Being the two biggest networks in the country, GMA and ABS-CBN are often pitted against each other, whether it be in terms of viewers, quality of shows, the caliber of stars, and more. But behind all the longstanding rivalry is the shared goal of furthering the Philippine entertainment industry. 2022 was already an exciting year for local movies and shows and that energy is set to continue with 2023. Already, Maria Clara at Ibarra’s shift to El Filibusterismo has gotten viewers hooked while the premiere of Dirty Linen has the promise of being the new Pinoy drama we were looking for.

But if that wasn’t enough, we’re also getting a historic series as GMA and ABS-CBN made waves on social media on January 23 when they officially announced that they were teaming up for a new series entitled Unbreak My Heart. It’s a groundbreaking show on multiple fronts and will be one of the new shows of the year to watch out for. Here’s what you need to know about this history-making teleserye.

FIRST OF ITS KIND

As previously stated, Unbreak My Heart is unlike any that has come before it because this will be the first time GMA and ABS-CBN will co-produce a show. While collaboration between the two networks has happened before, albeit rarely, no show has seen the combined might of the country’s top entertainment providers until now. Helping bring to life this series its directors Emmanuel Palo and Dolly Dulu. The former is known for helming shows like Doble Kara and The General’s Daughter while the latter is behind Lyric and Beat, The Boy Foretold by the Stars, and Love Beneath The Stars.

A SIR CHIEF AND MAYA REUNION

When you have a historic series like Unbreak My Heart, you need a top-tier cast to front it. So, serving as the lead stars of the show are none other than Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap. The last time these two were in a show together was 2012’s daytime smash Be Careful With My Heart. Given how the series is billed as a romantic drama, we’re more than ready for this Sir Chief and Maya reunion on our TVs. And not to mention that this is yet another achievement for Jodi with her already impressive resume. Rounding out the rest of the cast are Eula Valdez, Nikki Valdez, Maey Bautista, Bianca De Vera, Laurice Guillen, and Will Ashley.

THE MEETING OF THE GARCIAS

Rumors of this show have been swirling for a few months now. But now that it’s finally been confirmed, we know that Joshua Garcia and Gabbi Garcia will be acting opposite each other. Not only will this be the first time these new-gen superstars will be appearing in the same project, but they could very well become a love team depending on how the story goes. Seeing Joshua and Gabbi on screen is exciting enough, but the fact that they’re together, consider us #seated.

HEADING TO STREAMING

Unbreak My Heart is slated for a premiere this 2023 and will air on GMA nationwide. But for those outside the Philippines, don’t fret as the show is also headed to Viu. In particular, 15 territories outside the country will be able to stream the show via Viu, one of the biggest streaming platforms out there in terms of Asian content. Talk about going global.

FILMED IN SWITZERLAND

MORE POWERS

The Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap reunion as well as Joshua Garcia and Gabbi Garcia being in the show may have distracted you from the fact that there will be a lot of powers in the series. Specifically, both actresses who played Amor Powers will be part of Unbreak My Heart; Eula Valdez as the original Amor, and Jodi Sta. Maria as the new Amor in the 2015 remake. A little tidbit that shows the caliber of talent here is immense.
