist and imbued it with an edgy flavor. Ashtine, Heart Ryan, Fatima, Bianca, and Yumi all exhibit star potential have delivered stage presence in the past. We have a feeling they’ll be one of the P-pop groups to shake it up this year.
NAIA
With Drag Den PH and Drag Race Philippines set to air in the near future, the local drag scene is finally going to get the spotlight it deserves. Just like how RuPaul’s Drag Race has opened doors for many queens, we have a feeling that quite a few local queens are about to get their much deserved attention. And one drag queen we have on our radar is Naia, who is also Manila Luzon-approved. Aside from serving fierce looks and doing digital drag shows, she also uses her TikTok account for good to dispel fake news and revisionism. Out of drag, he is Brian Black, an artist and budding actor who recently appeared in the series My Delivery Gurl on Cignal Play. He took on the role of young Bingo, the young version of Markki Stroem’s character.
PATRICK QUIROZ
Patrick Quiroz is that kind of all-rounder artist who has the potential to make it big. On the acting front, he’s appeared in shows like A Soldier’s Heart, Hello, Stranger, and most recently, He’s Into Her where he played Hunter. He also has a soulful voice that he’s demonstrated on multiple occasions, including variety shows on TV. And he’s also built himself a strong following on social media with over two million followers on TikTok alone. Patrick is definitely poised for big things in the future.
QUEEN DURA
2021 saw the rise and success of many social media stars. As for who else will join their ranks, TikTok star Queen Dura is on our radar. With over 900,000 followers and 26.8 million likes, Queen Dura is climbing the ranks as a creator to follow. You may have recently come across her viral expressions or her funny videos with a hint of sarcasm. If you’re looking for someone to follow with bundles of personality, Queen Dura should be on your list.
RADSON FLORES
Ever since we first got to know Radson Flores on Starstruck season seven, the young actor has been making all the right moves to become of the It-actors of the next generation. While has appeared on Dear Uge and Pepito Manaloto, 2022 is set to be his biggest yet when he stars as Mark Gordon, the 18-year-old rodeo champion with a unique personality in the anticipated live action adaptation of Voltes V, Voltes V: Legacy. With charming good looks and a winning personality, Radson is one to watch out for.
VXON
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make a debut. VXON, Cornerstone Entertainment’s very first P-pop boy group, immediately landed on the radars of many fans with the release of their debut single, The Beast, in January 2022. The music video screamed high quality and you could tell the production that went into making the video. The boys, meanwhile, showed charm, charisma, and stage presence in the video. C13, Patrick, Franz, Sam, and Vince showed people that they were a group to watch and we’re excited to see what this year has in store for them.
