We are a little over halfway through the month of January and already the month has given us many musical bops. To top it all off, the past week also some exciting news such as how SB19 performed in their very first international music festival and that Paramore confirmed to be working on a new album that hues more closely to their original punk rock sound. The week also wasn’t lacking when it came to new music releases. So, we rounded up some of the best new drops that we think you should give a listen.

BLESSED-CURSED – ENHYPEN

ENHYPEN is kicking of their 2022 in style with the release of their repackaged album DIMMENSION : ANSWER. The album comes with all the songs from their previous album, DIMMENSION : DILEMMA, as well as three brand new tracks. Blessed-Cursed serves as the lead comeback single and the boys channel a bit of a bad boy vibe for the track and MV. Though a personal favorite is the B-side Polaroid Love thanks to its catchy and fun sound.

IT’S OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY – ANGELA KEN

Angela Ken had a breakthrough 2021 with the success of her hit single, Ako Naman Muna. And she looks to continue her momentum into 2022 with the release of her latest single, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay. The acoustic driven track showcases Angela’s sweet voice as she sings about it’s okay to not be okay and show vulnerability. It’s okay to not always look perfect 100% of the time. The chill song has a message that many can very much relate to.

LOVE IT WHEN YOU HATE ME – AVRIL LAVIGNE and BLACKBEAR

2022 may just be the year that early 2000s pop punk icons make a comeback. While Paramore hasn’t given a concrete release date for their next project, Avril Lavigne has. She just announced that her latest studio album, Love Sux, is set to drop on February 25 and sees her return to her pop-punk-rock roots. And as a special treat, she dropped a brand new single called Love It When You Hate Me. The song, which is a collab with blackbear, is classic Avril as she shades a former lover.

LAMBING – MATTHAIOS

OPM R&B artist Matthaios is back with new music with the release of his song Lambing. The lighthearted R&B track is about appreciating the company of your special someone and wanting to beside that person and loving their embrace. It’s the kind of song that would be perfect to play when you’re with your special someone. And shoutout to the lyric where he sings about watching K-Dramas or a MCU movie, a very relatable scenario.

KUNG AKO ANG PUMILING TAPUSIN ITO – SPONGE COLA

OPM icon Sponge Cola is back with new music with their new single, Kung Ako Ang Pumiling Tapusin Ito. It is their latest ahead of the release of their upcoming full-length album later this year. Written by Yael Yuzon and Gosh Dilay, the minimalist but punctuated ballad is about the perspective of the one who leaves the relationship. The music video, meanwhile, stars Heaven Peralejo in one of her most interesting roles to date as a deeply conflicted vampire who is ready to leave an unhealthy domestic living situation.

YUMMY YUMMU LOVE – MOMOLAND and NATTI NATASHA

If you’ve been following MOMOLAND’s career in the past few years, then you know that they have gone through their fair share of mismanagement. So, the group finally making their comeback this week is a welcome sight. For their newest English single, Yummy Yummy Love, the girl group combines forces with Dominican singer-songwriter Natti Natasha. Together, the two deliver a fun and catchy pop song about love.

HULING MENSAHE – BANDANG LAPIS

In Bandang Lapis’ new single, Huling Mensahe, the OPM band asks the difficult yet important question, “When can you finally say it’s over?” The alternative and soft rock beats of this song will set the atmosphere for you to dive deep into your thoughts and just let your emotions flow as you ponder the song’s message.

PICTURE MYSELF – STEPHANIE POETRI

Stephanie Poetri revealed that she is going to release a series of musical project throughout the year and her first release of 2022 is the tender Picture Myself. The guitar-driven track sees the young musician deal with separation anxiety from her special someone and how she still pictures the two of them together. Grab the tissues because this song tugs at the heartstrings.

CLICK – LOLA AMOUR and LEANNE & NAARA

Lola Amour and Leanne & Naara unleash their inner 80s action star with their new collab, Click. The track features a smooth, almost jazz-like sound, before reaching its rock crescendo at the end as their voices mix well together.

EVERYTHING – CLAUDIA BARRETTO and BECAUSE

Claudia teams up with Because, who you may know from his viral hit BMW, for their new song Everything. The uplifting, melodic hip-hop track is a chill vibe filled with motivating verses. The track also sees Claudia experiment a bit with her sound by mixing pop and melodic raps together.

ABSENCE OF YOU  – GRENTPEREZ

grentperez is back with the next instalment of swooning bedroom pop with the release of his new song Absence of You. The song is based from a love lost and is about finding your worth post-heartbreak. It’s a comforting pick me up for anyone who’s navigating heartache.

I THINK I WANNA TEXT YOU – VAULTBOY

Viral artist vaultboy just dropped his debut EP simply called vaultboy EP. The five-track body of work includes his past releases such as the viral hit everything sucks as well as two new tracks like i think i wanna text you which is a reflective and tender response to missing someone. The album is a showcase of vaultboy’s ability to create irresistibly catchy alt-pop that you want to play on repeat.

DIFFERENT SHADE OF BLUE – PAOLO SANDEJAS

2022 has so far started off with a resounding meh, so why not listen to some tunes to help you keep your spirits up? Paolo Sandejas has just the right song for you with his brand new release, Different Shade Of Blue. The sweet and lighthearted track is a touching love song about realizing how special that certain someone is to you. Just like the song title, this is the kind of track that is best enjoyed while starring at the clear blue sky.

OVERTURN – DUDS and MILO HERALDO

DUDS has partnered with Milo Heraldo for a new song called Overturn. With DUDS on production and Milo on vocals, the track is a reflection of trying to save a strained relationship.
