BYS Sports-Fix Foundation Stick – Maggie Batacan, Editor-in-Chief

This is so easy to slap on when I’m in a hurry. It melts into my skin perfectly and provides natural coverage. I can just blend it onto my face with my fingers and it feels so lightweight. It doesn’t get cakey at all even after wearing it for a full work day. It’s everything I could ever ask for in a base product.

Dasique Juicy Dewy Lip Tint – Jasmin Dasigan, Production Associate

I’m obsessed with the Dasique Juicy Dewy Lip Tint. It’s incredibly light, smooth, and glossy, making it a dream to wear. Unlike some lip tints that can leave your lips feeling dry, this one keeps them hydrated and comfortable all day long. Plus, the color payoff is impressive—the tint lasts for a great period of time without needing constant touch-ups! If you’re looking for a lip product that combines comfort and longevity, this is definitely a must-try!

DAZZLE ME Better Than Filter Maxnificent Essence Cushion – Precy Tan, Copywriter

I absolutely love the DAZZLE ME Better Than Filter Maxnificent Essence Cushion! As much as I appreciate my other foundations, I always find myself reaching for this one because it’s the only foundation that feels like a second skin. The shade match is perfect—it’s like I’m applying nothing at all! It seamlessly blends into my complexion, enhancing my natural beauty rather than masking it.

Not to mention, it gives my skin a gorgeous, radiant finish that lasts all day without feeling heavy or cakey. Whether I’m going for a no-makeup look or need something more polished, this cushion is my go-to.

GLAMWORKS Hair Removal Cold Wax Kit Aloe and Vit. E – Jhez Roxas, Art Intern

I really enjoyed using the GLAMWORKS Hair Removal Cold Wax Kit Aloe and Vit. E because it’s easy to apply and gentle on the skin. It effectively removes hair without causing irritation, and I appreciate how smooth and soft my skin feels afterward. Plus, it’s mess-free and doesn’t require any heating, making the process quick and convenient.

GRWM Cosmetics Brow Pen Pro – Nica Glorioso, Features Writer

With it’s thinner-than-an-eyeliner tip, the GRWM Cosmetics Brow Pen Pro allows you to fill in your brows so easily and incredibly precisely. Whether you want thicker brows or thinner, defined ones, this pen’s got you. It also doesn’t budge!

ISSY Mousse Lip Tint – Nica Glorioso, Features Writer

The ISSY Mousse Lip Tint is my new favorite everyday matte lippie. It has a really nice, lightweight, velvety formula that blurs and stains the lips so well. It’s comfortable to wear, easy to blend, and even makes your lips look slightly more plump!

L’Oréal Studio Line Style Rework Remix Fibre-Putty – Rod Lopez, Art Intern

I’m currently into the L’Oréal Studio Line Style Rework Remix Fibre-Putty because it doesn’t trigger dandruff like other brands. It’s also easy to rinse out, leaving my hair looking shiny and healthy. Additionally, it provides long-lasting hold, making it a superior choice compared to other products.

NIVEA Invisible For Black & White Anti-Perspirant Spray – Raf Bautista, Managing Editor

It’s a simple, no-fuss deodorant I can always count on no matter what I’m doing for the day.

Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment – Gelo Quijencio, Multimedia Artist

Ole Henriksen’s Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment is an absolute gem! The combination of its nourishing ingredients and that smooth, hydrating feel makes it irresistibly appealing. It keeps my lips feeling soft and supple without any stickiness, which is a huge plus.

The hint of a fresh, natural scent adds a delightful touch that makes application feel like a treat. Whether you’re wearing it alone or under lipstick, this lip treatment is a must-have for anyone looking to keep their lips looking and feeling their best!

Romand Gift Bar – Bianca Lao, Brand Associate

If you’re a fan of K-Beauty, then you definitely know about Romand, the staple K-Beauty brand that has brought us iconic lippies (shoutout to the Juicy Lasting Tint) and my personal favorite, their Better Than Cheek blushes.

In case you didn’t know bestie, Romand recently opened a few kiosks in the Philippines and took this to a whole new level with their Romand Gift Bar. I went to the one in SM Makati and created a gift bag for myself with all my favorite Romand goodies.

For anyone looking to do something special for their fellow K-Beauty lovers this Christmas, I definitely recommend the experience at the Romand Gift Bar to craft your own Romand Gift kit with the cutest designs for cards and bags.

Tocobo Vita Glazed Lip Mask – Kristiel Andrade, Marketing Intern

This Tocobo Vita Glazed Lip Mask makes my lips so soft. People say it’s a dupe for the Laneige lip mask, but I actually liked this better. Very cutesy packaging and it comes with an applicator. This is from a Korean skincare brand, I use this as a lip sleeping mask or a lip topper since it’s also high shine. Long lasting and smells good!

Vice Cosmetics Lip Frescas – Precy Tan, Copywriter

I absolutely love the Vice Cosmetics Lip Frescas! I’m not usually a fan of lip oils, but the Perfect Kizz Hydrating Lip Oil became an instant fave. It’s lightweight and not sticky, making it super comfy to wear. I apply it before my makeup routine to keep my lips hydrated and ready for lipstick.

Each shade also comes with a delightful scent, and my favorite has to be Milkshake Yam. If you’re looking for a lip product that feels fresh and fun without any heaviness, this is a must-try! Your lips will totally thank you.

Y.O.U Cloud Touch Blurring Skin Tint – Bernice Ignacio, Art Intern

One thing I absolutely can’t leave out of my makeup routine is the Y.O.U Cloud Touch Blurring Skin Tint. As an acne-prone girlie, this one is not only lightweight but also gentle on my skin. Plus, the best thing about it is the “blurring” effect it leaves, ensuring I’m always camera-ready for any occasion!

Feeling Lost? Here Are 6 Films To Help You Survive Your Quarter Life Crisis

Taking things one step at a time.

How can a person know everything at 18, but nothing at 22?

Related: 10 Movies And Shows To Watch When You Need To Let Out A Good Cry

Stepping into the real world and leaving the bubble of youth can be jarring, to say the least. The jump from being a student to a full-on adult can leave even the best of us lost among the chaos and the cacophony of the world out there, leaving us little time to figure out who we really want to be, or what we really want to do. Believe me, once you leave the security of being in school, chances are you will find yourself questioning what it is you are doing and whether it is worth doing at all.

In these trying times, all we want to do is seek guidance. Whether it is from the older, more well-rounded adults in our lives or from characters in movies who will offer us solace and make us feel seen, don’t be afraid to take a breather and slow down. Sometimes all we need are comforting words and validation that we are doing just fine.

If you are in your 20s and feeling lost, here are some movies that may help you find yourself.

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD (2021)

If you have ever felt like, well, the worst person in the world, this movie’s for you. You may even see yourself in the main character, Julie (Renate Reinsve.) Now in her late 20s, Julie still has yet to find her true passion. She has studied psychology, and photography, worked at a bookstore, and even begun writing. Currently in a relationship with a man 15 years older, Julie begins to question her path in life.

Directed by Joachim Trier, this Norwegian film will have every 20-something out there breathe a sigh of relief. Many of us have changed courses, careers, doubted the people in our lives, and it leaves us with a bitter taste in our tongues, unsure where our decisions will lead us. This movie is a representation of a chaotic period and will give (some) answers to your burning questions.

LITTLE WOMEN (2019)

Can’t believe childhood is over? Grab some popcorn and watch Greta Gerwig’s masterpiece about facing the realities of growing older. Witness four sisters, Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Amy (Florence Pugh), Meg (Emma Watson), and Beth (Eliza Scanlen) find their own paths in life in 19th-century America. Defined by the warmth of their childhoods, the four sisters go on their separate ways as adults, each choosing a different path.

If you haven’t seen it already, watching Gerwig’s star-studded film will feel like eating warm soup and being wrapped in a blanket on a cold day. While Western in nature, this movie can feel close to us as it faces the all-too-Filipino experience of growing up in a big family and having to face many differences in one household, and how it can lead to us taking them for granted once we leave home behind.

ALONE/TOGETHER (2019)

Enter Christine, an art student from the University of the Philippines, and Raf, a science major from the University of Santo Tomas. Doe-eyed and optimistic, the Iska and Thomasian couple plan their futures with each other. That is, until their abrupt breakup. When they meet again five years later, their lives are unrecognizable.

Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, Alone/Together sees how the realities of life after graduation can wreak havoc on even the most idealistic and optimistic people. A cautionary tale on being too afraid to speak up, Christine and Raf’s lives are derailed when one of them enters the workforce and something goes awry. Watch this movie for some harsh reality checks, and a much-needed reminder that it is always okay to ask for help.

FRANCES HA (2012)

Following your dreams can often lead to some rough roads. Frances Ha sees Frances (Greta Gerwig), a 27-year-old woman in New York who struggles as she tries to pursue dancing as a career. Facing a housing dilemma and a fracturing relationship with her best friend Sophie (Mickey Summer), Frances is a spitting image of every 20-something out there who has to sacrifice the quality of their life in pursuit of their dreams.

Directed by Gerwig’s husband Noah Baumbach, this masterpiece will bring color and perspective to those who need it, even with its black-and-white aesthetic.

BAR BOYS (2017)

Bar Boys, directed by Kip Oebanda, tells the story of four friends who want to enter the world of law. Three of them, Christian (Enzo Pineda), Erik (Carlo Aquino), and Toran (Rocco Nacino) pass the law school entrance exam while Joshua (Kian Cipriano) flunks and decides to pursue acting instead.

An odyssey of failure and successes, Bar Boys is a reminder to dreamers out there that the hike to the peak is often treacherous, but the view will be worth it.

COLUMBUS (2017)

Stopping doesn’t mean quitting. Kogonada’s Columbus is a quiet rumination on architecture, life and death, and keeping the journey going despite setbacks. Starring Haley Lu Richardson and John Cho, Columbus will speak to 20-somethings whose journeys have been halted or derailed due to forces out of their control.

Featuring stunning architectural feats in Columbus, Indiana, and thought-provoking conversations, this movie will piece your broken pieces back together, and get you on your feet by its end.

BONUS: NORMAL PEOPLE (2020)

Adapted from Sally Rooney’s book of the same name, Normal People sees Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal) attempt to find themselves as they weave in and out of each other’s lives through the years. Though it isn’t a movie, the way it tells its story makes it worthy of this list.

The 12-episode run of this mini-series unfolds the journeys of Marianne and Connell who go from reserved high school students to established college graduates. A lot of people connected to these two characters, especially during their college years, and how complicated it can be to know what it is you truly want and what you deserve. But it tells us that the journey keeps going, and we also keep learning from it.

How Maki Is Taking Over OPM, One Color At A Time

line
💛 ❤️

With his distinct Gen Z energy, hit songs, and undeniable talent, get a peek into Maki’s colorful mind.

Related: How Maki Turned Dilaw Into The Unexpected Self-Love Anthem Of The Year

“Colorful”. That’s how Maki would appropriately describe OPM in 2024. And he isn’t wrong. 2024, so far, has been another strong year for OPM, especially with the genre’s performance on Spotify. From smash hits to breakthroughs, the year had its fair share of memorable moments. And helping lead that charge is Maki. He proved himself to be no one-hit wonder as he built off the success of Saan? to be one of the most successful OPM acts on Spotify this year.

And aside from his growing stable of earworms, Maki established himself as a creative Gen Z force to stay with how he brought a fresh, distinct, and exciting energy to the scene. Maki has secured that rising star bag. It’s no wonder how, if given only three words to describe his 2024, he goes with a phrase we’d all heard before, but one that has made meaning to so many people. “Ikaw ay Dilaw.”

A CREATIVE THROUGH AND THROUGH

To know Maki is to know that he’s an artist who knows what he wants to do with his craft. Like any great creative, Maki has a unique pov you’ll only get from the Gen Z artist. It’s one of the key factors in why Maki has endeared himself to his fans (fondly called Zushis) given how much personality he puts in his music and craft in general.

Fittingly enough for a Gen Z like Maki, his flair is rooted in his love of nostalgia. “Maybe it’s because of my outlook in life and siguro nabibigay ko yung nostalgia sa songs since I really love yung mga 90s stuff,” says Maki in an interview with NYLON Manila, “Nagreresonate din yung personality ko sa music, which I love.”

MAKI

Even outside of his music, Maki’s self-expression never fails to resonate, from his looks that include his keychains, toys, and other anik-anik that have become the signature Maki ‘fit to the art he creates, and more. And when it comes to the foundation of the Maki print, like the creative that he is, he credits his love of movies. “Kasi ako, sobrang film enthusiast talaga ako ever since bata ako. I think marami akong influence sa mga plot, even sa music videos, kasi dati dream ko talaga maging director din. So, nag-aral din ako ng scriptwriting, different forms of theatre, ang dami kong inaral na may kinalaman sa storytelling and creating something out of nothing.”

Maki’s inner cinephile still jumps even if he’s on to a different career path, and we’re all the better for it. “I think yun yung pinaka nagbibigay ng uniqueness, nagbibigay ng edge, sa mga bagay na ginagawa ko and my perspective in life. I think dahil yun sa immersive experiences sa mga bagay na love ko, and patuloy ko parin siya ginagawa. Ayokong nawawala yung spark ko sa mga ganun. Kaya hanggang ngayon, patuloy ko parin siya ginagawa kahit iba na yung hobbies ko, iba na yung schedule ko.”

Maki’s creativity never fails, but, as a young artist who’s been conquering the charts with hit after hit, the inevitable give-and-take between giving what the people want and being creatively curious rears its head. To that, Maki welcomes the shift. “I always tell my friends and supporters that we all grow up, as much as we don’t want to, may changes talaga na mangyayari but and sinasabi ko sa kanila, dapat kasama nila ako sa mga changes na yan.” For Maki, while balance doesn’t necessarily come easy for him, he does see it as an opportunity to authentically explore his craft.

“It’s something na hindi dapat pilitin but it should come naturally, kasi magreresonate yun sa mga tao, mafefeel nila yun eh. So ako, I just write what I want first, and then I think of what people want from me, and kung ano yung current state ng mundo, ng listeners or audience ko, then titingnan ko yung current state ko, and then I’ll combine it in the most natural way possible na kaya kong i-portray through music and visual art.”

ON OUR RADAR

If Maki was known as just the guy behind Saan?, or, for the OGs, his K-pop covers on TikTok, the past year has been nothing but W after W for the young artist. Dilaw was the definition of a smash hit that continues to rake in the streams. He’s one of OPM’s biggest success stories of the year, and as it should be, which got a boost after Spotify partnered with Maki to give him a platform on the streaming service.

“Yun yung gusto kong maexpress na isa sa mga pinakamalaki kong achievement in life,” gushes Maki on Spotify recognizing him as an artist on the rise. “From a big platform ng music in general, isa sila sa mga malaking platforms talaga na nagpapalaganap ng OPM. It’s a huge validation for me to be chosen as one of the RADAR Class of 2024 and I hope that they continue to support me all throughout kahit 2030 na, 2100. It’s very thrilling to see na someone has your back in this industry.”

MAKI SPOTIFY

Since Spotify first launched in the Philippines in 2014, the streaming platform has been changing how Filipinos listen to, enjoy, and live with music. And what makes it even better is how Spotify Philippines has been a consistent champion of promoting local artists not just to Filipinos, but worldwide. And the numbers speak for themselves.

Spotify’s Philippines’ Top 50 chart now comprises 75% local tracks. Pinoy Hip-Hop has seen a massive 600% increase in global daily streams over the past five years. Meanwhile, P-pop, experienced a 138% year-on-year increase in streams on Spotify in the past year alone. To celebrate its 10th anniversary in the country, Spotify held its first-ever Spotify Lounge in the Philippines, which brought together the who’s who in OPM, and included live performances from Maki, Ben&Ben, and Illest Morena.

MAKI DILAW

With Spotify’s support, Maki has definitely had a great year. But now that he’s seen as one of the hitmakers of the new generation, does he feel the pressure? “Alam niyo ako, I don’t really like thinking about yung big things,” he confidently asserts. Pressure will always be there, Maki says, but it’s how you respond to it that speaks to who you are.

“Whatever the world gives you, ano yung response mo dun—dun lagi nagmamatter. And for me, yung response ko sa mga ganyang bagay is I don’t think about it too much. I just do what I have to do. I maintain peace of mind. Lagi kong tinatry na may peace of mind ako sa music kasi music ang pinaka love ko sa mundo. Ayoko naman kainin ako ng sistema na parang ‘music music ka, si Maki ay ganito, si Maki ay ganyan.’ Ang pangit naman isipin na ganun. Mas tumitingin lang ako sa perspective na I love what I’m doing and I should enjoy it at the moment. Yun yung pinaka nagmamatter sakin ngayon.”

GEN Z CORE

With that confidence and self-assuredness, Maki knows what he’s doing, and, more importantly, is helping hero Gen Z in OPM. From the rise of P-pop groups whose members are predominantly composed of Gen Z to the popularity of young artists like Maki, Filipino Gen Z are asserting themselves in not only how OPM can sound and look, but also how it is consumed. “Malaking bagay kasi we have a platform that we could promote very easily,” he states.

“Napakalaking platform na binigay samin to be able to speak about the things na hindi na lagi napag-uusapan. Nilalagay namin siya through music and I’m really honored na I get to be one of the people na nagpapalaganap ng ganung music especially sa OPM industry. Lahat kasi kami as an artist, iba-ibang principles in life and the things na we want to fight for.”

MAKI INTERVIEW

While acknowledging the work the previous generations did in laying the foundations for what OPM is today, Maki is excited about what new upcoming eras of Pinoy music have to offer, especially with Gen Z and their boundless bravery at the forefront.

As he puts it, “Siguro hindi na tayo takot sa self-expression. Kasi mas marami nang nakakaintindi. Kumbaga, it’s all in the app. Nandito na lahat. nakalabas na all the topics na gusto natin pag-usapan dati pero hindi natin mapag-usapan because it’s hard to talk about it. But now, we get to share each other’s platform sa mga taong may similar experiences and principles. We get to collaborate and bring it to the table which I really love sa generation namin ngayon sa Gen Z. Yung fearlessness to be yourself and talk about things we don’t always talk about.”

It’s this kind of thinking that leads to songs like Dilaw, which on the surface sounds like a love song but was actually penned as a self-love anthem on being kinder to yourself after Maki realized he needed to love himself more to love other people.

ON THE UP AND UP

Don’t get it twisted, OPM has been thriving. But these past couple of years have seen the genre reach new heights. Yes, we will always have our foreign acts, but OPM is OPM, and it still hits different. Even listeners outside the Philippines have been getting the memo. Maki can attest to this, with how his music has reached the four corners of the world and has made fans of international artists, with K-pop group ZEROBASEONE covering Dilaw and Maki singing the song on stage at the Philippine Arena with LANY just to name a few.

MAKI SPOTIFY RADAR

And as for those who still avoid OPM, to each their own. But Maki wants you to know there’s no need to shade genres in this club. “My music is not your music. If you don’t like it, okay lang. Di mo naman kailangan pakinggan; Di mo kailangan i-degrade. Simple as that. If you don’t like OPM, hindi ka naman pinipilit; di mo naman kailangan i-discrimnate. Sobrang ganda ng mga songs na lumalabas especially sa OPM and hindi lang tayo nakikinig, halos buong mundo na. Filipinos get to see na hindi natin kailangan na mag-speak ng kahit anong language. We can thrive, we can push, we can promote using our own.”

So, where does OPM go from here? Maki dreams big, and with the success he has, he might as well achieve it next year. “Well kasi ngayon, Koreans nagpeperform na sila sa mga international stages. Why not tayo naman. Kaya natin yan. I think after 10 years, makakarating tayo diyan. Kahit next year. Gusto niyo pa next year na eh.” We have out fingers crossed, Maki.

Do We Miss Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows?

line
Victoria... still has a secret.

The angels have their wings back. But was it worth it?

Related: 5 Beauty Brands With An Advocacy Worth Supporting

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is the rose-coloured glasses personified. It was literally a very pink showcase of the American dream. At the peak of the Y2K scene, to watch the utter glitz and glamor of VS fashion shows meant not only a celebration of gorgeous lingerie, but also an ode to talented creatives in all fronts: from pop stars, theater-esque production, to intricate craftsmanship that birthed the beloved angel wings. Victoria’s Secret sure knows how to sell sexy.

To tune in on the faces of Victoria’s Secret models, or fondly called the VS Angels, was considered a badge of womanly honor. With legends that include Giselle Bundchen, Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, and so much more, it was a core memory for certain girls in the 2000’s to see these models’ do their thing in silky pink robes and bodacious hair.

But remove the pink sunglasses, and we see that it’s no longer the 2000’s. It’s the dawn of the 2020s and everything has changed. Was bringing the show back successful at wrapping up the girly bombshell that it was before?

PINK DREAMS

Victoria’s Secret intimate apparel lived up to its lavishness. Acquiring over 12 billion dollars and over 900 retail stores since its first shop in San Francisco opened its magic in 1977, Victoria’s Secret was a catalyst for mainstreaming the grandeur of lingerie. Over time, the brand became a beauty staple; the release of their perfume line (we all know the iconic Bare Vanilla body spray) and eventually makeup, solidified their position further as a company that enhances the feminine essence– so you look sexy, smell divine, and just feel good

But it was not until in 1995 that the first ever VS fashion show happened, and to tell you the truth, it was actually on the demure side at its debut— picture cool lighting, classical music, models adorned in lilac silk sleepwear, with the Victoria’s Secret font in Times New Roman, it was anything but circusy.

It was in the 2000’s or in the pink glam of Y2K that Victoria’s Secret became what it is today. In fact, it won’t be an overstatement to say that its rise brought forth a new model standard, away from the ashy contours of heroin chic and onto the pink gloss of VS bombshells. The central allure of Victoria’s Secret was of course, being sexy, so ample double C’s, having flat abs, and being an overall conventionally attractive Brazilian bombshell or Slavic doll was all the rage– but that’s not so inclusive, isn’t it?

BOMBSHELL POP

Behind the glamor and messaging on what it means to be an ideal woman, Victoria’s Secret has had many flaws and mistakes over the years. And one of the most poignant ways this was revealed was in a mini series in 2022. A detailed and brutally honest documentary entitled Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons exposed their inner evil. Amid the applause for all things beautiful, the documentary peels back the curtain and exposed the unhealthy practices that helped build its empire.

Angels and Demons confronts the ways in which Victoria’s Secret fostered an image that encouraged extreme diets which can eventually lead to the promotion of unattainable beauty standards for impressionable young women. Such practices weren’t just industry norms but were meticulously orchestrated to maintain a look that aligned with the miracle fantasy, often leading to the detriment of the very people embodying it.

This standard wasn’t just about looking a certain way; it was shaped to appeal to the male gaze, a term referring to the way women are often presented through a lens prioritizing male desires. Victoria’s Secret didn’t simply celebrate beauty, it narrowed it down to a Westernized ideal. Once defined, this standard became a catalyst for babying the male gaze, perpetuating a culture of women that is fueled by toxic beauty ideals, injecting most women with body insecurities, and therefore, becoming vulnerable consumers of their products. Because it seemed we’re led to believe, how exactly can others fit in the fantasy bra these models pose and wink in?

So even though Victoria’s Secret is a brand for women, it’s not really made by women. The documentary also raises allegations of exploitation happening beneath the glitter, with Les Wexner, the brand’s former CEO, allegedly overlooking abuse happening within the company due to his close association with Jeffrey Epstein. This discussion floating around doesn’t necessarily help Victoria’s Secret and instead is seen as affirmation on the flawed and scary side of the brand’s identity as a whole. Not only were the shows over, but the fantasy was all but demystified. But Victoria’s Secret wasn’t done and they’d soon come back with a new image, new advocacy, and a new fashion show.

AN ANGEL’S PITALL

Victoria’s Secret started facing a significant decline in sales from 2019, as its growth was not only stunted because of the COVID-19 pandemic but also because of the poor viewership and controversies that forced them to stop hosting their annual fashion shows. Whether it was the shift towards body positivity that steered their original customer base away, the lack of diversity, or harassment allegations, these were just a combination of factors that ultimately forced an already wounded Victoria Secret into a five year hiatus.

So now, the show’s much-awaited return in 2024 was undoubtedly a new sight, one that looked to combine the nostalgia of yesteryears with the new mission of the brand’s modern iteration. But the result was a mixed bag.

In comparison to their previous fashion shows, the 2024 one didn’t have an elevated stage, so the models walked in the same level as the audience. As per the designs, they were, for the lack of a better word, boring– often using the same color scheme of baby pink, deep red, and black and their wings were small in amount. Despite the countless icons included in the show, they didn’t present the same vivaciousness VS Angels were known for: the cheeky winks, the drawing of hearts, and blowing a kiss after they pose for the camera, were all absent. The camp was gone. Instead, they composed a face of little to no expression.

So why exactly did the 2024 fashion show not hit the same anymore all boils down to one thing; poor understanding of inclusivity. Various internet observations state that it was kind of corny, almost sad to see them cling onto its glory from fifteen years ago and yet produce below expectations– from lackluster designs to unflattering cuts for their models. Despite the commendable addition of plus-sized and LGBTQIA+ models, it just didn’t feel the same because there was less emphasis on their new models’ charm and they were instead felt merely as elements to pipe the smoke, thrown there as a damage control solution.

Unlike before where the Victoria’s Secret YouTube channel would produce cutesy videos like “What Kind of Angel Are You?” and other promotional gimmicks, there was none of that today that featured their new advocacy. The absence of intimate details present in order to rebuild and reconnect their influence for avid lovers of modeling culture was a missed opportunity, because at its core, we all know the modeling industry has been rightfully scrutinized, time and time again.

So has it lived up to its glory in 2024? Technically, it was able to push through– nostalgic faces were there together with recurring it girls like the Hadid sisters, and Tyla, Lisa, and Chappell Roan hits playing in the background. The criticism Victoria’s Secret also comes face to face with does not mean a complete denial of the meticulous art that was behind its success. But in consideration of all things mentioned above, the pink dream of the Victoria’s Secret brand may downgrade and become a niche, subcategory of feminine culture, and not its fantasy anymore.

The powerful combo that was The Fat Kid Inside Studios founding father and TikTok’s Lumpia Queen showed participants how to elevate their food diaries with tips on indoor lighting, creative plating, and highlighting texture and color of dishes. Held at Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant, creators learned how to elevate their food shots to restaurant-quality levels.

Jessica Lee at the Sony Creator's Fest

An exciting refresher for the day was the live cocktail flaring at Hikaru Bar. More than a fun activity to keep the energy flowing, the session served as the perfect opportunity for YouTuber Jessica Lee to demonstrate how to capture fast-moving objects for dynamic and dramatic results.

Anjohn Sorza at the Sony Creator's Fest

Travels, trips, and vacays are moments to cherish forever. There to showcase how best to capture the story through photography was content creator Anjohn Sozra. In collaboration with Herschel, attendees were taught how to work with natural light, interesting architecture, and human subjects for compelling travel content.

Janina Manipol and Marco Gallo at the Sony Creator's Fest

Fashion can be the ultimate expression of personal style. Filmmaker Janina Manipol and Actor Marco Gallo teamed up to show participants how to level up their fashion photography to editorial status even outside a professional studio. Powered by Aputure PH, the duo showed how soft, outdoor lighting can really capture the unique identities of any garment.

Serving as the final course of the day, digital creator Jaz Reyes partnered with Ellana Cosmetics to share her beauty photography secrets to the audience of budding creators. With an emphasis on light and shadow and texture, guests learned how to take powerful product shots that can stop people from scrolling.

All in all, participants got their fill of skills and techniques from some of the biggest content creators of the day, empowering them as the next generation of creatives. And we’re looking forward to seeing how all that plays out.

In a world of ever-expanding skincare routines, Maxi’s Cleanser + Toner hybrids bring simplicity without sacrificing results.

There’s something unmistakably satisfying about a clear, fresh, and cared-for face. Yet, let’s face it—keeping up with a routine stacked with products can easily feel like a marathon rather than a relaxing ritual. With cleansers, toners, and targeted treatments for every concern, skincare can quickly become complicated. But imagine this: a single product that multitasks, tackling multiple skin concerns without the endless steps. Tempting, isn’t it?

That’s where Maxi’s streamlined skincare line steps in. Their Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Pimple Clearing and Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Whitening offer a refreshing no-fuss approach, combining the benefits of a cleanser and toner in one, while harnessing the powerhouse duo of Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide. From clearing breakouts to helping moisturize and minimize the appearance of pores, here’s why these multitasking wonders have captured the spotlight.

Introducing Skin-Clearing Ingredients: Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide

What sets these Maxi products apart? It’s all in the potent blend of two dermatologist-approved ingredients that deliver real results. Salicylic Acid—a celebrated BHA (beta hydroxy acid)—delves deep into the pores, effectively clearing out excess oil and warding off future breakouts. Known for its dual action, it not only tackles pimples but also regulates sebum production, ensuring your skin stays balanced and free from unwanted shine.

Meanwhile, Niacinamide emerges as the skincare multitasker everyone needs. This ingredient brightens and repairs, making it a go-to for fading dark spots and evening out skin tone. It also fortifies the skin barrier, enhancing moisture retention for a plump, hydrated complexion.

Ideal for those grappling with blemishes, discoloration, or dryness, the Maxi Cleanser + Toner Pimple Clearing and Maxi Cleanser + Toner Whitening work gently to smoothen and nourish the skin. With Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide at the helm, these products prove that popular doesn’t mean ordinary; they redefine what your skincare routine can achieve.

Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Pimple Clearing: Fast-Acting Formula for Breakouts

The Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Pimple Clearing is crafted with one clear purpose in mind: to help make clear, smooth, pimple-free, and blemish-free skin an accessible reality. Perfect for those who want effective results without fuss, this two-in-one formula combines a cleanser and toner that seamlessly fits into even the busiest routines.

At the heart of this formula lies a 1% concentration of Salicylic Acid—a trusted ingredient in skincare for its ability to dive deep into pores, dissolve impurities, and help keep breakouts at bay. Designed to both treat and prevent pimples, this powerful BHA goes beyond surface-level care. It targets excess oil production to support shine-free skin, while also working to fade dark spots from previous breakouts. The result? Clearer skin that feels as good as it looks.

Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Whitening: Your Shortcut to Bright, Even-Toned Skin

For anyone seeking a streamlined approach to skincare with a brightening boost, the Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Whitening is a breath of fresh air. This thoughtful formula combines a cleanser plus a toner to help remove impurities, leaving skin feeling refreshed, moisturized, and noticeably more clear.

The star of the show here is a 2% Niacinamide concentration. This ingredient is well-known in skincare circles for its ability to reduce redness and dark spots. Niacinamide, often referred to as Vitamin B3, is a multitasker that supports the skin barrier, helping it lock in moisture and defend against environmental stressors. This ingredient brings a host of benefits that go beyond the surface: it hydrates, soothes, and helps create an even-toned complexion with a radiant glow.

@kevinnkylee You'll never get rid of blackheads if hindi mo alam ang salicylic acid! 1 Month of using @maxi Pimple Clearing 2 in one cleanser plus toner. This product helped me to combat my blackheads and pimples for clearer skin! #maxiclearskin #maxiph #maxiskincare ♬ Vlog ・ Stylish city pop(1275391) – orino

Both the Maxi 2-in-1 Cleanser + Toner Pimple Clearing and Maxi Cleanser + Toner Whitening are available in two sizes—75mL for Php 36.00 and 135mL for Php 60.00. These pocket-friendly powerhouses deliver high-performance solutions without breaking the bank, making them must-haves for anyone looking to simplify their skincare routine without sacrificing results.

Test Your Friendships With These 12 Roblox Games

Game on. 👾

Are you a fan of friendship-breaking online games? Well, have we got a list of beginner-friendly Roblox games for you.

Related: 5 Star Slay: A Beginner’s Guide To Dress To Impress On Roblox

Yelling at your friends might not sound like a great time for some people, but yelling because of a game is a friendship milestone that only makes your bond stronger. There are plenty of games that earn titles such as “Nakakasira ng Friendship,” and losing your patience at each other during these games is part of the fun of it—trust us.

From co-op obstacle courses (or “obby/obbies“, in Roblox terms) games to reality show-style competitions, below is a list of Roblox games you can play with your friends. Don’t worry, as all these games are pretty easy to get the hang of. We can’t promise easy success on all of them, though! Whether you want to have a “brain break” from studying or working, or spend weekends on call and on Roblox with your friends (yelling and blame gaming part of the package), these games will provide you loads of fun.

TOGETHER

@tazeegp wag na magtogether #roblox #robloxfyp #robloxmemes #together ♬ QKThr – Aphex Twin

This co-op game requires teamwork, coordination, timing, and listening skills. In Together, with 2-8 people, you navigate levels of obstacles ranging from lava walls to aircraft that needs two people to navigate different controls.

All players have to get through the door to advance to the next level, and if one player dies (for instance, by touching the lava floor), all players have to start from the beginning of the level. It’s a true test of friendship—especially when there’s that one friend that just keeps messing everything up. You can even see how many times a player has died every level, so play the blame game—or don’t!

BREAK IN 1 & 2

In Break In 1, you and a bunch of other people try to survive The Purge as masked Purgers break into your shared “house” and attack everybody there. You can choose to be a Defender with a bat or a Healer with a Med Kit you can use to heal others, and you have to do your best to stay alive until the very end, where leader Scary Larry tries his best to defeat you.

This game has a sequel as well, Break In 2, which is also a survival game wherein you train at a base to be stronger and faster so as to survive waves of minions attacking you and defeat the villainous leaders Scary Mary and Scary Larry.

ELIMINATION TOWER

You play as an individual player in Elimination Tower, but you can face off or work together with your friends when it comes to the voting-out portion of the game. In this Roblox experience, you play to get through several challenges, like obbies to speed games, and try to be the first to complete the challenge to earn immunity from elimination. Players nominated for elimination have to fight it out in another challenge, and the loser is ejected from the tower.

TELEPATHY

You might know it as Telepathy, or you might know it as Tumpakners. Telepathy on Roblox sees you and other players sit around a table, coming up with a word under the category given. All players have to come up with the same word, and you will be given several chances to get there if your answers aren’t the same. It’s so simple, but it’s not that easy to get through!

TOTAL ROBLOX DRAMA

You ever dream of becoming a reality TV show star? Well, here’s your chance. Total Roblox Drama, based off of the series Total Drama Island, is a game to be played by being charming or cunning (the obby and strategy skills are also needed). With teams (but still playing for yourself), you play as a character and compete at a bunch of challenges and try to make sure you’re not eliminated so you can win the grand prize.

OUTLASTER

Similar to Elimination Tower and Total Roblox Drama, Outlaster is a game where you try to come out on top, competing in competitions and challenges against other players. If you do well at the obbies, you can form alliances or manipulate other players to heed your word—outlast everybody, friend or foe, and earn yourself some wins.

WHO’S SUS

Channel your inner liar and manipulator in this simple Mafia-esque game! In Who’s Sus?, you play with up to six people—one of which is an Impostor who does not know the word given to everybody else. The Impostor only has the category given to everyone else (for example, countries).

The Interrogation then starts, where people reveal clues about the word, showing that they know what it is. You then discuss who you think the Impostor is based on the clues given. You can have up to four rounds of Interrogation. The Impostor has to keep up and not get discovered as the Impostor, or else they would be voted out and lose the game. Point your fingers wisely!

ESCAPE ROOM

Like in an escape room IRL, you have to have your wits about you. Work together with up to four other teammates to solve puzzles and escape 24 rooms in Escape Room. From circus clown rooms to galleries, cemeteries to children’s bedrooms, find your way out of each level and make those gears in your head turn so you can come out the other side of the room a winner.

HIDE OR DIE

In Hide or Die, you play either as a hider who morphs into different objects or furniture in order to blend in with your surroundings and avoid being caught, or as a seeker who tries to find these out-of-place or moving objects. If you get caught, you turn into a seeker and try to catch the remaining hiders. It’s quick, fun, and competitive—perfect for blowing off some steam.

SQUID GAME

@robloxrev 😳😳#roblox #squidgame #squidgamenetflix #foryou ♬ original sound – rev

Like in the actual Squid Games, last one standing wins in this Roblox game. Individual players enter the game and try their hands at different Squid Game levels, such as Red Light, Green Light and the Dalgona candy challenge.

TRIVIA! JEOPARDY

Live out your dreams of being a contestant on a game show with this Jeopardy!-style trivia experience. Choose from the categories, which includes Roblox trivia and general pop culture trivia, choose what amount of money you’d like to earn, and answer as fast as you can to earn as much cash as you can.

BOAT RIDE INTO A BETTER LIFE

@iitsjustpinkk HOW THOUGH #roblox #boatrideintoabetterlife ♬ original sound iitsjustpinkk

A game of Boat Ride Into A Better Life with your friends will for sure have tons of screaming and laughing. It’s pretty simple—by yourself, or with up to five friends, get into a boat and row your way through the levels, trying not to fall off the side or capsize and drown. You have to have control and coordination, and it takes some practice, but it’s a fun time.

SABRINA CARPENTER VISUAL STYLE

Decoding The Visual Storytelling In Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short ‘n Sweet” Era

line
That's that me... you know the rest.

Aside from making music that slaps, Sabrina Carpenter is also a bit of a genius when it comes to her creative direction and visual identity.

Related: 4 Things We’re Obsessing Over in Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” Music Video

She looks and sings like an angel, sizzles on stage, writes lyrics like a modern Shakespeare (if he was short and sweet), and is on a world tour. She’s Sabrina Carpenter, blonde polly pocket princess extraordinaire! Aside from her discography (and she’s been making hits for years), Sabrina has endeared herself to many with the way she knows how to present herself.

Any great era isn’t just about the music, it’s also in the vibes, looks, and imagery. And it’s a note Sabrina took to heart with her Short ‘n Sweet era. The imagery and visual styling of this era is highkey one of the best of any pop girl this year. It’s played a key role in why Sabrina has been as successful as she is. So, we’re getting into the visual storytelling of this sassy one-of-a-kind era.

Sabrina Carpenter said that the theme of Short ‘n Sweet is as follows: “It was not because I’m vertically challenged. It was really like I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had and they affected me the most.”

In the vein of The Tortured Poets Department, Sabrina Carpenter wrote an album on her situation instead of her current relationship. Understandable! Sometimes, short relationships leave deeper scars than longer or more stable ones – especially when they end abruptly or on bad terms. You can hear the cynicism about relationships in Slim Pickins and Dumb and Poetic.

With the central theme out of the way, let’s move onto the symbols and imagery of this era. Note: All of the imagery in her music videos is up to interpretation, but I’ll be making this analysis through the lens of her lyrics, personal life, and online discourse around her.

LIPSTICK KISS

SABRINA CARPENTER LIPSTICK KISS

INSTAGRAM/SABRINACARPENTER

The lipstick kiss that features prominently on the album cover and her performances, whether on tour or on the 2024 VMAs stage, is pretty straightforward. It’s a nod to Sabrina’s flirty and sensual onstage persona and her penchant for all things feminine and girly.

It also invites the viewer to wonder how it got there on her back. (Jenna Ortega perhaps? Wishful thinking? One can only speculate). Note that the lipstick kiss is also a reference to a photo posted by French model Tiffany Collier in February of 2018, taken by photographer Bruno Juminer.

ESPRESSO

That’s that me espresso. Espresso is energy, it’s addictive, and you want to drink it every day. The caffeinated drink may represent the addictive nature of her music, as well as the omnipresence of her song on morning playlists.

Sabrina Carpenter said that the song Espresso is about “femininity as a superpower” in a world that doesn’t always see it that way. And as the song that took over the world earlier this summer, it’s definitely super!

The coffee motif also features on her tour, as Sabrina holds up a smoking cup of coffee while waking up her backup dancers during the encore as she performs the hit song. Everyone loves a good cup of coffee, and the coffee-inspired song catapulted Sabrina to worldwide fame. Here’s to more “me espresso!”

HEARTS

SABRINA CARPENTER HEARTS

INSTAGRAM/SABRINACARPENTER

Continuing with the flirty and coquettish theme, Sabrina features plenty of hearts in the visual theming of Short ‘n Sweet, and has been using it as a main motif since the emails I can’t send era. They even feature in lyrics on the album, such as “I’m sweet like an angel, drawing hearts ‘round our names” on Good Graces.

Sabrina has gone viral for her heart-shaped corsets and sweetheart tops, which fits considering that she sings with her heart sometimes literally on her sleeve. Her songs are primarily about love – whether that’s chasing love, being loved, wanting to be loved, or wanting to be adored, held, and explored.

The hearts are a physical manifestation of this, in a beautiful impressionist way that happens to make amazing outfits. You can’t live without it, so it’s the most powerful drug of all, and even the gods cower before it – love and lust. Her iconic heart-shaped corsets, tops, and outfits could also be a nod to the goddess of love Aphrodite’s domain. (We think the goddess would love her songs)

In the emails I can’t send era, the heart with lights represented her optimism about love – which was crushed like glass during the music video Because I Liked a Boy. Then they turned on again. And now Sabrina’s hearts are taking over the world in Short ‘n Sweet. Sabrina’s brand of unapologetically fun and soaring pop music like in Juno and Good Graces is sure to make any heart dance.

HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR

SABRINA CARPENTER HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR

INSTAGRAM/SABRINACARPENTER

Vintage fashion, diamonds, headscarves, big sunglasses and other vintage (and retro) accessories feature prominently in Sabrina’s music videos. Her embrace of old fashions is in sharp contrast to her wonderfully modern views and unapologetic femininity.

She doesn’t stay quiet about things people believe women should be silent about, she is sex-positive, she says what’s on her mind without fear, her humor is dry and devastatingly witty, and she defies norms with ease. While she wears clothing from the 50s and draws from their glamour, her attitude is anything but which makes for a striking contrast.

Sabrina has notoriously dry humor, rather than being the energetic, ditzy blonde that people expect. Some would say that what the Tradwives do on TikTok embrace both the fashion and the mindset, which is a topic that deserves its own article. In a world where femininity is unfairly judged, policed, restricted, and even banned – she isn’t afraid to be herself.

FUN SLEEPOVER VIBES

SABRINA CARPENTER SLEEPOVER

INSTAGRAM/SABRINACARPENTER

A playful reminder that Sabrina Carpenter is primarily for the girls! Yes, she performs and dances in lingerie and lace- but it’s not for the male gaze. Sabrina’s lowkey superpwoer is that she is good at embracing her sexuality and being a bit more playful with her styling choices, but in a way that isn’t meant for the satisfaction of men or their attention.

It’s pink, fun, and it’s for anyone who’s ever been looked down or insulted for being fun, frilly, and feminine. In fact, her songs are known for singing right past the male addressee to a female confidante, as explained in the article The ‘Espresso’ theory of Gender Relations from The Atlantic. Like Espresso’s knowing tongue-in-cheek performance of femininity that’s like “Girls, watch me finesse this man, then let’s go shopping!” The fact that it’s a running joke that most of the men in Sabrina’s music videos die while the women survive is a nod to this as well.

In Slim Pickins, she laments to all the girls who can’t find the one since “all the good ones are diseased or taken, I’ll just keep on moaning and bitching.” She hilariously and relatably slides from “a boy who’s jacked and kind” to “a boy who’s nice and breathes.”

Her tours are also known for being safe spaces for her fans, whether she’s asking them about their love lives and commenting on them, doling out advice, or creating a cozy atmosphere while singing songs from Mamma Mia. She also flipped the “un-girls’ girl” message of Taste by making the two girls fighting over a guy turn on the guy who turned them against each other. Sabrina’s a real girl’s girl, and we love that for her.

As Sabrina began this new era of hers, the mission was clear. She is now more able to control her image, songs, and brand. She picked herself up and learned to use the media’s portrayal of her to her advantage to give us a blonde starlet persona juxtaposed with her sharp writing, and her unique brand of humor. All this to say, Sabrina did that for a chapter of her career to remember.
