BTS has consistently broken records left and right for years now, so it’s no surprise that the Guinness World Records included BTS in their Hall of Fame.
When BTS first debuted in 2013, no one expected the boys to be as successful, phenomenal, and influential as they are now. In fact, people just thought that the Bangtan Boys would fall by the wayside in a year or so. But BTS proved their haters wrong and instead became one of the biggest musicians in the world. Along their way to global domination, the group has also broken a whole bag’s full worth of records, 23 to be exact. To honor the group’s achievements, the Guinness World Records not only included the boys in the upcoming 2022 edition of its eponymous book, but also inducted BTS into the prestigious Guinness World Record Hall of Fame. Here are all the 23 world records BTS has officially broken, so far.
BREAKING MUSICAL RECORDS LEFT AND RIGHT
It’s no surprise to learn that many of BTS’s records fall under the music category with over half of their records filed here. BTS truly paved the way as they are the first K-pop group to achieve many things. They are the first K-pop act to reach No.1 on the US albums chart, a feat they achieved with Love Yourself: Tear. They are the first K-pop act to reach No.1 on the US Artist 100 chart, and the first K-pop group to reach the Top 10 on the US singles chart.
Their 2020 Bang Bang Con: The Live concert was so successful that it broke two records; most viewers for a music concert live stream on a bespoke platform and most tickets sold for a live-streamed concert with over 756,000 tickets sold. BTS has the most weeks at No.1 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart and the most daesang (grand prize) awards won at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. BTS also holds the record for the best-selling album in South Korea as MAP OF THE SOUL: 7’s sales have surpassed 4.5 million copies.
They have the most Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards won by a music group at five wins and the most weeks on the US Hot 100 by a K-pop track. BTS also has the most weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart and is the most streamed group on Spotify with over 16.3 billion streams. It’s no surprise then to learn that the boys hold the record for highest annual earnings for a K-Pop band.
KINGS OF SOCIAL MEDIA
BTS and their highly engaged and passionate fans are a dominant force on social media to the point that the group has over five social media-related records. They have the most Twitter engagements (average retweets) for a music group and the most Twitter engagements (average retweets) in general. BTS holds the record for fastest time to reach one million followers on TikTok at 3 hours and 31 minutes. They also have the most followers on Instagram for a music group at 49 million and have the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours with Butter.
BTS’ BUTTER, A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS BREAK
Speaking of Butter, the song’s release and impact were so monumental that it has its own section for the records it has broken. Butter is the most streamed track on Spotify in the first 24 hours with over 11 million plays. The song has the most viewers for the premiere of a music video on YouTube and the most viewers for the premiere of a video on YouTube. Finally, Butter was the most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours and the most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.
